Manchester United need to be sharp and focused from the very first second. A goal for Harder within the opening two minutes last week, at home to start a Champions League tie is criminal.

The second leg is where things tend to go wrong for Bayern Munich.

In their last two knockout stage ties, they've let slip a first-leg advantage and exited the competition.

That stat might give Manchester United fans a glimmer of hope, but (and it's a big but)... Bayern have progressed through each of their seven two-legged ties when winning the first leg away from home.

And the German side are unbeaten at home since 18 March 2025.

Bayern Munich have won all five of their home fixtures against English opposition in the Women's Champions League.

They've beat Chelsea twice and Arsenal three times. Can Manchester United buck the trend?

This is a massive match up. It's all to play for. The first goal is so crucial, Manchester United can't concede first because in this stadium, with these fans, if they do things could get tricky.

Manchester United

Manchester United boss Marc Skinner speaking to Disney+: "We put ourselves in a position in the last game where we were at a disadvantage from the off, so today we have to be more focused in those moments.

"I felt that we gave Bayern the central areas of the field, whereas in this game we need to be much tighter, much more compact and make them work harder to create chances. Then we need to capitalise from there.

"In the first game we created enough chances to be really encouraged by, but we have to turn around a one goal defict, that is the task. There was a fantastic night in Barcelona for the men's team, they were 1-0 down to Bayern Munich, and we know the result of that. We need that spirit and energy tonight, if we can have that and harness it, with our quality we can make history again tonight."

Manchester United need to stop Bayern at source, by either pressing high or by sitting in a low to mid block and preventing those long balls. You've got to do one or the other because if you are in the middle then you are stuck, the back line are at sixes and sevens and there is just so much space. To be able to cover so much ground is a lot, so they need to be much tighter, bring the units closer together.

Bayern Munich have only lost once this season across all competitions. That was in their first Champions League match - a 7-1 thrashing by Barcelona.

Since then, they've gone on a 24-match unbeaten run and have won their last 12 games in a row.

Sitting 13 points clear with only five games left, Bayern have more or less wrapped up a fourth straight Frauen Bundesliga title, and they've got one foot in the Champions League semi-finals.

This could be a very special season for the German giants.

Arsenal

Arsenal defender Lotte Wubben-Moy sees her side as a puzzle Champions League quarter-final opponents Chelsea might find too tough to solve.

The Gunners have a 3-1 aggregate advantage heading into tonight’s second leg at Stamford Bridge, where they will look to build on their momentum from Saturday’s 5-2 Women’s Super League victory over Tottenham.

England defender Wubben-Moy has been rewarded with more playing time this season, and her confidence has grown with each appearance in Renee Slegers’ starting XI.

“I’m made for this,” she said. “When it gets into flow, rhythm, game upon game, I live my life pretty meticulously.

“I’m playing football with a smile on my face, I feel strong and confident, and I think when you’re in that sort of space you can contribute to the team, and that’s always top of my list of what I want to do.

“I view myself very much as a puzzle piece. I’m very gladly part of this Arsenal puzzle. That puzzle is then for our opposition to try to solve.”

Chelsea

Chelsea start the second leg with a two-goal deficit, but Blues midfielder Erin Cuthbert was confident her side could still progress into the semi-finals.

"We have the belief we can do it. We’ve done it before, but we’re under no illusions," said the Scotland international.

“It’s a tough one. I think the first goal is going to be vital, that we start fast and set intentions earlier.”

Defending champions Arsenal will be feeling confident heading into their second leg against Chelsea with a two-goal lead later this evening.

Renee Slegers' side scored two goals in the first half to deal a blow to visitors Chelsea and confirmed victory through Alessia Russo late on.

An outrageous lob from Lauren James in the second half threatened a comeback from Chelsea but it did not materialise - and two controversial decisions did not help Sonia Bompastor's mood.
