Millwall manager Alex Neil did not hide his frustration as the Lions lost successive Championship games for the first time under the Scot in their 2-0 loss at Ewood Park.

Neil told BBC Radio London: "That was arguably as poor as it's been. I don't think we competed well enough.

"Our decision-making with the ball and without the ball was arguably as poor as it's been.

"If you look at both goals, the first goal is extremely disappointing. We spoke about it all week and then the second goal was a mistake from us. That sort of typified the first-half display.

"I'm not focusing on the timing of the goals, I'm focusing on what we put into the match in the first half and I thought that it was substandard compared to what we're used to doing. That was probably my biggest frustration.

"In the second half, I thought we competed. I thought we lacked quality at times, though. I didn't think, although we had a bit of pressure and we kept them in there, we didn't have enough clear-cut opportunities in the game."

Valerien Ismael reflects on Rovers' first win in six ahead of the Christmas period.

Blackburn enjoyed only a second home win of the season in beating Millwall at lunchtime and head coach Valerien Ismael recognised the importance of it.

He told BBC Radio Lancashire: "It's always important to get the three points and we spoke about that during the week. We know that 2025 has been a tough year at home.

"We've always kept going and we came into this game with a big desire, to play more forward and to be on the front foot.

"We had a little bit of luck with the second goal, but when you put pressure on the back four, you force the mistake.

"The second half was all about staying stable and I though the boys did that perfectly. I never had the feeling that Millwall would come back into the game.

"We gave some debuts to the academy boys, so I think it was a great day for Blackburn Rovers."

The Saints boss felt three points was deserved against Championship leaders Coventry

Southampton had to settle for a point despite playing against 10 men for virtually the entirety of the second period against Championship leaders Coventry.

Nathan Wood equalised for the Saints and boss Tonda Eckert told BBC Radio Solent:

"We played to win in the end, it's something that we keep emphasising with the players. We play to win and that's the most important thing.

"Today it's disappointment because I think the chances were there to come away with three points.

"I think they kept a back four for quite long after they got the red card and it was a little bit easier because we had space then on the sides to drive.

"But when they went to a back-five, it was a little bit different. I still think we got in some very promising positions. Maybe not enough personnel in the final moments but it's a good team and we managed to play the whole game in their half.

"I think there were more than enough chances to win the game in the end."

Coventry City head coach Frank Lampard reflects on the 1-1 draw with Southampton

Coventry played virtually the whole of the second period with 10 men after Jay Dasilva was sent off before Southampton equalised.

The Sky Blues had led at the break through Ephron Mason-Clark's header.

Coventry boss Frank Lampard told BBC CWR:

"At half-time, I wouldn't have said that [it was a good point] because we were fantastic in the first half.

"Considering the game prep we've had with people falling ill in the last couple of days and some players have played slightly below par as well but you wouldn't have noticed that.

"Then the context of the red card, the decisions in the first half, but our spirit, our effort, our desire to try and hang on to what we had at the end of the game was very special.

"I'm delighted with the performance, I'm delighted with the point considering we had 10 men in the second half."

    • Leicester City manager Marti Cifuentes suffered a 4-1 defeat against his former club Queens Park Rangers, the Foxes’ largest league defeat against the Rs since April 1986 (1-4), and the first time they’ve conceded 4+ goals outside of the top-flight since April 2014 (1-4 v Brighton & Hove Albion).
    • Birmingham City received their third Championship red card of the season, more than any other side, while it was the first time Tommy Doyle was sent off in what was his 125th appearance across the Championship and Premier League
    • Sheffield United are now unbeaten across their last five Championship home games (W3 D2) after losing five of their first six this season (W1); the Blades’ 3-0 win today was the first time they’ve beaten Birmingham City by multiple goals since November 2001 (4-0).
    • Hull City have now won three successive Championship games for just the second time in 2025, with their 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion today just their second against the Baggies across their last 12 league meetings (D2 L8).
    • Timed at 95:42, Will Keane's equaliser for Preston today was the club's latest strike in an EFL game since Boxing Day 2020 when Alan Browne struck the winner vs Derby County (95:59).

    FT: QPR 4-1 Leicester

    Jacob Culshaw
BBC Final Score at Loftus Road

That’s now nine games without a clean sheet for Leicester under Martí Cifuentes.

The most alarming aspect today wasn’t simply conceding four goals, but the manner of them. Three came from crosses.

Clearly targeted by Julien Stephan as part of QPR’s game plan, who were dominant throughout.

Leicester exposed repeatedly out wide. It was far too easy for Rangers to deliver balls into the box, with really little resistance from the Leicester midfield and backline.

But the bigger picture for the Foxes under Cifuentes this season. It's one step forward, two steps back. Again.

An impressive win against Ipswich last week raised optimism, but it was completely missing today.

The pressure has once again returned to Cifuentes and his future.

    How does this play out?

    FT: QPR 4-1 Leicester

    Stephen Clemence
Former Leicester captain on BBC Radio Leicester

The positive is they were much better in the second half, but the game was done in the first half.

If Leicester are going to do anything this season they can't come away from home and just roll over like they did at times in the first half. The ball came into Leicester's box far too easily, and then when it was in we didn't defend it well enough.

Away from home you have got to do the basics well in the Championship and unfortunately today Leicester didn't do that.

It is a big job for Marti Cifuentes to go in the dressing room and lift the players, and get them ready for the Christmas period as they have got a massive game against Watford.

A lot of movement outside the top two today.

In saying that Coventry have extended their lead at the top to six points with a draw at Southampton while Middlesbrough lost at Bristol City.

Ipswich move ominously up to third place and Hull City are into fourth - those two replace Preston and Millwall respectively who slip to fifth and sixth.

Look at the sides queuing-up just outside the top six.

QPR won a fourth successive home league game for the first time in eight years to go seventh with Watford and Bristol City also on an upward curve.

There is no change in the bottom three

  14. 'A brilliant, brilliant display from Bristol City'published at 17:06 GMT 20 December 2025

    FT: Bristol City 2-0 Middlesbrough

    Gary Owers
Former Sunderland & Bristol City midfielder on BBC Radio Bristol

What a brilliant, brilliant display from Bristol City.

Defensively they were great and, I have to say, I have seen them have more of the ball this season against teams.

I have seen them pass the ball better and create more chances, but what a shift those players put in. I think the turning point was going to a back five and there was no way through for Boro.

That was a really enjoyable match, really entertaining and a great three points for City.

Oli McBurnie's penalty in first half injury-time wins the day for the Tigers, who climb up to fourth.

A NINTH straight defeat on the road for West Brom, who should have gone in front before McBurnie's goal and ended with 10 after Alfie Gilchrist saw red.

The Baggies are stuck in 16th in a season that seems to be going nowhere.

Ipswich needed three points from this game and they have duly collected them against the Championship's bottom side.

Three goals from Cedric Kipre, Jaden Philogene and sub Jack Clarke are enough to see off the Owls, who wobbled them when Liam Cooper made it 2-1.

The pre-season favourites are up to third, five points behind Middlesbrough and it feels like they still haven't really got going this season.
