  1. Tight contest?published at 19:25 GMT 21 February

    St Mirren v Motherwell (19:30)

Despite the six places between them in the league table, it's honours even between St Mirren and Motherwell this season.

It was goalless the last time Well visited Paisley on league duty in August.

St Mirren then upset the form book with a stunning 4-1 win in November's League Cup semi-final at Hampden before going on to lift the trophy.

However, Motherwell gained revenge in the first game of 2026 with a 2-0 Premiership win at Fir Park to leave the Buddies without a win in the latest seven meetings between the sides.

Indeed, Well are unbeaten in their latest three visits to SMiSA Stadium, all without conceding a goal, and have suffered just one defeat in their last 11 league visits.

  2. 'It's like having three new players'published at 19:23 GMT 21 February

    St Mirren v Motherwell (19:30)

St Mirren manager Stephen Robinson tells BBC Scotland: "We’ve obviously struggled to pick up results in the league since the cup final without Mark O'Hara.

"We’ve got Keanu Baccus back on the bench tonight and Alex Gogic back in his preferred position. It’s like three new players.

"It’s a huge boost and hopefully we can get a good performance and result.

"We’ve managed to get through in the cup competitions, which have been very kind to us this season. We’re one game from another semi-final as well, but in the league it’s been a struggle to gain points and find form.

"We had players missing who play a big part, but we’ve also struggled to perform even without them. There is a reset and light at the end of the tunnel with bodies back in and having options to change things."

  3. Phillips tied uppublished at 19:21 GMT 21 February

    St Mirren v Motherwell (19:30)

This is St Mirren's first game since triggering a one-year contract extension for midfielder Killian Phillips.

Clubs from Major League Soccer are reportedly showing interest in the 23-year-old United States-born Republic of Ireland cap.

  4. Strong home form vs strong awaypublished at 19:19 GMT 21 February

    St Mirren v Motherwell (19:30)

After two away defeats in a row, St Mirren are back at home, where they have only lost once in their last six outings.

Motherwell had their eight-game unbeaten run ended when they were knocked out the Scottish Cup by Aberdeen on Tuesday, but that was only their second defeat in their latest nine games on the road.

  5. Fraser a surprise omission?published at 19:17 GMT 21 February

    St Mirren v Motherwell (19:30)

    John Rankin
Former Hibernian & Dundee United midfielder on BBC Sportsound

Getting Gogic back into the back line, he is better when the game is in front of him.

Mark O'Hara coming back allows him to drop back, but I am surpised that Marcus Fraser has dropped out.

  6. Small changespublished at 19:14 GMT 21 February

    St Mirren v Motherwell (19:30)

Motherwell started the day in fourth and St Mirren in 10th - and that's where they remain after the early kick-offs.

The visitors were always going to remain there no matter the scorelines elsewhere.

However, Dundee's win away to Aberdeen means St Mirren cannot now overtake the Dark Blues even with a victory and find themselves only two points clear of Kilmarnock after the second-bottom side drew away to Dundee United.

  7. Well changes understandeablepublished at 19:10 GMT 21 February

    St Mirren v Motherwell (19:30)

    Leanne Crichton
Former Scotland midfielder on BBC Sportsound

I think it's a strong team, but what we have seen from Motherwell is that they are changeable.

The amount of energy the midweek game would have taken, especially going down to nine men, I am not surprised there have been so many changes.

  8. O'Hara starts, Baccus on bench for St Mirrenpublished at 19:08 GMT 21 February

    St Mirren v Motherwell (19.30

St Mirren captain Mark O'Hara made his return from injury off the bench in last weekend's defeat by Hibs and he is back in the starting line-up against Motherwell.

That allows Alex Gogic to step back from midfield into defence and centre-half Marcus Fraser drops to the bench.

Midfielder Roland Idowu replaces forward Dan Nlundulu in the only other change.

Meanwhile, Keanu Baccus is named among the substitutes as the Australia midfielder returns to the squad after 10 weeks out with a hamstring injury.

  9. Welsh and Watt return in six changespublished at 19:05 GMT 21 February

    St Mirren v Motherwell (19.30)

Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou makes a raft of changes after the midweek Scottish Cup defeat by Aberdeen.

