  4. 'We were in the game right to the end'published at 22:49 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Everton 0-1 Arsenal

    Everton

Everton boss David Moyes, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "I might get fed up saying it every week because winnings the thing you really need to do in football. You can play a well as you like and do good things but we need to get some goals. We've not had goals in the last two games, which is the bit that's been missing really.

"We done a lot of things, the players effort, the spirit. Everything you'd want them to do they did tonight. It was just a bit of quality or trying to hurt Arsenal a bit more. Arsenal have given up very few chances and we just didn't get enough opportunities to get enough chances tonight.

"I thought we started the game well. I don't think we were under a great deal of pressure until the penalty kick. I think after the penalty kick we were rocked a little bit. I thought prior to it we started the game better than Arsenal. I think the second half we had to make the game more open, we had to be more committed than we'd been. We tried to get forward a bit more and quicker but it also allowed Arsenal to have one or two brilliant passing moves. I thought we stuck at it, never gave in, we were always in the game right to the end. Credit to the players."

On if Jake O'Brien instantly regretted the handball: "Well, he should because I don't think any player now knows that putting your hand above your head is liable to be a penalty kick. So I've not got anything for him which is positive. I'm thinking, why did you do it for? He raises his arms. He shouldn't raise his arms."

On the penalty call that didn't go his side's way in the second half :"I think they said it was insignificant contact. Well, we'll have to see a few others and see if they're right. Sometimes you need some decisions to go for you. Tonight the decisions didn't go."

  5. 'They come up with new words for every decision'published at 22:46 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Everton 0-1 Arsenal

    Everton

Everton boss David Moyes, speaking to Sky Sports: “We were competitive, the spirit we showed for long periods in the game. We didn’t quite have the quality to get a goal but overall I thought we did a good job against Arsenal. We tried to make it a tough game and I think it was for them.

“I didn’t think Arsenal gave us too many problems before the penalty kick. If anything we started better than Arsenal. But it was a poor decision by Jake O'Brien to raise his arms which made it difficult. I think that was the first corner of the game.

“These things happen and players don’t mean to do it but you shouldn’t be sticking your arms up there that’s for sure."

On his discussion with the referee: “I’d like to [tell you] but I’d probably be fined. You need to find a way so we can talk about the referees or don’t bother asking me.”

"A lot of things didn’t quite suit and go our way. There were quite a few people going down and the referee was blowing up for them. It’s a different football club here. We play tough and we expect the referee’s to do the same.

"They come up with new words for every decision don’t they."

  6. 'That’s why they are top of the league'published at 22:43 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Everton 0-1 Arsenal

    Everton

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, speaking to Sky Sports: "We didn’t give away many chances and we defended really well...we had to suffer at times. We weren’t clinical and didn’t hurt them as much. I don’t think David Raya really had a save to make. Small margins and that’s why they are top of the league. They have been resilient at the back and hard to break down. They got a penalty and scored, the effort and application we put in was quality.

“We are a good side. Over the last few years Everton are hard to play against. We don’t concede too many goals and that’s always the case when you put an Everton shirt on. Everyone knows when they come that they are going to have a tough game.

"You’ll have games where you create loads of chances and games where you have one or two and have to be clinical but Arsenal don’t give many opportunities away. Look at their record, eight or nine clean sheets."

  7. 'Every team brings different situations'published at 22:40 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Everton 0-1 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “Very happy obviously it is a really tough place to come. I must say, what a stadium, they have built. It was incredible to witness the atmosphere.

“We knew it would be a really tough match. In the second half we should have scored a second or third goal to be more relaxed. We didn’t do that and against this type of team it can be tense.

“Every team brings different situations. They used the keeper to play long balls and the game becomes more chaotic and stretched and you have to dominate that game, if not it is very difficult and we managed to do it.

"We know how long it is going to be and how difficult it is going to be so we take it game by game."

On the penalty: “I saw some communication there. They have to feel who the best penalty taker is. In that moment they decided Viktor [Gyokeres], he scored. Great decision."

  8. 'Calvert-Lewin has to show consistency over whole season'published at 22:37 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Leeds United

Leeds boss Daniel Farke speaking to BBC Sport: "A great night for us, to see the scoreline and most importantly the three points. The best away team in the Premier League and we knew we needed a special plan and the lads have delivered, top class."

