First goosebumps of the night when the Real Madrid fans sang their pre-match anthem 'Hala Madrid y nada mas'.

    That was something else.

Manchester City are improving, but you can see in the games recently against Fulham and Leeds, they seem to lack that bit of control that Pep craves, and he wants that control.

The Arsenal U19 squad, who lost 2-1 to Club Brugge earlier this afternoon in the Uefa U19 Youth League match, are sat just in front of the media seating.

It's a good learning experience for them. Marli Salmon, Josh Nichols and Louis Copley who are on the bench tonight have played for the team this season soon.

I like seeing players like that. It is the street footballer, and that is what it looks like to me.

Sometimes it can be taken out of players, but you want to see mavericks in the game. Rayan Cherki is the exact player that people want to see.

I think Mikel Arteta and Enzo Maresca are adapting, but Pep is the king of it.

With that said, if you go back through his long and glorious career.

There is not many that he has been willing to accommodate. Pep had a year of Zlatan, and he didn't like Deco.

There has not been that many times that Pep has said, 'I will accept you having this individual streak'.

Rayan Cherki will have to change more than Guardiola.

Three wins and two defeats for Newcastle in the Champions League this season but that defeat in Marseille last time out stung.

The Real Madrid players have not been performing.

Watching them at Liverpool they were poor. Liverpool ran over the top of them. The game against Celta Vigo at the weekend they were poor, again. It is obvious that it is not working.

They performed under Carlo Ancelotti and they performed under Zinedine Zidane and under Xabi Alonso they haven't done it this season. I hope he gets more time because I think he is a top manager.

At the minute, it hasn't been great working with these egos.

Xabi Alonso knew things would be complicated. Ancelotti had already warned him, privately and publicly, that certain ideas were prepared during the week but never applied on the pitch.

Kylian Mbappe thinks about his records. Vinicius worries about not losing his authority in the team. Federico Valverde wants to play in midfield and doesn't yet have the maturity expected from a captain.

On the day of the match at Liverpool, those who make the decisions at Real Madrid were openly expressing full support and admiration for what Alonso was doing - modernising the team, making it dynamic and versatile.

He had just beaten Barcelona and was on a run of 13 wins in 14 matches. But after the defeat at Anfield, followed by draws away to Rayo and Elche, the pressure became relentless.

Stories began to leak out that there were too many videos, that the demands were too high, that the players were expected to be robots. The typical clash between a coach with a clear methodology and players who want to rely on instinct.

    Problems had been accumulated.

Kind of a crazy lineup from Arteta tonight. Norgaard at centre-back? Looks like he’s trying to give crucial players a rest, look to let some players get back healthy, and try to consolidate for the December Premier League push. Luckily, they can afford to take the risk tonight due to being top of the Champions League table.

Rice is a huge miss. Zubimendi is a brilliant player in that position, but he'd be a lot better with Rice next to him.

Zubimendi will have to show his leadership qualities on the pitch.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta on facing Club Brugge: "We want to continue to do the job that we have started in the first five games.

"They have a new manager and a new manager always brings new energy, new ideas.

"We have prepared for that as well and we have to show again that we are right at the top and be better than the opponents in this game."

Arsenal are the only side with a 100% win record in the Champions League this season, winning all five matches.

In European Cup history, the four English teams to win their first six games of a campaign are Manchester United in 1965-66, Leeds United in 1969-70, Liverpool in both 2021-22 and 2024-25, and Manchester City in 2023-24.

In their day, Ajax were one of the most feared teams in Europe.

The Dutch club were crowned champions of Europe in 1970-71, 1971-72, 1972-73 and 1994-95.

Ajax, however, have fallen on hard times and went into today's game against Qarabag in Azerbaijan on the back of five Champions League defeats out of five.

They trailed Qarabag 1-0 and 2-1 before hitting back to score three times in 11 minutes to win 4-2 and get their first points of the campaign.

Their next match is away to Villarreal, who crashed 3-2 at home to Copenhagen in the other early kick-off. Former Cardiff City forward Andreas Cornelius scored the 90th-minute winner.

Nick Woltemade returns to Germany as a fan favourite at Newcastle after his big-money move in the summer window.

Boss Eddie Howe was full of praise for his German forward: "He has done brilliantly. I have just had the pleasure of half an hour with him on the way here and he is a great person and a great character.

"On the pitch he has done really well, he has fitted in superbly and really bought into the team ethos. We need to try and create more for him as a team but the chances he has got he has invariably done well with them."

Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade says he didn't pay attention to the comments from Bayern Munich supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge after his £69m move in the summer.

The 23-year-old's move from Stuttgart was thrust back into the spotlight after Rummenigge publicly mocked the fee, claiming Stuttgart had "found an idiot who will pay that much money" and insisting Bayern "would have certainly not done that".

Rather than biting back at Rummenigge or engaging in a public tug-of-war over his price tag, Woltemade cut a calm, measured figure during the press conference before Newcastle played Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

"To be honest, I don't care," Woltemade said. "I don't read it. A lot of people speak about me, and if I listen to everything, then I can't focus on myself.

"I don't read, I just take care of myself, I focus on myself, and at the end, I am not deciding what someone is paying for me. But I am really happy Newcastle has paid this for me because I am really happy in Newcastle."
