Blackburn's win over Preston yesterday evening means Portsmouth have been knocked down a peg and the competition of sixth place gets tighter.

Six teams will duke it out to take the final spot in the play-off places, while West Bromwich Albion and Leicester City have an early opportunity to try and avoid the bottom three. A win for West Brom will also see Sheffield Wednesday relegated despite them not playing today.

The early game featuring the Baggies could have big consequences for the top of the table, too. If Coventry fail to win their West Midlands foes then Middlesbrough could just steal away the top spot... again!

Blackburn sub Yuki Ohashi scored in the fifth minute of time added on to give them a vital win over Lancashire rivals Preston on Friday.

The Japan international rose to head home his first goal since 20 December and give Michael O'Neill a second win from two games in interim charge.

That result moved Blackburn six points clear of the bottom three, albeit having played a game more.

Additionally, it means that a West Brom win over Coventry in one of the day's four early matches would see Sheffield Wednesday relegated today.
