On Malick Thiaw's disallowed goal:

The match officials were spot on regarding the disallowed goal from Thiaw. Unfortunately for Newcastle, Jacob Murphy was standing in an offside position in front of Melker Ellborg the Sunderland keeper and in direct physical contact with him.

In law, the goal had to be disallowed. It was an excellent decision to spot this in real time (without the need for VAR) by Anthony Taylor and assistant referee Gary Beswick.

If Newcastle fail to win this match, they will have dropped more points from winning positions (21) than any other team in the Premier League this season (currently on 19).

Anthony Gordon has been pretty quiet since he opened the scoring but he has the chance to get a shot on goal here as he moves away from two defenders inside the box, but blasts well over.

Sunderland make their first change of the game with six minutes remaining.

Habib Diarra is replaced by Enzo Le Fée.

William Osula came on a little earlier for Harvey Barnes and he is prevented breaking through from his own half by Omar Alderete, who is booked as a result.

It's such a crowded box. Anthony Taylor has seen something which not a lot of people in this stadium did. Murphy is certainly offside and interfering with the keeper. Sunderland got away with one there.

Just over 10 minutes remaining. Sunderland are yet to make a change but Newcastle look a bit more energised following their changes.

Newcastle fans are celebrating as Malick Thiaw heads in from a corner, but the goal is disallowed! Jacob Murphy is blocking off Melker Ellborg and Anthony Taylor chalks off the goal. Murphy was also in an offside position.
