    Back on Friday...

Wonder goals, red cards and dramatic turnarounds... just another Wednesday night on Planet Championship.

Coventry's second wind in the title race and a hard-fought win at Sheffield United has taken them out to a five-point lead, and with Middlesbrough gasping for air, Millwall showed they have no intention of slipping quietly away from the leading pack with a stellar showing to see off upwardly-mobile Birmingham.

Norwich look safe as houses under Philippe Clement and are within six points of the top-half now after seeing-off beleaguered Sheffield Wednesday while Oxford might well be joining the Owls in League One next season unless they can get going under Matt Bloomfield following defeat at Stoke.

Thanks for your company tonight, we'll be back on Friday for a big play-off clash between Bristol City and Watford, see you then!

  2. The club can have a bright future - Pedersenpublished at 22:38 GMT 25 February

    FT: Norwich 2-0 Sheff Wed

    Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday suffered an 11th straight Championship defeat at Carrow Road on the day their proposed takeover fell through.

Owls boss Henrik Pedersen told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"We're just relegated and so many fans are coming down on a long trip to Norwich, the most important thing was to make them proud.

"The boys played for the shirt and the last moment where we were all together because we want to say thank you for this amazing support - it shows why we are the club we are and can have a bright future.

"I had to focus on the game the whole day so I only heard (about the consortium) like the other employees at the club.

"I only know the administrator should have a plan B for how we can come quick to the next step so I look forward to further progress."

  3. We had to stay professional - Clementpublished at 22:37 GMT 25 February

    FT: Norwich 2-0 Sheff Wed

    Norwich City

Norwich moved eight-points clear of the relegation zone after seeing-off rock-bottom Sheffield Wednesday at Carrow Road.

Canaries head coach Philippe Clement told BBC Radio Norfolk:

"We knew Sheffield Wednesday were a team that had lost a lot of games - but a lot, I think, by only one goal difference.

"We knew it was a massive game and we could not underestimate them and we had by far the most chances, most possession, two good goals, could have been more, so a lot of pleasing things.

"The team stayed focused, very professional, very well organised and that's our strength that we need to use in the coming weeks and months.

"Taking players off when they are good in the game because in a few days you have another game and they're not ready to play 90 minutes two times in a row, it's a tough job and we're working hard to make them stronger, to make them better."

  4. No ceiling on expectations - Neilpublished at 22:36 GMT 25 February

    FT: Millwall 3-0 Birmingham

    Millwall

Millwall returned to the top-three after a convincing win over in-form Birmingham at The Den.

Lions boss Alex Neil told BBC Radio London:

“On our day we are a match for anyone at this level. There is certainly no ceiling on expectations for us, we’re capable of anything if we continue to win games, but what I will say is that we have one of the hardest run-ins with Ipswich away, Middlesbrough away, Hull away, Preston away, some really tough games coming up.

“Femi’s goal was brilliant right enough, but we had terrific performances all over the pitch. The midfield two were excellent, [Jake] Cooper was brilliant, Patto [Anthony Patterson] made a brilliant save in the first half, Camiel Neghli was excellent, and that was Josh Coburn's best performance - he was superb and deserved a goal.”

Oxford remain six points from safety in the Championship with only one win from eight league games under Matt Bloomfield.

He has been talking to Sky Sports:

*If you give away two goals like that you are not going to win games.

"We have to control the things we can control, react, bounce back and get ready for the game (at home to relegation rivals West Brom) on Saturday.

"Our lads are still fighting, creating chances and near moments but not as clear chances as we wanted to.

"We could have been better tonight, not good enough in terms of the standard we want to be at."

Sheffield United lost at home to Coventry in the league for the first time since February 2013.

Their outside play-off hopes look to be over.

Blades boss Chris Wilder has told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"We were really good for a large part of the game but the naivety for the two goals is incredible.

"We should have been up at half-time - the tone and feel of the stadium was really good and we had them on the back foot.

"We got the start in the second-half we wanted but in seven minutes the manner of the goals is so naive.

"I said at half-time I expect us to go and win the game but we have to be careful and be smart that we're not open and we manage the moments that we need to manage well and we didn't manage the moments and I really feel for the players."

Coventry are five points clear at the top of the Championship as they came from behind at Bramall Lane to record a third successive win.

Sky Blues boss Frank Lampard has told BBC CWR:

"They're a good side, on the rise - we had to defend our box in the first half as we weren't properly at our best at all.

"To come back from a goal down and score two really good goals is credit to the boys and we saw the game out.

"We expected the personality of this game and the character of the team was first class.

"We've got to keep our feet on the ground and keep trying to deliver."

  8. We didn't deserve anything - Daviespublished at 22:22 GMT 25 February

    FT: Millwall 3-0 Birmingham

    Birmingham City

Birmingham saw an eight-game unbeaten streak ended by a one-sided defeat at Millwall to lose ground on the play-off places.

Blues manager Chris Davies told BBC Radio WM:

“I said to the players that we have to hold our hands up and say we didn’t deserve anything from that match. We were well below the competitiveness required when you come to a place like this, firstly to keep clean sheets and then to have a go yourself in the game.

“This is a timely reminder of how challenging this league is, and what you have to do in every single game, and we weren’t good enough.

“Their tails were up but it wasn’t [a case of] carving us open, a lot of it was setpieces. The first off a long throw was a great finish to be fair, an outstanding moment of quality.

“The second was a shot off a post and a rebound. These are really sloppy mistakes from our point of view and the third was a wide free kick, so it wasn’t a game where we were having massive problems generally, but when it comes to the basics, the bouncing balls and ugly side to the game, we were short and it cost us.”

Stoke have cut the gap to the play-offs to seven points with tonight's win.

Boss Mark Robins has been talking to Sky Sports:

"There was some really good play, you could see we hadn't won for a while and it got a bit nervy which it didn't need to be.

"We got the ball in good areas, had plenty of opportunities and only managed to take one until the second half.

"We got it over the line and got the three points which is more than welcome.

"We had to dig in a bit at times - we know we're a decent side in possession but we make some really strange decisions which cost us.

"If we can tidy it up a little bit we can be a really good side and we showed that tonight to be fair."

Coventry have a five-point lead at the summit once again after coming from behind to beat Sheffield United, further denting the Blades' already slim play-off hopes.

Millwall bounced back in style from their home humbling by Portsmouth to outclass in-form Birmingham and return to the top-three, leaving Blues five points behind the top-six.

Norwich have an eight point buffer over the drop-zone after seeing-off Sheffield Wednesday in routine fashion, but Oxford's hopes of avoiding joining the Owls in the third tier next season were hit by a 2-1 defeat at Stoke, who just about keep their play-off hopes alive.

Stoke cut the gap to the play-off places to seven points with a hard-earned win over Oxford - their first in eight games.

Lamine Cisse slotted the Potters into the lead only for Ciaron Brown to equalise just before the break.

Will Lankshear headed against the bar for Oxford but seconds later they were behind again through Jesurun Rak-Sakyi's header - his first goal for Stoke.

Oxford remain deep in trouble and are now six games without a win.

This team just continues to deliver.

This is probably one of the hardest places to come to, they may have got fortunate at times, but make no mistake, it was a brilliant performance in the end. They fought really well today, it was a brilliant effort from Coventry.

Those three points are like gold dust, and they should be really pleased with that.

    Millwall were fantastic tonight.

They throughly deserved the win, it wasn't luck. The sending off actually ruined the game, if it was 11v11 I think Millwall may have got a few more goals. To a man they were brilliant.

They've put themselves back in everyone's minds that they're a very good team, they've bounced back well from Saturday.
