Brighton & Hove Albion didn't do much during the January window. As with most clubs we desperately need a 10/15 goal-a-season striker, especially since losing our Greek youngster. Bringing back Gross a touch of genius and Hurzeler never gave O'Riley an opportunity so now is his chance. Overall satisfied.

Bournemouth, B+ - Toth and Rayan both look like fantastic additions to the squad and brought in some competition for Petrovic too. Could have done with some defensive cover, but overall pretty happy.

Right, before Pep Guardiola interrupted us with his "entertaining" Carabao Cup news conference, we were taking a whistle stop tour through the signings each Premier League club has made during the winter transfer window.

Next up is 12th-placed Bournemouth, who may have sold key player Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City but have brought in some impressive-looking young players.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was clear in his remarks when placing the club as seventh in NET spend over the past five years in the Premier League.

If you were to focus simply on spending, and take the money out of the equation that the club has recouped on player sales, then City would be higher up this list.

We are just looking at those figures for you now, as a comparison...

  9. Recap: Pep Guardiola news conferencepublished at 13:10 GMT 3 February

Man City v Newcastle (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

As fascinating as ever from Pep Guardiola in his pre-match news conference this afternoon.

He certainly did give us some "nice quotes".

    Here are the top lines:

    • Guardiola said his side have the chance to make their fifth Carabao Cup final in 10 years but emphasised that the job is far from done against Newcastle
    • He spoke about the second-half struggles of his side, highlighting their youthfulness as a potential reason as to why
    • Team news: Jeremy Doku remains out for the match while Rayan Cherki is a doubt, however, Ruben Dias is back in training
    • He spoke about the struggles of Kalvin Phillips since his move to Manchester and claimed everybody is "desperate" for him to get back to his best
    • Finally, he dropped a bombshell with his final answer, with witty remarks about the club's net spend and challenged those teams above City to do what they have done

[response to Waasil 11:38] Anything less than an A* for Man City [transfer window] shows how pampered their fans are: buying a world-class CB and the PL's 3rd top scorer, the clear best players from their former teams, only scores a B?

  12. 'Net spend in the last five years - we are seventh in the PL'published at 12:53 GMT 3 February

Man City v Newcastle (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

    Hugo VianaImage source, Getty Images

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on how much credit Hugo Viana gets for the players he has been able to bring in this January: "Really good. I am a little bit sad and upset because net spend the last five years, we are seventh in the Premier League. I want to be the first. I don't understand how the club don't spend more money so I am a little bit grumpy with them.

"But, with the position like we were in the past, because we spent a lot, now six teams have to win the Champions League and Premier Leagues and FA Cups because they have spent more in the last five years.

"This is a fact. You can say opinions like 'you played good' or 'you played bad' - we can agree or disagree but those are facts.

"Good luck to the six teams that are in front of us in net spend over the last five years. Good luck, we are waiting.

    "Nice quote, eh?"

  13. 'Everyone is desperate for Phillips to be his best because he deserves it'published at 12:49 GMT 3 February

Man City v Newcastle (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on Kalvin Phillips and his last few years being difficult, following Monday's loan move to Sheffield United: "He has trained in the last days because he was injured and he has to get minutes to recover to his best. He has to play, have some loans. How he is as a guy, everyone is desperate for him to come back and play some minutes and be his best because he deserves it."

On how much he has struggled: "It is true but most of the time it has been setbacks with injuries with knees and hamstrings and shoulders and ankles. He has struggled with that. Not just Kalvin, not being available to play was more difficult."

  14. 'I'm a little sad we are net seventh in spending in the Premier League'published at 12:48 GMT 3 February

Man City v Newcastle (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Hard to say whether or not Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is being playful or is in a genuinely spiky mood.

But he said, with a heavy hint of sarcasm, that he was a "little upset" - "a little grumpy" - as the club had been seventh in net spending in the Premier League over the past five years.

He does not understand why they cannot spend more than other clubs.

Guardiola added, "good luck to the other teams that spend more", before finishing "nice quote eh?".

  15. 'We will see how Cherki feels'published at 12:45 GMT 3 February

Man City v Newcastle (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on team news: "He [Rayan Cherki] had a knock. We will see today how he feels.

  16. 'It is the youngest side we have had in 10 years'published at 12:44 GMT 3 February

Man City v Newcastle (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on the mixed results in January: "It is a different competition. When you play Carabao Cup it is a competition, Champions League is another one. Of course results help."

On why he believes the side have struggled in second halves this season: "It is the reality. The second half we have dropped what we have shown in the first. It is the youngest side we have had in 10 years and maybe we need to live it and stop trying to do what we did in the first halves. We have to grow with that, definitely."

  17. Team news - Cherki doubt, Dias back training, Doku outpublished at 12:43 GMT 3 February

Man City v Newcastle (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said Rayan Cherki has a knock and he will see today how he feels.

He added that Ruben Dias was back in training but Jeremy Doku is still out.

  18. 'We have the chance to make our fifth Carabao Cup final in 10 years'published at 12:41 GMT 3 February

Man City v Newcastle (Wed, 20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on Wednesday's game: "We have the chance to make out fifth final in 10 years in the Carabao Cup. I prefer to start with 2-0 up but I know perfectly how many times we have played Newcastle - the pride they have. They are a Champions League team and it will be a tough game.

"We have to be prepared and play our game for our people, our fans and try and reach Wembley in March."
