Finally, a word from Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler on Lewis Dunk, who hasn't been starting for the side recently: "There is always an opportunity for my captain to come back, to play. Against Newcastle we made this decision because we had the feeling that in the time where Lewis wasn't playing, he couldn't fully train and we had the feeling that we take care of the fitness of each player individually and therefore we try to make the right decision, what is best for the team.

"Now he has one more week, he could train one more week so that is a positive. Let's see how we play tomorrow."

  2. Milner and March set to return for Wolves gamepublished at 12:12 BST 8 May

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler provided a team news update: "Mats Wieffer, it will be tight for this game. I'm not sure if he can make it. He has a small ankle issue, nothing serious so therefore he will be assessed.

"Beside that, we have Diego Gomez who will be assessed. I'm hoping but it's important that we understand we can't risk his health. We have a responsibility for the players and therefore we have to make the right decision, not the decision that doesn't take care of the health.

"James Milner and Solly March will be back, they will definitely be an option."

  3. 'We can achieve something with this group'published at 12:10 BST 8 May

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler on developing the squad by signing better players: "Or you improve the players. That is always the way from this club and we have a good mix between old experienced players and a young group with a lot of potential and I think they don't 100 per cent fulfill their potential yet so therefore it is our responsibility to improve and develop them.

"It's not always about quality, sometimes it is just about togetherness, culture, the right standards because I feel we have enough quality in the squad. I feel like we can achieve something with this group but it's really about setting the standards right, having the right values in this club. The club is on the right way. We want to know that we can achieve something and win something. It's about winning, making the next step together with this club and that is the only focus."

  4. 'I see a bright future for this club and feel proud to be part of it'published at 12:08 BST 8 May

Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler on his new three-year deal at the club: "I'm very happy, I feel the trust, I feel good connection. We always have a very transparent and honest exchange which is crucial for our relationship. Now it is really about focusing on the final part of the season.

"We have three games to go and we want to finish strong so regarding my mindset, nothing changes. I'm here to improve the players. I'm here to achieve something with the players together with the staff. I'm happy for what the players did so far and now it is about getting a reward for all the work they have done. I see a bright future for this club and I feel proud to be a part of it."

A final word from Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, who was asked whether he has reached out to former Magpies midfielder Elliot Anderson, who recently lost his mum:

"I reached out to him and it's very very sad news for him and his family and, having been there myself, I totally know those emotions and those feelings and my thoughts immediately went to him and his family to make sure that they were okay.

"As you say, we have a really good relationship. I respect him both as a person and as a footballer and I'm so pleased to see him doing so well and for me that was never never in doubt."

  7. 'I've loved Osula's attitude from day one'published at 12:00 BST 8 May

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on whether there is more to come from Will Osula, who has scored three goals in his last four games:

"I think a lot more. I think he's got really rich potential. He's obviously outstandingly quick, powerful, can score goals off both feet, he's good in the air, so I think he's got a real array of different scoring techniques that he can use.

"He's really willing to learn and improve, I really loved that about him from day one here, he's put a lot of work in in his game, he really has, he's very committed to that process and I think he's got a really good general, a really good attitude to football.

"He enjoys the game, he wants to play, he's a very positive guy so it's great to see him doing well. I've seen how hard he's had to work to get that success and now he's in the team and doing well. He's got to make sure that he continues to stick to those processes that have worked for him."

  8. 'Wissa and Woltemade can make a difference next season'published at 11:58 BST 8 May

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on whether he sees Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa being at the club next season:

"Yeah, I do. It's difficult for me to give absolute certainty to that because the players themselves will have a big say in that as well.

"But my wish is that they are both here. I really think they've both got outstanding qualities. I think they can make a difference.

"They're very different players, of course. I wouldn't compare them.

"But I think they can really help the team."

On how he manages Wissa and Woltemade after their moves 'haven't gone as they would've liked':

"It's the same with any player. I think communication is really important.

"I spend a lot of time and effort to communicate regularly to the players to try and tell them what I want.

"Obviously very vocal and involved on the training pitch, again to try and help a player acclimatise and know what's required of them on the pitch.

"I think that's really important because I don't believe in big silences. I don't believe in leaving the players alone too much. I want to be actively helping them.

"That's always been my style and I'd love to think that won't change."

On whether he sees better for them in the future:

"Yeah, I'd say the same, again, consistently all season. I think for a lot of the new players, I think their best performances are ahead of them. I think they're all very, very good players, they just need a little bit of time, patience, work on the training pitch and of course then the players have to deliver, but I'm confident that they're all outstanding players."

