I can't see this 'gulf in class' that was mentioned earlier. Seems an even game to me.

  6. 'It wasn't the greatest attempt at a punch clearance from Ramsdale'published at 13:23 GMT 22 March

    Newcastle 1-1 Sunderland

    Alan Smith
Former Arsenal forward on Sky Sports

Well, it wasn't the greatest attempt at a punch clearance from Ramsdale. He couldn't clear his lines. He had a chance to get some height and distance but he couldn't quite manage it, it was a bit of a flap, and Talbi is there to pick up the bits and pieces.

Sunderland haven't had a great record from corners this season, but that comes in handy indeed.

I'm sure Newcastle go to sleep at half time and not listen to a word that's being said. Every game it's the same. WAKE UP!!!

Those Sunderland fans high in the stand that their team have just scored in front of have their moment to go crazy.

Dan Burn had done so well to stop Brian Brobbey's chested effort going in, only for Chemsdine Talbi to drill in the rebound from inside the six-yard box.

The Sunderland fans are now the ones being heard, although the Newcastle supporters are now trying to rouse their heroes.

It's going to be a lively last half hour.

  16. 'Illogical' for Sunderland to play out from the backpublished at 13:09 GMT 22 March

    Newcastle 1-0 Sunderland

    Danny Murphy
    Match of the Day pundit

I don't think there's anything wrong with playing out from the back in any game if you've got the players to do it. Sunderland are missing seven or eight players and Newcastle’s strength is pressing so I always think that early in the game you’ve got to make good decisions.

You've got O’Nien playing a centre back who doesn't normally play there and hasn't played that many games. He was trying to hit balls on his weak foot, where the goalkeeper stood with him.

It just seems illogical, but we see it so often, I think players have lost a little bit of individuality in making their own choices, maybe just doing what they think the coaches want them to do. Maybe it wasn't the coach, maybe it was a moment of madness, I don't know. But the reality is probably more than ever this season we've seen teams constantly do this. when just the atmosphere, the circumstances, don't put you in the best position to do it.

So I'm not a fan of it and I think I think away at Newcastle is probably one of the hardest places in the Prem to go and play out from the back early in the game.