On making tactical changes since the Manchester City match: "We had a really good start to the season but we were many games unlucky not to get results from the performance.

"On this level we have to be flexible, we know we don't have the best individual quality, so sometimes you have to mirror the opposition and change formation within the game. It's complex when you don't have the best individual quality then you need to find a plan and the lads are doing really well. We are in a good position, but with 19 points we won't achieve our goal, we have to keep going."

On Dominic Calvert-Lewin: "He is in great form, I spoke highly about him and we are blessed and fortunate that we have him.

"He has shown this during his career when he is fit but to label him a top class player for Leeds United, he doesn't have to show this for a couple of weeks or months, he has to show it over the whole course of the season. Right now it is too soon, he has to keep going."

On Ethan Ampadu: "He definitely has no striker instincts, believe me, I see him every day in training. But about him we can sing his praises, he has for such a long time delivered on a daily basis, a weekly basis.

"He has developed into a leader and a top player. One of our key players, if not the most important player, he is my captain. He is in the heart of the game, he is fantastic."

  9. 'We have to enjoy winning'published at 22:35 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Everton 0-1 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta speaking to Sky Sports: "Very happy to win here. It's a really difficult place to come. I think it is very organised. By the way, [I want to] take the opportunity to say what a beautiful stadium they've built., I had chills with the beauty of it, so congratulations.

"And the first half we had some moments where we were very dominant without really creating much. We scored the goal. And the second half we had three big open chances that if you want to be more relaxed at the end you have to take those chances in the Premier League.

"Those moments that you have to be more clinical to have bigger margins"

On Viktor Gyokeres taking the penalty: "That's what I hoped and they have to take initiative on the pitch. They decide that Viktor is the best taker and he scored, so what a great decision.

"You need to enjoy the process of winning and that's going to be hard moments, difficult moments, great moments., That's all part of that intention and how close we are winning and that's why we have to enjoy and take it game by game."

On Man City winning before them: "We are not looking at that. I know you guys do. The only thing we can control is our own performance and results and we know how long it's going to be and how tough is this league. That's it. Enjoy every day. Do your best and see what we're going to get."

  10. 'We have to learn quickly'published at 22:32 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi speaking to Sky Sports: "Everyone is disappointed, but it is definitely deserved. Leeds were the better side, they won every duel, every second ball.

"They won every first contact, every second contact and in the Premier League or in any football game, that will cost you.

"They won every duel, they wanted it more, they were more physical, credit to them. We need to learn from it.

"We will play a team [Arsenal] that is better than these guys at set pieces, so if we can do that better and contain them hopefully in our low block and spring a counter-attack then it will be good for us. But again, it is another tough game so we have to learn quickly and move on."

On whether the volume of games is having a negative impact: "Nope, I don't think you guys should give us an excuse because we aren't giving ourselves an excuse. We'll recover quickly and go again."

  11. 'We had the wrong mindset today'published at 22:30 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner speaking to BBC Sport: "We couldn't match their physicality today. Conceding four set play goals is embarrassing.

"They had almost no chance from open play but every set play was dangerous. It is the fourth game in the last week that we are losing because we are conceding goals from set plays. We were not good enough, same at the front. We fully deserved to lose.

    "No, [fatigue is] no excuse.

"I think we had the wrong mindset today. Maybe I spoke too much about tactics before the game against the 3-5-2 and not enough about the basics, because we lost every second ball. It was the basics. They were much better than we were today. You have to do the basics first, then you can talk about tactics.

"Today everybody should be disappointed and think what they can do better, I always start with myself. I will find the right answer and let the players know tomorrow."

  12. 'We're happy with Calvert-Lewin - but he must keep going'published at 22:28 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Leeds United

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke speaking to Sky Sports: "We have played the best away team in the league. I was always nervous until the last second. It's football, sometimes strange things happen. Crystal palace are so difficult to play against but in the end it was so, so enjoyable for us.

"Sometimes you need a bit of luck but we know set-pieces are also a strength of ours. We missed a few chances so I would perhaps want a few more, and the clean sheet would have been nice.