  9. 'Thiaw has been a model of consistency'published at 11:55 BST 8 May

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on whether the club will attempt to replicate the signing of Malick Thiaw, who has made 51 appearances in all competitions during his first season as a Premier League player:

"He's done incredibly well, Malick. I think he's been a model of consistency. He's very level-headed, very good character, goes about his work in a really uncomplicated way, wants to train, wants to play. He obviously had a good season last year with AC Milan.

"I think we were very keen to get that deal done quite early. Thankfully we were able to beat off a couple of other clubs to get him.

"But every transfer is so different I don't think you can use that as a template. I think every transfer in its own right is different. So yeah, that would be a good one. We'd love to replicate but I don't think there's any guarantee that that will be the case."

  10. 'The summer transfer window is difficult to predict'published at 11:53 BST 8 May

Nottingham Forest v Newcastle (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, asked about the importance of selling early during the transfer window to avoid a repeat of last summer, said:

"I think it's difficult for me to comment too much on individual players and timescales and all that stuff because that's going into an area that isn't really my forte, so I'll leave that to other people.

"I think all I'm looking to do is try and finish the season with the squad in a really strong way and for the players be committed to what they're doing right here, right now. There's no point looking too far ahead into the future.

"The summer transfer window is difficult to predict, it's difficult to see what's going to happen on any level at this moment in time. So we've got three big games to play and we need to focus on them."

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, asked if he could shed light on reports of links between Anthony Gordon and Bayern Munich, said:

"No, none. That's not something I'm involved in."

On whether he will play Gordon, whose representatives have reportedly spoken to other clubs, after Howe previously said that he won't play players who he doesn't feel are 100% committed to the club:

"I always do what's right for the team and best for the football club.

"Those comments weren't related to Anthony Gordon, they were general and I like to think I've been consistent with that in my time as manager here and that's not going to change now."

On whether he feels Gordon is 100% committed:

"Yeah. He wouldn't be in the squad if that was [not] the case, and as I said many times, I don't judge that on communications elsewhere, I do that with my relationship with the player and how I see them train."

  12. 'Miley will come back a lot stronger'published at 11:47 BST 8 May

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe on Lewis Miley's injury record:

"It's been a huge frustration for him and I think he's had some really unfortunate moments. This one was a slip, there was nothing that he could have done about it. We've tried to manage his workload, we've tried to look after him.

"We are aware of his age, we've tried to nurture him to a degree and not overload him too much. It is part of the job that you will get these moments.

"Athletically, he is outstanding. And his body is strong. But he's still growing to a degree and finding himself. So it's all part of the process. I'm sure he'll come back a lot stronger."

On how difficult missing pre-season could prove for the midfielder:

"We anticipate him being in and around pre-season.

"Injuries all have... different things can happen in between. But our plan would be that he be in and around training during pre-season. Whether he's playing those games, those pre-season matches, let's wait and see.

"But I think the most important thing for Lewis in the short-term is just to relax, focus on the injury. The surgery went really well, everything's looking in a good place. I don't want to put too much pressure on him or give time scales because that can be negative."

  13. 'That's the fragile nature of a footballer's career'published at 11:44 BST 8 May

More bad news on the injury front for Newcastle United this week came in the shape of midfielder Lewis Miley, who broke his lower right leg in training.

    On the incident, Howe said:

"It was a really innocuous moment at training on Tuesday. There was no one around him, no other player involved. He slipped and went down. Probably at that moment we thought maybe just a twist or something, nothing too serious. But he was unable to continue. Pretty early we became aware that it was more serious than we thought.

"That's the fragile nature of a professional footballer's career and now he faces a few months out. We hope that he'll be back in and around pre-season. It's a real shame because he's been playing really really well. Outstanding in recent weeks. We really missed him when he got his injury last time. So a real blow for us and also for Lewis. Knowing his strength of character he'll be back better than ever but it's going to be a blow for him and for us."

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe with an update on the injured Fabian Schar:

"I'm not 100% sure, his situation was slightly unique. Obviously, he was very very close to returning to full fitness and then got this infection and it's something now he's building up his strength and his resilience again.

"He's looking a lot more positive in his body at the moment. Whether or not he's going to be fit enough to take to the pitch again between now the end of season let's wait and see."

On when they will have clarity on Schar's contract situation:

"I think every situation is different and it's difficult to give a definitive date on that. But I'll be in communication with [sporting director] Ross [Wilson] between now and the end of the season and when we know, we know."

  15. 'I do not think Livramento will be back this season'published at 11:38 BST 8 May

Nottingham Forest v Newcastle (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe began his news conference with an update on the injured Tino Livramento:

"Tino's doing well. He's really improving. He's back running again. He's on the grass.

"I don't think he'll be back this season. I think we could possibly push him maybe for the Fulham game but I think that would be silly really on his behalf.

"I think let's let him recover and get a good summer behind him."
