  1. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:01 BST 22 April

    Sheff Utd 0-1 Blackburn

    Frustrating times for Sheffield United.

Skipper Japhet Tanganga holds back Kristi Montgomery and is cautioned by referee Farai Hallam.

  2. goal

GOAL: Sheff Utd 0-1 Blackburnpublished at 19:57 BST 22 April

    Yuki Ohashi (12 mins)

    On the road to safety.

Yuki Ohashi nabs his eighth goal of the season for Blackburn.

He gallops onto a through ball from Ryoya Morishita and scores.

As it stands Oxford United are being relegated tonight.

  3. goal

    Morgan Whittaker (11 mins)

Nice way to make your return to the XI.

Gabriel Otegbayo's pass back to his keeper is sloppy and Morgan Whittaker pounces to slot it into the net.

A horrid way to concede but Whittaker won't mind how he got it. This goal puts them level with promotion rivals Ipswich and Southampton on points.

  4. Postpublished at 19:56 BST 22 April

    Birmingham 0-0 Preston

Preston earn the first attempt on goal in this midtable contest as Alfie Devine takes aim from outside the box.

It drifts wide to avoid causing damage though.

  5. Postpublished at 19:54 BST 22 April

    Sheff Utd 0-0 Blackburn

Blackburn settle things down after that early chance for the home side's Tom Cannon.

A Taylor Gardner-Hickman cross has to be palmed away by Adam Davies in the Blades goal - looked like it may have been sneaking in.

  6. Postpublished at 19:54 BST 22 April

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Sheff Weds

That Charlton goal will please Middlesbrough.

Should Ipswich not pull it back and Boro take a win tonight, the Teesside club will level the points with their promotion rivals and come within three of Millwall in second.

Though the hosts haven't been able to dominate bottom side Wednesday thus far.

In fact, both sides at the Riverside have had the ball in the box but neither have got a shot off just yet.

  7. Postpublished at 19:53 BST 22 April

    Charlton 1-0 Ipswich

Ipswich had to come from behind twice to get a point at home to Middlesbrough on Sunday.

All their away wins this season have come when they have scored first.

They have the worst away record of the sides currently in the top six.

  8. 'Party atmosphere in Cardiff'published at 19:50 BST 22 April

    Cardiff 0-0 Port Vale

    Chris Wathan
BBC Sport Wales at Cardiff City Stadium

Drums, balloons and a party atmosphere at Cardiff City Stadium in the night's only League One game as the home fans enjoy a stress-free evening and the thought of playing back in the Championship next season.

'Tottenham away, ole, ole....' already getting an airing.

Safe to say they're a bit more reserved in the sparse away end here. A few hundred have come to witness what could be Vale's last stand in League One. Still belting out a few songs of their own, mind.

  9. goal

GOAL Charlton 1-0 Ipswichpublished at 19:48 BST 22 April

    Greg Docherty (1 min)

    My word...

Inside 60 seconds, a terrible pass from Ben Johnson allows Tyreece Campbell to run on and have a shot for Charlton.

Christian Walton makes the save but Greg Docherty tucks in the rebound for his first league goal in over a year.

Charlton are safe as things stand.

Millwall fans are cheering as things stand.

  10. Postpublished at 19:47 BST 22 April

    Sheff Utd 0-0 Blackburn

A sprightly start from the home side as Tom Cannon hits a shot wide.

An early wake-up call for Blackburn.

Sheffield United make three changes from the side which won at Watford at the weekend.

Femi Seriki, Callum O'Hare and Andre Brooks are on the bench with Tom Cannon,

Ki-Jana Hoever and Tahith Chong starting.

Blackburn bring Adam Forshaw into their side for the benched Moussa Baradji.

Todd Cantwell and Scott Wharton are back from injury and get substitute berths.

  14. O'Neill's mission almost completepublished at 19:39 BST 22 April

Sheff Utd v Blackburn (19:45 BST)

Michael O'Neill watching Blackburn from the sidelinesImage source, Getty Images

When Michael O'Neill took the Blackburn job in February his mission was clear - keep Rovers in the Championship.

From being third from bottom he has lost only four of his 13 games in charge to take the Lancashire side to the brink of safety.

A win at Bramall Lane tonight will give them a comfortable final day at home to Leicester, probably with thoughts of 'there but for the grace of God...'

Whether O'Neill takes on the job full-time, leaving his Northern Ireland post in the process, remains to be seen but he has almost done what was required.

The same could be said of Sheffield United's Chris Wilder.

Invited back a matter of months after defeat in the play-off final, to pick up the mess left by Ruben Selles, there were even thoughts of a late play-off run such was the turnaround in form but Blades fans can just be content there is no pressure for the remaining three games.

  15. Whittaker starts for Boro but Wednesday's Charles misses outpublished at 19:37 BST 22 April

Middlesbrough v Sheff Weds (19:45 BST)

    Middlesbrough XIImage source, Opta

Morgan Whittaker returns to the starting line-up for Middlesbrough as boss Kim Hellberg's only change.

