It's Everton's first game since the takeover of the club was announced and the Friedkin Group coming to town for this afternoon's match against Chelsea.

Incoming executive chairman Marc Watts (pictured above) and other representatives of the group will be in attendance in the directors' box as a new era dawns on the Toffees.

Mired in chaos for so long, there is a chance for a fresh start, having also been handed the keys to their new state-of-the-art stadium on Friday.

Manager Sean Dyche said in his pre-match news conference the group are "fully supportive" of his team and staff, but the 53-year-old did mention the caveat of having to win games.

Everton lie in 16th place, just three points above the relegation zone, and could fall a place if Leicester beat Wolves.

Everton boss Sean Dyche, speaking to Premier League Productions: "We knew it was getting closer [takeover], we got a heads up with that. The guys came in and met us, it was quite casual really.

On Dwight McNeil's absence: "He's still settling his knee down, we don't think it's too drastic. We know we'll have to perform well against a good side in Chelsea. They're a good outfit, we've seen that. Look at their league position.

"We've only lost two in 11 ourselves. We know we need to be more clinical in attacking phases but we like what we're doing in defence."

Chris: The idea of Rashford leaving makes me sad, as I think it would for most Man Utd supporters. Seeing him succeed in a United shirt is fantastic, but he has become a player who attracts headlines for the wrong reasons and I think he needs a fresh start elsewhere. It will not be nice to see him go - however, if we get a decent fee, it is a genuine win-win for the club and the player.

It's fair to say Fulham chairman Shahid Khan is loving how the club are progressing on and off the pitch.

Writing in the matchday programme, he says: "Christmas is always a wonderful time to pause and reflect for all we have to enjoy here at Fulham Football Club. When you combine the occasion with your beloved club and add the warmth and charm of Craven Cottage in December, it's as good as it gets in sport.

"I've never felt better at this time of the year in what's now my 12th holiday season serving as your chairman. We've faced 16 of our Premier League opponents and virtually without exception we've been outstanding, producing performances and results that have earned the respect of the league and our supporters alike.

"Marco Silva and his staff always prepare our squad to play attractive and forward-thinking football and it's a joy to behold."

The club's redeveloped Riverside Stand is also close to completion and Khan added: "This is also an occasion for me to thank everyone who makes Fulham one of the most beloved and respected clubs in all of football."

After being stripped of the captaincy following his post match wrestle with Jarrod Bowen earlier this month, I can see why people may jump to the conclusion the midfielder's future at the club could be in doubt. Wolves confirm though his absence is due to "injury".

We've heard Ivan Juric is quite a combustible character - quietly spoken but he's got it in him where he can go off the handle a bit with players and people around him.

I believe when he went to Roma in his first press conference, he wrote down the name of every reporter who asked him a question so I'm waiting for my target on my back!

SRB: If the new manager can instill some confidence in the team, a few early wins might not be out of the question. You don't have to play well to avoid relegation, just less badly than three other teams! Saints can avoid the drop.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim was making a point last Sunday when he left Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho out of the squad to face Manchester City.

The noise around Rashford in the immediate aftermath partially explained his absence from the Tottenham game that followed.

However, given United lost to Spurs and injuries to Mason Mount and Victor Lindelof mean youngster Toby Collyer is on the bench today, there seems to be something semi-permanent about Rashford's omission this afternoon.

I am not convinced Ruben Amorim wants to keep talking about it but there are bound to be questions again for the United chief later.

I feel sorry for Marcus Rashford. I know there's that little kid in him who loves playing football and loves the club.

It has been a difficult period for him and a hard one to deal with. In hindsight he will look back and think, 'I might have been able to handle it all a bit better.'

It is clear that he's not enjoying football. He has to detach himself from the outside noise and he has to get back to enjoying playing football again.

The word from Manchester United officials this afternoon is Matthijs de Ligt is still ill - which is why he didn't play at Tottenham and Marcus Rashford's omission is purely due to selection.

A new era begins at Southampton.

Following a miserable start to the campaign after returning to the Premier League via the Championship play-off final at Wembley in May, boss Russell Martin was sacked on Sunday evening.

It had come after a home horror show saw them humiliated by Tottenham, losing 5-0 with all the goals coming in the first half and fans streaming out of St Mary's long before the end.

The Saints have moved quickly by appointing former Roma boss and ex-Croatia international Ivan Juric on Saturday for his first job outside Italy.

He is not expected to take charge of today's game at Fulham so it will just be a watching brief for him as interim boss Simon Rusk is in the dugout, as he did for the 2-1 midweek loss to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

Southampton only have five points from 16 matches, are already certain to be bottom at Christmas, nine points adrift of safety and seemingly needing a miracle.

Will Juric like what he sees or will he be left wondering just what he has signed himself up for?

What sort of music will Southampton be playing in the dressing room before today's game with Fulham?

If new boss Ivan Juric has any say, it could be pretty loud.

"I started at 14 years old with Metallica and Megadeth, then I moved on to more aggressive things," said Juric in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine.

"Death metal is my passion, bands like Napalm Death, Obituary and Carcass."

A big day for Southampton, the Premier League's bottom club, who have announced Croat Ivan Juric as their new manager. Juric, 49, was most recently manager of Roma, but was sacked in November after just 12 matches in charge.

"I think it's a really big challenge but I'm very optimistic because I saw a team that can do better," Juric, who takes over a side nine points from safety, said.

"It's important to immediately be connected with the fans. I want an aggressive team and I think that fans of Southampton will like that."

Juric is unlikely to take charge of today's game at Fulham, meaning his first match in the Saints dugout is set to be at home to West Ham on 26 December.

Wolves

There's a huge game near the bottom of the table as 17th-placed Leicester host 19th-placed Wolves, who have new boss Vitor Pereira in charge for the first time.

"Every time football surprises me, because someone has come and done something different," said former Porto boss Pereira.

"Pep Guardiola came and did something different, Jurgen Klopp did something different and Arne Slot is now. I'm a very creative guy and I need to express myself. Football is to paint and create something new.

"I came here to create something new and beautiful."

It is a great Christmas present for Everton fans, one that was a long time coming. We can draw a line under previous ownerships and move on into a brighter future, hopefully with the new stadium on the horizon.

The one thing we can guarantee as a fanbase is that we will be right behind them. There is no doubt about that. This club is desperate for a lift.