Calum Ward is back in goal, on-loan Celtic centre-half Stephen Welsh returns after being cup-tied and is joined in defence by Emmanuel Longelo, while Elliot Watt and Callum Slattery are back in midfield and Ibrahim Said is up front.

Matthew Connelly, Tom Sparrow, Liam Gordon, Regan Charles-Cook and Eythor Bjorgolfsson drop to the bench, while midfielder Lukas Fadinger misses out as he completes his league suspension.

  14. Goodwin bemoans defensive lapsespublished at 17:57 GMT 21 February

    FT: Dundee United 1-1 Kilmarnock

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin tells BBC Scotland: "The end result feels like a bit of a defeat given the circumstances of how we concede the equaliser, and also given the opportunities that we had during the game.

"I thought it should have been a fairly comfortable and straightforward win for us but unfortunately I’m stood here talking about dropping points from a leading position again, and not being able to see out the game.

    "That’s the main frustration.

"I can’t say we don’t work on that sort of situation in training, defending the box. I’ve tried numerous combinations in the back three and I have to say the back three for 90 minutes defended the box brilliantly. Everything Kilmarnock had thrown at us from direct balls, set plays, balls in from wide areas, I thought we defended them really well.

"Whether it was a lapse in concentration near the end of the game, I don’t know. But it’s criminal for us to have one of Kilmarnock’s forwards wander into the penalty box unopposed and get a free header. We need to be more aggressive and there needs to be a challenge there to ensure we finish the game with all three points.

"I thought over the course of the game, playing against a Kilmarnock team that’s been scoring goals at will of late, we managed well. We managed the conditions better.

"Had we won the game 2-0 or 3-0 I don’t think there would have been any complaints but we haven’t seen it through and dropped another couple of points from a winning position."

  15. Aberdeen 'stopped playing' - Levenpublished at 17:48 GMT 21 February

    FT: Aberdeen 2-3 Dundee

Aberdeen interim manager Peter Leven tells BBC Scotland: "Really frustrating. I thought we started really well, score a goal. Then score another goal [Nisbet's disallowed strike from Lyall Cameron's free kick].

"It looked like he [referee Steven McLean] put his whistle to his mouth, dropped it, watched the goal go in and then brought it back. Lyall says he didn't say wait for the whistle so we're confused on that one.

"We stopped playing football, they equalise and then there's the red card. We need to be better at dealing with a long ball. But he's cut across him, I'm not sure what he can do and I don't know why we're punished twice. But we've got to take it on the chin.

"I thought at times we were good in the second half. We get it back to 2-2 and it's got to be a good point in that game. We turn the ball over too easy, we've got to go up the line and gain territory. But we gave it away and don't defend the shot.

"We've got to take out chances and go two or three-nil up. But we get a wee bit nervy and stop doing what we did early on. That's two red cards in two games - it's not good enough."

  16. 'So much to like about Kilmarnock right now'published at 17:45 GMT 21 February

    FT: Dundee United 1-1 Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock manager Neil McCann tells BBC Scotland: "For sheer character, determination, grit and bravery they got a really good point.

"It shows what this group feel about themselves that when we go down to 10 men they are still pouring forward in the latter stages to try and get the winner.

"I’m so glad for all the fans that travelled up to watch us on a horrible day. They stayed right to the end and I’m really pleased for them that they got something to show for it.

"There’s so much to like about Kilmarnock right now. I’m so pleased for Marley Watkins as well. I didn’t think I was going to see him this season because he got a really bad ankle injury but it typifies the spirit that they are pushing themselves to get on to the pitch.

"It was a wonderful goal, well-constructed and a great header. All round we can be quite pleased with a point."

  17. 'Fans understand this is new territory for us'published at 17:41 GMT 21 February

    FT: Hearts 1-0 Falkirk

Hearts head coach Derek McInnes tells BBC Scotland: "I thought we started okay but we didn't knit the game together the way we'd hoped. There was a bit nervousness and I need to thank the fans because they didn't add to that. They understand this is new territory for us.

"Our out of possession stuff was better in the second half and we had the better chances, more shots. It's a pity we couldn't get the second goal but sometimes 1-0 is enough, especially at this time of the season.

"We can't get too obsessed with what other teams are doing. As soon as you're depending on others, I think that's a mistake. You deal with your own business as best you can."