The winger made his return from injury on the weekend to play just one minute in the draw of their Ipswich but is in from the get go tonight.

Alex Gilbert isn't named in the squad but Leo Castledine is back on the bench after a four game absence with injury.

There will be no Pierce Charles donning the Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeping kit as the stopper is ruled out with a knock.

Murphy Cooper replaces him in goal as part of the side's four changes which also sees Marvelous Nakamba making his first start for the club.

Jarvis Thornton and Charlie McNeill make up the XI as Nathaniel Chalobah, Olaf Kobacki and Jamal Lowe move to the bench.

  16. Boro maybe, probably throwing away promotion hopespublished at 19:35 BST 22 April

Middlesbrough v Sheffield Wednesday (19:45 BST)

A close up of Luke Ayling playing for MiddlesbroughImage source, Getty Images

"Maybe, probably," Middlesbrough right-back Luke Ayling responded after he was asked whether Boro have lost out on a top two finish.

They have failed to win any of their past seven games to tumble from second place to fifth and worse still, only three points above seventh placed Hull City.

They need a win and soon. But fortunately for them, they face a side who are in short supply of their own.

Just once have Sheffield Wednesday won a game this season, though they have picked up three successive draws across their past three games and are only three points away from taking themselves out of the negative after their hefty 18 point deduction.

Still, Ayling isn't worried about what's happening beneath the club. It's still about trying to catch those above.

"We're not thinking about the teams below us," he said. "We're still looking up; we've got nine points to try to win, and we'll be trying to do that."

Read more on what Ayling had to say here.

  17. Eight changes for Charlton; Two for Townpublished at 19:33 BST 22 April

    Charlton v Ipswich (19:45 BST)

Charlton are without on-loan Ipswich midfielder Harry Clarke tonight as he cannot play against his parent club and there are a whopping seven further changes.

Goalkeeper Will Mannion drops to the bench along with Reece Burke, Sonny Carey, Conor Coady, Luke Chambers, Matty Godden and Lyndon Dykes.

Into the side come Thomas Kaminski, Collins Sichenje, Macaulay Gillesphey, Jayden Fevrier, Conor Coventry, Joe Rankin-Costello, Charlie Kelman and Tyreece Campbell.

Kieran McKenna is getting a reputation as a bit of a tinkerman but the Ipswich boss makes just two changes from the side which drew with Middlesbrough on Sunday.

Leif Davis is missing from the squad because of a hamstring injury and Marcelino Nunez is a substitute with Ben Johnson and Anis Mehmeti starting.

  18. Ipswich keen not to blink firstpublished at 19:31 BST 22 April

    Charlton v Ipswich (19:45 BST)

Jack Clarke celebrating his equaliser against MiddlesbroughImage source, Getty Images

Like a pair of gunslingers in the Wild West, Ipswich and Millwall have been involved in their own personal battle for second place.

The Lions have invariably found themselves playing before Town and are yet to slip-up.

Ipswich have done enough so far to keep up and they do have that extra game to play against Southampton next week with Millwall waiting for the Suffolk outfit to blink first.

But first Kieran McKenna's side must deal with Charlton to move back into the automatic promotion spots after Millwall's win at Stoke last night.

"It's in our hands; it's up to us. We know the scenario we're in, we know it's down to us and we can't rely on anybody else doing us any favours," top scorer Jack Clarke told BBC Radio Suffolk after his penalty rescued a point against Middlesbrough on Sunday.

A draw will guarantee Ipswich at least a play-off place but they have bigger fish to fry.

Standing in their way tonight is an Addicks team for whom a point will be enough to secure Championship football for next season.

They are the only side in with a chance of doubling Ipswich having won impressively 3-0 at Portman Road in October.

Plenty to play for, for both of these sides.

  19. Double change for Blues; North End make fivepublished at 19:29 BST 22 April

    Birmingham v Preston (19:45 BST)

    Birmingham City XIImage source, Opta

Birmingham make a double change with Ethan Laird and Paik Seung-Ho joining the XI.

Bright Osayi-Samuel and Jhon Solis are available from the bench.

Milutin Osmajic leads the line for Preston North End tonight as part of five changes from the side that lost to West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.

Pol Valentin, Andrija Vukcevic, Jordan Thompson and Liam Lindsay all join the striker in the starting line-up.

Jordan Storey, Andrew Moran and Daniel Jebbison are amongst the substitutes, though both Lewis Gibson and Ben Whiteman don't make the trip.

  20. Can a game with no ramification still thrill?published at 19:27 BST 22 April

    Birmingham v Preston (19:45 BST)

There's not a thing on the line for either Birmingham City or Preston North End this evening.

No relegation to fight, no promotion to push for - in fact, North End boss Paul Heckingbottom was dismayed with his squad after their loss to West Bromwich Albion last time out for lacking fight.

    But pride counts for something.

Only once this season have North End won two successive away games, having won on their trip to Charlton earlier this month, and in both their past two games against Blues, they came home 1-0 losers.

Will the side "turn up and compete" like their manager asks of them, or will this be a game to forget?
