They might have seen a 10-point lead at the summit whittled away by Middlesbrough, but Coventry seem to have regained their footing and have the chance to capitalise on Boro's own wobble by restoring a five-point cushion at the top of the Championship when they head to play-off chasing Sheffield United tonight.

Millwall have slipped to fifth after last night's results but a win over Birmingham tonight would take them back to third and within four points of Boro, while a win for Blues would return them to seventh, within two points of the top-six.

Oxford United are six points from safety but will seek to build on their battling draw at the Riverside last time out as they head to Stoke, who are now as close to the drop-zone as they are the play-off spots.

Norwich could pull within two points of the Potters, something which seemed unthinkable in the opening few months of the season, if they can overcome already relegated Sheffield Wednesday at Carrow Road, coupled with defeat for Mark Robins' side.

Some big news to bring you from earlier today, a consortium led by former professional poker player James Bord has pulled out of a proposed £47.8m takeover of Sheffield Wednesday.

The consortium of Bord, Felix Romer and Alsharif Faisal Bin Jamil was named as the preferred bidder for the Championship club on 24 December.

"To all the long-suffering fans of this great club, it is with the greatest regret that we have decided not to pursue our bid to become your new custodians," said a statement released by the consortium on Wednesday.

Eric Ramsay was probably already turning his attention to Saturday's six-pointer at Oxford United after last night's 1-1 draw with Charlton when the tap on the shoulder came.

At quarter past 11 West Brom announced they had parted company with the former Minnesota United boss after nine winless games and six weeks in charge - the second head coach shown the door at The Hawthorns this season.

"The question around my job and the future is never one I can ever answer or attempt to answer," he told BBC Radio WM after the Charlton draw.

"I can only do what I can do over the course of a day and put my head on the pillow at night feeling I've turned over every stone."

While Ramsay was turning stones, Albion have turned the page as he became the Championship's 12th managerial change so far this season.

There are many things you can say about the Championship but dull is not one of them.

Last night's eight games produced 25 goals, a managerial sacking and rap royalty in south Wales (see what I mean about not being dull?).

We have four more matches to bring you this evening affecting the top, play-offs and the bottom of the table.

That's probably enough of a set up so let's crack on...
