    Hull 0-0 Swansea

Just the two changes for Hull after their 3-0 win at Preston in the week. Joint-top goalscorer Joe Gelhardt starts for the first time since early December and Kyle Joseph comes in. Matt Crooks and David Akintola drop to the bench.

Also two changes for Swansea from the 3-1 win over Blackburn. Jay Fulton and Liam Cullen in for Marko Stamenic and Melker Widell.

  2. New signing Mehmeti on bench for Ipswichpublished at 15:01 GMT 24 January

    Sheff Utd 0-0 Ipswich

Chris Wilder obviously wasn’t happy with what he saw from his Blades side in the 1-0 loss at Southampton in midweek as he makes six changes to the line-up.

Sam McCallum, Gus Hamer, Andre Brooks, Tom Davies, Femi Seriki and Patrick Bamford all come in. Ki-Jana Hoever, Harrison Burrows, Tahith Chong, Ollie Arblaster, Tom Cannon and Tyrese Campbell drop to the bench.

The big news for Ipswich is that they’re without the injured Jaden Philogene and Marcelino Nunez. Kieran McKenna makes five changes from the 2-0 win over Bristol City.

Jacob Greaves, Jack Taylor, Sindre Walle Egeli, Sammie Szmodics and George Hirst come in. New signing Anis Mehmeti, who played against the Tractor Boys on Tuesday, is among the subs.

  6. Rovers reeling, Watford free-wheelingpublished at 14:56 GMT 24 January

    Blackburn v Watford (15:00 GMT)

Blackburn Rovers host Watford in the Championship on Saturday

A penny for the thoughts of Blackburn Rovers fans right now although you probably would not have to give them that penny to gauge the mood at Ewood Park.

Such is the discontent, the Blackburn Rovers Supporters Coalition is calling for a "phased strategic boycott of home fixtures" until owners Venky's put the club up for sale, beginning with today's visit of Watford.

The mood is not helped by Valerien Ismael's side dropping into the relegation zone with just one win from their past 12 league outings and being without 13 first team players for Tuesday's defeat by Swansea.

"The club recognises and respects the strength of feeling among sections of the fanbase and understands that supporters care deeply about the future of the club," said a Rovers statement.

Winning might help to quell the growing unrest.

Watford fans are no strangers to frustration with their owners, mainly down to their penchant for changing head coach more regularly than some people change their socks.

But the return of Javi Gracia has turned them from also-rans into play-off challengers.

Currently fourth in the form guide and with only two losses from their past dozen matches it will not be easy for Blackburn to lift the gloom this afternoon.

  7. Shot-shy Stoke looking to bounce backpublished at 14:52 GMT 24 January

    Birmingham v Stoke (15:00 GMT)

    Media caption,

Stoke boss Mark Robins discusses the injury situation and the game at Birmingham.

Birmingham have found some form to close the gap to the play-off places and are unbeaten in their last eight at home in the Championship.

New signing August Priske could feature today and add to their attacking options.

Stoke's early-season promise is fading as their injury list grows, with Mark Robins' side desperately short of firepower.

The Potters are without all four of their forwards and have scored only five goals in their past seven Championship games.

"The biggest frustration is we have a real opportunity," Robins said.

"We've got to maintain that, stick in there and pick points up. We've got to do that, all the time."

  8. Can Foxes break the cycle?published at 14:49 GMT 24 January

    Leicester v Oxford (15:00 GMT)

"I have no idea how we are going to break this cycle of apathetic football."

That was the feeling among Leicester fans after a 1-1 draw at Wrexham in midweek which leaves the Foxes down in 14th place in a congested mid-table.

A decade on from winning the Premier League the home fans clearly want more. Is this a day to deliver?

Oxford, meanwhile, start the day in 23rd spot and desperatley need to find a way to win.

  9. Robins hoping for return to winning ways over Owlspublished at 14:46 GMT 24 January

Bristol City v Sheff Wed (15:00 GMT)

Bristol City might be 11th in the Championship and without a win in their past three games, but such is the tight nature of this division, they’re still in the mix if they can start stringing a few results together.

The Robins trail Preston in sixth by just three points and will be strong favourites to return to winning ways this afternoon against a Sheffield Wednesday side with nothing but pride at stake.

The Owls have been all but down for three months since they were hit with their initial 12-point deduction after going into administration in October, before a further six-point deduction in December for regulation breaches.

With just one win all season and on a run of four straight defeats, Wednesday are on -7 points and 36 adrift of safety as they effectively continue preparations for League One next season.

  10. 'Goal spree unlikely'published at 14:44 GMT 24 January

    QPR v Wrexham (15:00 GMT)

    Chris Wathan
BBC Sport Wales at Loftus Road

A bit of chatter here at a sunny but chilly Loftus Road whether this game is likely to bring the goal sprees we've seen in the early Championship games.

Perhaps unlikely given QPR go into this one on the back of two goalless draws and having kept a clean sheet in the previous league outing.

