Everton defender Ruby Mace, speaking on BBC iPlayer: "I think today is a game where we have to prove ourselves coming up against the champions. For us, we did that today. I'm so proud of my team and so proud of Everton."

On how well they had to perform to win today: "Very good. Sweat, blood and tears today. I couldn't be prouder of this team.

"We said at half-time, the only ones who will beat this team are the ones who put their body on their line. The morale of today's game is togetherness, and we did that today."

That victory is Everton's first since the opening day of the season when they beat neighbours Liverpool at Anfield.

It's also their first win in 17 games against Chelsea, having drawn one and lost 15 of the 16 meetings prior to this afternoon.

It's also their first clean sheet of the campaign after ten attempts.

What grit. What determination. What a performance.

It was a fantastic game plan from Everton. They came here, they knew what they needed to do, and they wanted to play in those transition moments. They wanted to stay compact and organised, defended aggressively, and they did exactly that.

They had the woodwork to save them a few times, and they had Courtney Brosnan. They executed a perfect game plan against this Chelsea team. Frustated them, and Chelsea weren't able to put the ball in the back of the net, but this is full credit to Everton.

They deserved the result.

You earn your luck and I think Everton have done that.

Chelsea have FINALLY lost a league game under Sonia Bompastor.

Everton become the first side to defeat them in the Women's Super League since Liverpool on 5th May 2024.

After 585 days their unbeaten league run ends at 34 games.