"I'm not married to base formations. It is important that you are flexible, bring your principles to the pitch, and adapt to the strengths of your opponent. We have scored many goals in recent weeks and we want to continue in this way."

On striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin: "I have made my feelings clear that he is one of the best English strikers in this league. Quality players have to show consistency and play an outstanding season. The season is not finished, he wants to score many more goals. We are all happy we have him with us but he has to keep going."

  13. 'Belief in myself never changed'published at 22:26 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Leeds United

Leeds United striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin speaking to Sky Sports: "It was a solid home performance. We were direct with the way that we played and kept the ball in good moments.

"In the six yard box is where I need to be. When you're in a good moment the ball starts dropping for you and that's where I'm at.

"The belief stays the same. The belief I have in myself hasn't changed. I want to give my best for the team and continue playing well.

"I enjoy having bodies around me. It can be a lonely role up there on your own. With bodies around you, you can link play and I think that's why I've had success recently."

On whether he is targeting an England call-up: "I don't get carried away. My job remains the same whether I'm scoring or not scoring. I work hard, lead the line for my team and the rest takes care of itself.

"It's a big result for us. We didn't want to undo our good work over recent weeks. We're taking it game by game and focusing on what we control."

  15. 'Honestly, it's embarrassing'published at 22:22 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner speaking to Sky Sports: "Very disappointing performance today. Couldn't defend set plays, honestly it's embarrassing. Couldn't match their physicality today. Today is the first game [this season] we fully deserved to lose.

"In three days we have a chance at the Emirates, against the team that is the best maybe at set plays to do it better.

"They played man-to-man and we lost every single duel. We won one duel and we get the penalty. When you lose all the duels, it's the basics, we didn't show the basics. We thought we could pass the ball but we had no chance in the duels and then you lose every single game."

On whether the volume of fixtures is having an impact: "No."

  16. 'It was important to score the penalty'published at 22:18 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Everton 0-1 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal goalscorer Viktor Gyokeres speaking to Sky Sports on taking the penalty: "It's a few that can take it and this time it was me that took it. It was important to score that one. It was nice.

"You always want to score goals. That's the main target every game for attacking players. That's what we want to do. Today we could've scored a few more but the most important is we won the game.

"I think I try to do my best always on the pitch and of course you have to get to know the system and how we play and get to know the role and adapt to that. We're playing quite well. We're in a good position in the league and Champions League, so carry on like this."

  17. Postpublished at 22:15 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Everton 0-1 Arsenal

Arsenal have kept a clean sheet in nine of their 17 games, more than any other side in the Premier League this season.

They attempted 652 passes in this game, their highest total in a single match in the Premier League this season.

  18. 'We're not watching what other teams are doing'published at 22:13 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Everton 0-1 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka speaking to Sky Sports: "They made it really tough. Also on us to not kill the game in certain moments. Credit to them, it's always tough coming here. We're just happy to get the win in the end.

"I think they have a good structure and the way that they play with the fans, the players are so passionate, so they give everything. That made it hard for us. We had our chances and we could've killed the game earlier."

On their emotions after playing after Man City won and went top: "There's not really any emotions in it. We take the emotions out. We just know we focus on our job this week, after last week we focus on coming here and winning. We did that today. We're back on top of the table but we're not watching City too much, or the other teams. We're in control now. We know if we win every week we'll stay there."

  19. 'Business-like from Arsenal'published at 22:07 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Everton 0-1 Arsenal

    Daniel Sturridge
Former Liverpool striker on Sky Sports

They fought their socks off. Business-like performance, though. We talk about how they went about their business, made good passes, good decision.

I think they'll go home buzzing with their overall team performance. The first half they were OK, the second half they kept knocking. In the end you go back top of the league with a performance like that and the manager will be pleased.

  20. 'Caps off a marvellous performance'published at 22:05 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Leeds 4-1 Crystal Palace

    Lee Hendrie
Former Aston Villa midfielder on Sky Sports

It's a well-executed free kick. Henderson leaves an awful lot of spacee for Stach to put it, and doesn't he just. Caps off a marvellous performance.
