Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been accused of ‘not reading the room’ over the decision to increase ticket prices to £66 with no concessions.

Across the Premier League, a growing number of supporters are unhappy with price rises.

United, Manchester City, Everton and Liverpool recently joined forces to protest against increases at their respective clubs. And some will set aside the deep antipathy between United and Liverpool to highlight their concerns ahead of the two clubs’ meeting at Anfield on 5 January.

This is not what was anticipated on Christmas Eve last year when it was confirmed Ratcliffe had reached an agreement to buy part of the club from the hated Glazer family.

Ratcliffe took his stake to 28.94% with a further $100m (£79.43m) investment this week. However, his time has been marked by a succession of unpopular decisions, including slashing well established staff perks and making 250 staff redundant. The price rises – which apply to tickets for Premier League matches that have not already been sold – is the latest.

“Everyday something else seems to be coming out,” said Steve Crompton, of the FC58 fans group.

“I don’t think Ratcliffe is reading the room very well. For all his bravado about putting the Manchester back into Manchester United, he is doing quite the opposite.

“It feels to a match going fan like they are putting the squeeze on us because of the mess the club is in. But they knew what a mess the club was in when he took this partnership. Are things worse than he realised? We are not naïve. This £66 is not going to write off £1bn worth of debt. The damage he is doing for insignificant gains financially is bordering on the ridiculous.”

I have to say, I don't think Everton could have had a better manager than Sean Dyche, in the circumstances they were in. 99% of managers would have landed them in the Championship with the shenanigans at the club. The owe him a lot imo.

It is less than a month ago that Fulham suffered their worst result of the season, a bad day at the cottage as they slumped to a 4-1 loss to struggling Wolves.

But what a response it has been from Marco Silva's side since. A 1-1 draw with Tottenham, a 3-1 home win against Brighton and then draws with Arsenal and away at Liverpool.

After today comes a tasty west-London derby against rivals Chelsea on Boxing Day and they could find themselves in the top six when that match comes around.

A three-goal victory today could take them sixth in the table and above reigning champions Manchester City at Christmas and any Fulham fan would surely have taken that at the start of the season.

Fulham were in the Championship three seasons ago but supporters' hopes are rising that a return to European football is possible after last playing in the Europa League in 2011-12 and reaching the final of the same competition in a remarkable run back in 2009-10.

I'm not sure Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has been entirely comfortable with all the focus that has been on Marcus Rashford over the past week or so.

Amorim has been peppered with questions about the England forward since he left him out of his squad for the Manchester derby last week.

The former Sporting boss gives the impression of wanting to concentrate on the collective, rather than individuals, as emphasised by his latest set of programme notes, which were written before the defeat at Tottenham on Thursday.

"You could see how much it (win over Manchester City) meant to all of us in the moment - not just the players on the pitch and our fans in the away section but also our substitutes and everyone on our bench when Amad's finish went into the goal," he said.

"Everyone could see how much we all care.It was great to see everyone sharing in that moment together. We have to work as one if we are to move forward in our project, so we share our ups and downs as a group."

Fulham

Fulham boss Marco Silva on facing bottom of the table Southampton: "Five weeks ago we played Wolves at home when they were in a bad moment and we didn't win the game. We have spoken about the approach for this game. Southampton have lots of Premier League quality."

Leicester City

Leicester boss Ruud van Nistelrooy started off brightly, winning his first match and drawing the second but the Foxes suffered a demoralising 4-0 defeat at Newcastle last week.

Today, they face fellow strugglers Wolves who have just appointed Vitor Pereira.

"The timing of the sacking of Gary O'Neil could not have been worse," said Kate Blakemore, from Leicester Till I Die TV.

"But we can only hope that we have most of our starting XI back and that any potential new manager bounce for Wolves is delayed.

"It will be a spectacle for sure, as the two worst defensive teams in the league go toe to toe."