Wrexham, though, are keen to rediscover some momentum after defeat by Norwich last weekend and conceding a late leveller against Leicester in midweek.

Phil Parkinson has opted for the Wales double act of Kieffer Moore and Nathan Broadhead with Issa Kabore, the flying wing back on loan from Manchester City, one of four changes for the visitors.

As for the Hoops, Rhys Norrington-Davies is one of three new faces from the side that drew at Oxford. With World Cup play-off injury worries around Spurs' Ben Davies, a chance for the Wales international to impress Craig Bellamy maybe?

  11. Nearly men seeking an answer to inconsistencypublished at 14:43 GMT 24 January

    QPR v Wrexham (15:00 GMT)

    Media caption,

Manager Stéphan looks ahead to Satuday's Championship match at home with BBC's Phil Parry

This feels like a battle of 'the nearlies.'

Every time you think QPR or Wrexham may have cracked it, they slip up.

But for Leicester's 90th-minute equaliser on Friday the Welshmen would be all but in the play-off places.

QPR keep following a good run of form with something less than ordinary - one win from their past six games means they are three points short of the top six and their negative goal difference does not help.

So, can one of these two grasp the nettle this afternoon?

QPR have won their past four league meetings with Wrexham, including in North Wales in September while the visitors are seeking to make it three successive away wins in the second tier for the first time in their history.

The nature of the Championship makes it a division of opportunity for those who can find consistency, which has proved easier said than done for Rangers and Wrexham so far.

  12. 'Tigers are flying'published at 14:40 GMT 24 January

Hull City v Swansea (15:00 GMT)

    Andy Sixsmith
    Final Score

Welcome to the home of the Championship’s in-form team.

Hull are flying with six wins in eight - with the Tigers bearing down on the top two.

One fan I spoke to already dreaming of the Premier League, “imagine Arsenal coming here again…” she said.

Well first, it’s Swansea today in the Championship with Vitor Matos’s side only beaten once in six games.

The Portuguese spent five years under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool - a win today and you imagine the phrase, ‘Boom’ could be used.

  13. Tigers face tough Swans test in play-off huntpublished at 14:37 GMT 24 January

    Hull v Swansea (15:00 GMT)

Hull boss Sergej Jakirovic celebrates with his players after the 3-0 win at PrestonImage source, PA Media

Not many would have had Hull City down as strong contenders for a play-off finish after they narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of the 2024-25 season, but the Tigers just keep on producing.

Sergej Jakirovic's side brushed aside top-six rivals Preston with consummate ease on Tuesday night with a 3-0 win to make it six victories in their past nine (D1 L1).

Fifth-placed Hull have lost just one of their 13 games against bottom-half opposition so far this season (W9 D3) but face a tough test against an improving Swansea under Vitor Matos.

The 37-year-old former Liverpool coach lost his first two in charge after replacing Alan Sheehan in November but has since led the Swans to six wins in 10 games.

Swansea are now closer to the play-off places (seven points behind) than the relegation zone (eight points clear) and will be hoping to continue moving in the right direction.

  14. 'A scoreline Millwall's performance deserved'published at 14:35 GMT 24 January

    FT: Millwall 4-0 Charlton

    Chris Peddy
    BBC Sport at The Den

A big finish from Millwall saw them add the gloss to the scoreline their performance deserved.

The Lions dominated from the start, having 23 shots to Charlton's three, producing an xG of 3.91 to 0.14.

Had Femi Azeez and Josh Coburn taken their early chances, they'd have been out of sight at half time and could have added even more goals to their tally.

Their unbeaten run against their south-east London rivals stretches to 14 matches - dating back to 1996 - and is their fourth win in six matches.

  15. Will Tractor Boys roll over blunt Blades?published at 14:34 GMT 24 January

Sheff Utd v Ipswich (15:00 GMT)

When these two sides met at Portman Road in September, Ipswich’s 5-0 demolition of Sheffield United spelled the end of a miserable short-lived reign for then Blades boss Ruben Selles.

With United rooted to the foot of the Championship after losing their opening six games, the Spaniard was sacked and replaced by Chris Wilder, returning for his third spell at Bramall Lane.

Things have improved somewhat since Wilder resumed office but the Blades maybe haven’t kicked on as much as they would have liked and sit just four points above the drop zone after losing their past two.

The Tractor Boys have been on a roll since early December, winning seven of their past nine (D1 L1) and are on a four-game winning run as they look to bounce back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Kieran McKenna’s side need a win to keep in touch with second-placed Middlesbrough after they thrashed Preston 4-0 at lunchtime.

Big 4-0 wins for both Middlesbrough and Millwall and this is how things stand before the 15:00 GMT kick-offs in the Championship.

Boro cut the gap to leaders Coventry to just three points before the Sky Blues visit Norwich on Monday night and Preston could well slip out of the top six this afternoon.

The Lions now have a firm grip on a play-off spot, while Charlton remain four points above the drop zone having played a game more than Blackburn, who host Watford.
