  1. 'This isn't the be all and end all of Villa's season'published at 22:42 GMT 30 December 2025

    FT: Arsenal 4-1 Aston Villa

    Ellen White
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I don't think this is a game that Villa need to focus on too much. Yes it would have been amazing if they could have got something because they would have been even more in the conversation, but they need to focus on where they are, in the Champions League spots, playing in Europe as well. This isn't the be all and end all of their season.

  2. 'I'm so happy to be back'published at 22:41 GMT 30 December 2025

    FT: Arsenal 4-1 Aston Villa

    Arsenal

Arsenal goalscorer Gabriel Magalhaes, speaking to Sky Sports: "First I was to say thanks God because it was difficult days for me. I always want to help the team. I'm so happy to be back and I think today was a brilliant day for everyone, how we work together. I think we need to keep going. We are so happy.

"It's difficult to play against them. They want to delay the game but we know we play at home and the second half we're just pushing. We score the first goal and after the team was unbelievable."

  3. 'We have to win when we play at home'published at 22:40 GMT 30 December 2025

    FT: Man Utd 1-1 Wolves

    Manchester United

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez speaking to Sky Sports: "Really disappointed. We can't come here at home and draw this game. We have to win when we play at home. The opponent has to suffer and we didn't get the three points. Very frustrating. The team gave everything. Just for a few moments, we conceded in the last moment of the first half, that can happen. We can deserve that, it's our responsibility.

"We played well with the ball in the first half but then we dropped too much, couldn't press their centre backs. They were comfortable with the ball and they started moving round and creating spaces. Wolves don't deserve the place they are, it's a strong team. We respect them. We have to take more risks.

"The lads are very disappointed, we expect better. We have to take it and accept it and go for the next one."

  4. 'Everyone is contributing'published at 22:39 GMT 30 December 2025

    Dion Dublin
Former Aston Villa and Man Utd striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

Arsenal doing what they did to Villa tonight tells you where they are. They had to get the job done and they did it. They have the players to do it, Arteta will play the right formation. It's all going right for them because everyone is contributing; the manager, the players, the staff.

  5. 'Our mentality is growing with each game'published at 22:39 GMT 30 December 2025

    FT: Arsenal 4-1 Aston Villa

    Arsenal

Arsenal goalscorer Gabriel Jesus, speaking to Sky Sports: "I think it was amazing. It's always hard to play against them. They have brilliant players. They come here all the time, they hurt us. And it was clear early in the game they were trying to delay the game. Everyone could see that. The mentality of the team is really, really grow and each game is growing even more and I think we are winning today because of the mentality."

On Gabriel returning: "I said after the last game when they asked me about him, the moment he stepped on the pitch you could see the difference of our backline. The way we defend. He loves to defend the way I love to attack and he loves to score goals as well."

  6. 'Hopefully this win will relax us'published at 22:38 GMT 30 December 2025

    FT: Burnley 1-3 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC MOTD: "We needed to win because we knew we were under pressure. I thought the lads responded really well, it was a really fast start. We scored some really good goals and then, us being us at this present time, we made it difficult for ourselves. The second half was nervy to a point. There were a couple of moments where Nick (Pope) made massive saves for us. But overall I thought we showed real character and resilience in the second half to get over the line.

"Burnley have got some great players and they scored a great goal, it was an unbelievable finish. That obviously dented us but full credit to the players for the character that we showed in the second half.

"I hope it relaxes us slightly - not in a negative way but in a positive way. We want to play fluent, attacking football which is really good to watch. But you can only really do that when you are in a good mental place and relaxed. Hopefully that settles us down after a difficult period."

On Yoane Wissa's first Premier League start for the club: "He led the line really well with sharp movement. Also moving in behind and he knows where the goal is - that was a typical Yoane Wissa goal. He is in the right place at the right time and it was an important moment for us."

  7. More unwanted records for Wolvespublished at 22:36 GMT 30 December 2025

    FT: Man Utd 1-1 Wolves

    • Wolves have failed to win in their last 23 games in the Premier League, their longest winless streak in the competition.
    • Wolves are the first Premier League side to go 23 matches without a victory since Derby County in the 2007-08 campaign (32). The Rams ended the season with an all-time low 11 points but had four more points after 19 games (7) than Wolves do currently (3).
    • Wolves picked up 29 points in 38 Premier League games in 2025, a points per game ratio of just 0.76. It's the worst ratio by a team in a full year of Premier League football since Huddersfield Town in 2018 (23 in 37 games, 0.62).
    • Wolves are only the second side in top-flight history to go 19 matches from the start of a season without winning, along with Bolton in 1902-03. They are the first in any of England's top four divisions since Macclesfield Town in League Two in 2006-07.

