    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

If, and it's a big if, Liverpool do make the extra man advantage count and emerge triumphant, they'll go level on points with fourth-placed Chelsea.

But Arne Slot's side have work to do. Spurs are not making this easy for them.

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

Djed Spence against Hugo Ekitike deep inside the Spurs half.

Spence emerges the clear winner of that particular duel.

A sudden Liverpool burst into the Spurs box.

Florian Wirtz to Milos Kerkez whose cut-back lands straight at the feet of a Spurs player.

  4. Big opportunity for Isakpublished at 18:38 GMT 20 December 2025

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

    Aadam Patel
BBC Sport at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

It's an enforced change given Conor Bradley's knock but this is a huge opportunity now for Alexander Isak after a rather underwhelming start to his Liverpool career.

  5. Postpublished at 47 mins

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

Liverpool are dominating all the possession in the opening stages of the second half. Tottenham are camped inside their own half.

  6. KICK-OFFpublished at 46 mins

Are Liverpool about to send on Alexander Isak?

He's been put through a vigorous workout on the pitch at half-time.

  8. 'Simons got it completely wrong'published at 18:34 GMT 20 December 2025

    HT: Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

    Jamie Redknapp
Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder on Sky Sports

    On the Simons red card:

I just don't know what he's thinking. He's done something so ridiculous. Maybe he's trying to add intensity to the game and trying to show aggression but he's just got it completely wrong.

Not the greatest game to watch at the moment. Liverpool need to take advantage of the extra man in the 2nd half

    Peter, Swindon

Arne Slot must be positive with his tactics now to capitalise on the extra man. Nothing less than three points is good enough today.

  10. 'A lot worse in slow motion'published at 18:31 GMT 20 December 2025

    HT: Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

    Daniel Sturridge
Former Liverpool striker on Sky Sports

    On the Simons red card:

It does look a lot worse in slow motion. I've been that guy who's trying to impact the game, defending is not your high skillset and you are trying to barge into someone, do something, and he's got it wrong.

Easy red card. It was late, nasty, high and the studs were up. The ball was 10 feet away when he catches him.

  12. 'Questions need to be asked of Simons'published at 18:29 GMT 20 December 2025

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

    Andy Reid
Former Nottingham Forest midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

I think Xavi Simons has some questions to answer at half time. He's right down the back of Virgil van Dijk, it's silly from him and sums up his Tottenham career so far. Questions need to be asked of his temperament.

  13. 'Liverpool need to revert and bring on attackers'published at 18:27 GMT 20 December 2025

    HT: Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

    Gary Neville
Former Manchester United defender on Sky Sports

It's a game where both teams have set up to be solid, not concede goals and make it difficult for one another.

For Liverpool now I think they should revert back to what Slot would have done a few months ago. Bring on a few more attackers and put the pressure on, because this game needs it.

This remote forensic examination after the event in super slow motion has to stop. Ruined the game. Doesn’t matter about the ‘letter of the law’. It’s about the flow and entertainment of the game, which has now gone.

    Jamie, Lewes

Not even force on that challenge for serious foul play. It hurts but it’s not seriously injuring anyone. Yellow is fine. Slow motion + overly officious VAR and refs mean that’s a red card unfortunately. They should be doing more to keep 11 on the pitch.

  15. Simons only one to blamepublished at 18:25 GMT 20 December 2025

    HT: Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

    Aadam Patel
BBC Sport at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

No surprise to see the referee as the target of the fury from the Tottenham support but Xavi Simons is the only one to blame. It was a stupid challenge.

It'll be interesting to see what Arne Slot does now because Liverpool will be disappointed if they don't take the three points from here.

It's been a good game, with some good tempo and rotations, my only disappointment is there hasn't been great chances or shots on goal.

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

    Aadam Patel
BBC Sport at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Spurs have responded well to the red card. The fans want a penalty and the referee John Brooks is getting booed by the home support. It's not a penalty though. Djed Spence did brilliantly to carry the ball but he ran into Conor Bradley.

  20. 'Spence overran the ball'published at 18:19 GMT 20 December 2025

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

    Andy Reid
Former Nottingham Forest midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

I think Djed Spence had overran the ball and was never going to get on the end of it. A good break from Spence, used his pace, he's lightning quick.
