A new midfield for Saints to figure out.

Great first half from Saints, but as we know we always have a poor second half, so am cautiously pessimistic!

  5. 'Strong half from the Saints'published at 13:33 GMT 31 January

    HT: Stoke 0-1 Southampton

    Jo Tessem
Ex-Southampton midfielder on BBC Radio Solent

It was very good and strong half from the Saints.

I think we have got the tempo right with the pace on the ball, and didn't let Stoke put nay pressure on us and put us into difficult positions.

Southampton ran the game in the first half with tempo, and good plays and got high and wide with the wingers.

We have made the Stoke players run about and take all the energy away from them.

Stoke have got good players so we need to continue defending well going forward.

  6. Tough start for Smitpublished at 13:32 GMT 31 January

    HT: Stoke 0-1 Southampton

Milan Smit touch mapImage source, Opta

Tough first half of Championship football for 22-year-old Dutch forward Milan Smit.

The Go Ahead Eagles loanee has had the fewest touches of anyone on the pitch, and it's not even close.

He's worked tirelessly across the pitch but a looping header back into the middle from a high corner at the back post was his only touch near the goal.

If Wrexham can’t win at Sheffield Wednesday then quite honestly they don’t deserve even a shot at the play-offs.

  8. 'Andy King looked furious'published at 13:27 GMT 31 January

    HT: Leicester 0-2 Charlton

    Matt Piper
Former Foxes winger on BBC Radio Leicester

Andy King looked furious on the sideline.

I think he would be well within his rights at half-time to go in their and hold some players to account, kick a few bottles about while he is at it.

Leicester have shown no passion or aggression in this game.

I have heard more noise in the lockdown games we did, and I don't expect anything from the crowd with this performance.

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:27 GMT 31 January

Sonny Carey screams in celebrationImage source, Shutterstock

A half full of talking points comes to an end and it's very much advantage Charlton over 10-man Leicester.

Caleb Okoli's straight red card for the Foxes after pulling down Miles Leaburn when he was clean through set the tone.

Sonny Carey and Lyndon Dykes have both taken their goals very well for the Addicks.

How can one ref be so good in the Premier League, in Farai Hallam, on his debut but the second he drops back into the Championship, he becomes bang average? Missed about three big calls so far, two against Saints.

    Seb, Southampton

Blatant penalty denied by over zealous officiating, not only was a leg dangled out but the arm across the mid rift pulled Azaz back.

  11. Postpublished at 13:23 GMT 31 January

    Leicester 0-2 Charlton

Charlton have failed to win any of their past nine away league matches (D3 L6) but are looking good here. Two up and the extra player to boot.

    Not a bad half.

  12. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:20 GMT 31 January

    Sheff Wed 0-0 Wrexham

Liam Cooper of Sheffield Wednesday battles with Sam Smith of WrexhamImage source, Shutterstock

Half-time and we remain goalless at Hillsborough.

A half full of endeavour but low on goalmouth chances in truth.

Jerry Yates, who only signed for the club less than 24 hours ago, went closest for the home side when he prodded a presentable opportunity over the bar from inside the box.

Wrexham have dominated the ball, perhaps unsurprisingly given their current form, but have not created many opportunities against a compact Wednesday defence with Issa Kabore going closest for the Welsh side when his left-footed snapshot was comfortably saved by Murphy Cooper.

  13. goal

GOAL: Leicester 0-2 Charltonpublished at 13:20 GMT 31 January

    Lyndon Dykes (45+4 mins)

Lyndon Dykes celebrates in front of the Charlton fansImage source, Shutterstock

Double trouble for Leicester. Big goal for Charlton and what a goal it is.

Luke Chambers fizzes a cross to the back post and Lyndon Dykes does brilliantly at full stretch and on the slide to divert it back across goal and into the far corner from about seven yards out.

  14. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:20 GMT 31 January

    Stoke 0-1 Southampton

Southampton head coach Tonda Eckert claps his teamImage source, Shutterstock

So far, so good for Tonda Eckert as Southampton's travel sickness is showing signs of clearing up.

They have gone six games without a win on their travels but Saints have bossed much of the half and look confident in attack.

The only goal was all class, Taylor Harwood-Bellis with a dreamy through-ball, Tom Fellows whipping in a low cross and Finn Azaz could make no mistake from close-range on 10 minutes.

Mark Robins has work to do otherwise Stoke will be five without a win at home in the league.

  15. CLOSE!published at 13:20 GMT 31 January

    Stoke 0-1 Southampton

Bae Junho has the chance to equalise with the final kick of the half as Eric Bocat's cross from the left is flapped at by Daniel Peretz, dropping to the Korean near the penalty spot, but he can only prod a tame first-time effort wide of the post.

  16. Postpublished at 13:20 GMT 31 January

    Sheff Wed 0-0 Wrexham

Josh Windass takes a pot shot from range but it is well blocked by a Wednesday defender.

The loose ball flies up into the air and Wednesday keeper Murphy Cooper does well to punch the ball away from the head of Wrexham's Sam Smith, who was lurking menacingly.

Moments later, Callum Doyle stands the ball up to Ben Sheaf but his volley from an angle is just over the crossbar. Difficult chance for the Wrexham midfielder.

  17. GREAT SAVE!published at 13:19 GMT 31 January

    Leicester 0-1 Charlton

Leicester keeper Jakub Stolarczyk does well to save with his outstretched left boot from Luke Chambers' powerful low drive towards the far corner from the angle.

  18. Postpublished at 13:18 GMT 31 January

    Stoke 0-1 Southampton

All gone very quiet at the Bet365 in the five or so minutes before the break.

it may be the sound of reality setting in for Stoke after a pretty positive first half of the season.

Expecting some grumbles at the whistle. They are on their way to five winless at home in the league.

  19. INJURY TIMEpublished at 13:17 GMT 31 January

    Leicester 0-1 Charlton

There will be 10 added minutes at the end of the half. Not all too surprising as we've had a lot of stoppages throughout.

  20. 'Southampton are doing a good job'published at 13:17 GMT 31 January

    Stoke 0-1 Southampton

    Jo Tessem
Ex-Southampton midfielder on BBC Radio Solent

We have made the Stoke players use up all their energy. They are a squad full of young players who will always run unnecessarily, and burn up their energy.

We have just been stretching them all game and making them chase the ball, Southampton are doing a good job at the moment.