Shall we put the draw with Wolves into perspective? They’ve pushed Liverpool and Arsenal very close in recent weeks. Man Utd had a very weakened squad. Not the best performance from the Red Devils, but it’s ridiculous to call for Amorim’s head over that result given the context.

  10. 'Lack of connection'published at 22:34 GMT 30 December 2025

    FT: Man Utd 1-1 Wolves

    Manchester United

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim speaking to Sky Sports:

"We struggled in all the game. We had a lack of creation but we already knew it would be a different game to Newcastle. We had a different energy during the game. Looking at the 90 minutes we had our chances but the fluidity offensively wasn't there. There is a lack of connections at the moment.

"Completely different game to the last one. We had more men behind the ball, when you have that you have to work harder to create more, have imagination and play the game in a different way. We lacked that today.

"They tried. We didn't play well. When you don't play well with the ball you struggle without it. We need to recover and go to the next one."

On bringing Joshua Zirkzee off: "We were running around trying to get hold of the ball. We were struggling with their midfielders, and sometimes you can attack better with less strikers. We played with three strikers and sometimes that's not the best thing to attack well.

"This game is over, you can not change the result of this one but you can move on and go to the next one."

  12. 'The first half was confusing'published at 22:33 GMT 30 December 2025

    FT: West Ham 2-2 Brighton

    West Ham United

West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo to BBC Match of the Day: "A lot of things happening in the game, the first half was confusing for the players and everyone in the stadium.

"First half was better, we contained, dominated, created a lot of chances. Second half we started well, controlling well with good combinations, but after conceding we went through some troubles, especially when Brighton brought on Mitoma and Rutter, fresh players with such quality.

"After that we were trying to hold on with the young boys. I'm really pleased with what they gave to the team and squad, but we didn't have many situations from which we could counter-attack from. Overall it was an intense game, both teams went to their limits.

"The referees must speak with the players, explain to them what is contact, which is excessive, which is foul, because we se so many things in the box now it can be confusing. Sometimes they whistle, sometimes they ignore it.

On the performance of Ollie Scarles after his mistake against Fulham on Saturday: "It's fantastic to bounce back really well, he knows he has our support and confidence. I'm delighted the fans appreciated it because mistakes are part of the game."

It was frightening from Arsenal but only in the second half. In the first half it was slow and it was flat, but in the second it was frightening and they got their mojo.

  17. 'I'm grabbing this game by the scruff of the neck'published at 22:29 GMT 30 December 2025

    FT: Arsenal 4-1 Aston Villa

    Clinton Morrison
Former Premier League striker on BBC Radio 5 Live at Emirates Stadium

The difference was Odegaard. In the second half he took over the game and basically said: "This is our place, I'm grabbing this game by the scruff of the neck." And he started to get into pockets.

I do think that Onana going off was a huge blow for Villa because in that first half there was no space for Odegaard to get on the ball, and as soon as he went off Odegaard came into his own.

  18. 'United have got to look at themselves'published at 22:28 GMT 30 December 2025

    FT: Man Utd 1-1 Wolves

    Statman Dave
Fantasy 606's football analyst and FPL expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

When you look at the expected goals, Manchester United created an xG of 0.81, Wolves had 1.02. Not a great game by those numbers but Wolves created a better quality of chance throughout the game.

United have got to look at themselves. The new system does not look right to me still. They looked better with a three at the back.

  19. 'We still need to learn to kill games'published at 22:27 GMT 30 December 2025

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Bournemouth

    Chelsea

Chelsea assistant coach Willy Caballero speaking to Sky Sports: "Enzo [Maresca] isn't feeling well. He didn't feel well the last two days but still made training and made the game today. I took his position just to clarify that he isn't feeling well enough to do the rest of the stuff that the manager has to do, so I'm here instead."

On the performance: "It was a crazy first half. We turned the score around but then immediately conceded a goal, so that's something we need to improve and correct immediately. The players showed up and created the build-up and the open play was on point. It was perfect, we created chances and had chances in the second half too.

"Unfortunately we couldn't win the game and it feels a little bit disappointing. We did better things than Bournemouth to get the three points, but we only have one point because we conceded two goals today. The final product was just missing because we arrived in the box and got many crosses off.

"We are improving in certain areas but we still need to learn to kill games and maintain the score when we are winning. We put in a lot of effort to go up 2-1 but we couldn't manage things to take three points. It is always frustrating to concede from set pieces but it is part of the game. When you concede two in the same game though, it is tough."
