It was interesting to hear the Palace boss say this week that expectations were made too high by that end-of-season form.

They have missed Michael Olise for sure. He has scored five goals in his last three games for Bayern Munich.

Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, speaking to MOTD: "We want to win matches easier than we did. We are showing how difficult it is to win in the Premier League - last week against Everton [0-2 to win 3-2].

"We were suffering in the first half but the second half was completely different. I am very happy because we won. It was very important we changed our energy and we played to win in the second half."

On Jhon Duran: "Good impact again. The most important thing is we won. We will need all the players in the matches we play in the next few weeks."

Everton

Everton boss Sean Dyche speaking to BBC MOTD: "I thought that from us it was a positive display. There have been question marks around us not winning, but we have got our nose in front and I thought we delivered a good performance.

"I don't like crying in luck too much but the ball falls to them in a moment where we did not look in too much trouble defensively. They only had two shots on target at home, which I'm pleased with.

"We know we have to take chances. We created enough again today to be more than one goal in front but generally a positive display.

"Lots of positive signs. A ball falls to them in an unfortunate moment and that is the way it is going at the moment, but I thought that there was a big shift in our play today."

On Illiman Ndiaye: "Really pleased. he ran out of steam a bit towards the end of the game but he has played more football than we were expecting him to at this stage. For the goal it was great play from Ashley Young to put in the ball and a great touch and finish from Illiman.

On remaining winless: "I look at it as it is. There are positive signs that we are moving closer to the way we want to play. We are still moulding a group together that can do what we want to do, so it is a constant work in progress."

Another United defender causing mayhem in the opposition box. Lisandro Martínez's effort is blocked. He calls for a penalty, I'm not even sure why, but not given.

Matthijs de Ligt v Dean Henderson again, and this is a real chance.

The Manchester United defender comes flying in to get his head onto a corner. Down into the ground and well saved by the Palace custodian.

Southampton

Southampton midfielder and former Ipswich player Flynn Downes said: "When you concede that late on it feels like a loss. We had some tough spells but we defended so well.

"We're doing it for spells, but not the full 90 minutes and we've conceded too much.

"We're so together as group but we have to score that second goal and see out the game. It feels like a loss, but we have to take the positives."

First big chance of the game as Alejandro Garnacho races onto Joshua Zirkzee's through ball down the middle. He enters the box and tries to shoot into the right corner of the goal but it's tipped away by the diving Dean Henderson.

Ipswich Town

Ipswich Town goalscorer Sam Morsy said: "If you're away from home and score in the 95th minute it's a great feeling and great to celebrate with our fans and a hard earned point.

"We knew they are a good team, they do some things exceptionally well. We're a team that's getting better every week, there are things to improve but we have resolve in abundance, we kept going and got what we deserved.

"I thought we were the better team today. It keeps the momentum going and the spirit we have built over the last couple of seasons and we never say die."

Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank speaking to BBC MOTD: "I'm very pleased with the performance, I think we did a lot of good things. We had four good chances to create the equalise before the goal from Maddison.

"We need to take those chances if we want to get something here, Playing against a very good team who have performed well over the first four games. Today they probably raised their level a bit, plus they got the small margins and the momentum and then they are difficult to play against.

"We are playing against a team whose end stand is bigger than our stadium in terms of capacity. That shows the difference. No complaints.

"It's my job to put a competitive team out there but it doesn't help when we have five potential starters out."

On Guglielmo Vicario handling the ball outside the box: "It wasn't impacting the game. It wasn't a penalty, it wasn't a red card, it was just a free-kick outside the box which John [Brooks] should have seen. I think he refereed a very good game, that was just a small little thing. If you come here you need to get everything with us to maximise our chances in the game."

On the fast start: "Of course we train and practice the kick-off. That was a great goal."
