Don't worry Newcastle fans, Fulham showed us we need at least a four-goal cushion to be comfortable this season. I reckon you'll turn us over in the second half and have a date with Arsenal in March.

Eddy Howe is a top manager, and Newcastle need him to stay long term. The key now is to get deals done for new signings now to complete on the first day of the summer transfer window. It’s the planning and execution that has been poor in recent windows.

Manager Eddie Howe spoke at length this morning about why Newcastle failed to make any moves in the winter transfer window, despite suffering a glut of injuries in defence.

He also explained why club captain Jamaal Lascelles has been allowed to leave the club to join Championship side Leicester City, a deal that has been confirmed today.

Everton’s window is a sensible one. George in to replace Grealish and not much else needed. Full-backs are now definitely a summer priority, but no point spending in winter on the incorrect profile. Let’s see where we are in May and another summer window to strengthen beyond that.

  8. Guehi ineligible for Man City's Carabao Cup campaignpublished at 12:13 GMT 3 February

Man City v Newcastle (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

Manchester City defender Marc Guehi is ineligible to play in Wednesday's Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle.

City signed the 25-year-old centre-back from Crystal Palace after the first leg victory over the Magpies, but players have to be registered before that game in order to be able to take part in the tie.

Should City progress, the England international would also be ineligible for the final at Wembley on Sunday, 22 March.

Antoine Semenyo joined City from Bournemouth in January but was signed in time for the first leg, where he scored in the 2-0 victory at St James' Park.

9/10 Sunderland. A window about saving our key players - and that we did. Shipped out fringe players and brought in youth with future potential. Shows you don’t need big signings to have a great window!

Brentford - B. A new back-up striker brought in with time to settle. Lots of youngsters on loan with a chance to gain experience. Onyeka was a good guy - hope to see him back in EPL next year with Coventry.

  18. 'Liverpool need cover and they haven't given it to Arne Slot'published at 11:58 GMT 3 February

    Rory Smith
Football Correspondent for The Observer on BBC Radio 5 Live

The strange thing for me about Liverpool today, they were going for Lutsharel Geertruida yesterday, someone has said no, and they haven't thought 'let's go get someone else who can play centre back and right back', because they need cover.

Whether you can blame whatever happens in the rest of Liverpool's season on Arne Slot, when they haven't given him that cover I don't know.

  19. 'Jacquet can become one of best centre-backs in the world'published at 11:57 GMT 3 February

    Julien Laurens
ESPN journalist on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's a lot of money but Jacquet has everything to become one of the best centre-backs in the world in the next few years.

He's quite tall, quick and strong - and he's a machine when it comes to duels in the air and on the ground. He reads the game well and is good on the ball.

He's not a proper ball-playing centre-back yet. Technically, there is a lot to improve on, but he's a smart kid and he can get there and become like a Virgil van Dijk.
