Good start for Vale! Must be a bit depressing getting whacked 7-0 by Chelsea but they still showed fight which is what they will need in these desperate times!

    Port Vale 1-0 Rotherham

Rotherham have failed to score in each of their past five away league games - losing the lot as well.

Can they get back into this?

    There is plenty of time.

Rotherham were at absolutely sixes and sevens at the back there.

They should have made the first clearance and then the two centre backs were awful.

    Horrendous defending.

    Back with a bang.

Ethon Archer has a shot blocked but there is Ryan Croasdale, back from injury, to crack home a nicely controlled effort from the edge of the area.

Goal number three of the season for Croasdale.

The pitch at Vale Park is a bit patchy in places which gives it that end-of-season sort of look.

It is also quiet inside the stadium - both sets of fans resigned to their fate?

Bromley have named the same side which snatched a late draw at Barnet on Friday.

In search of the win which will guarantee survival, Shreswbury head coach Gavin Cowan is forced into one change with Will Boyle missing out and Tom Anderson replacing him.

It has not been a great 18 months for Shrewsbury Town and their supporters.

Relegation and finishing bottom of League One has been followed by another season of struggle - in that period they have won only 20 of their 87 league games.

Former defender Gavin Cowan became the fourth permanent Shrews boss in 14 months when appointed in January and has taken 22 points from his 14 games in charge, as many as they had managed in their previous 27.

Victory at leaders Bromley tonight will secure their EFL status because of remaining fixtures involving three sides below them - Newport, Barrow and Harrogate.

"There's no expectation on us, it's all on them so it's up to us to go into the lion's den and show what we're made of," said Cowan going into tonight's game.

Expectation or not, he would surely like their future sorted sooner rather than later.

Like ducks to water, Bromley have been swimming along very nicely in the EFL lakes.

An 11th-place finish in their debut season last year has been followed by something a lot better.

Built on a so-far unbeaten home record, Andy Woodman's side are leading the race to League One although there has been a wobble over the past week with a defeat by struggling Barrow and then requiring a 101st-minute equaliser at Barnet on Good Friday.

"Shrewsbury are a decent team and we've got to make sure we're at it and get three points, then we have got one pinky-toe in promotion - we're not there yet but we'd have one little toe there," said Woodman.

Recent history shows Bromley tend to take giant leaps rather than small steps but with games to come against second-placed MK Dons and Cambridge United, who are fourth, over the next nine days, tonight takes on even more significance.

Victory for Bromley tonight would leave them needing a maximum of six points from their remaining four games to guarantee promotion.

A win for Shrewsbury would guarantee them safety with Newport still having to play both Barrow and Harrogate.

Port Vale boss Jon Brady swaps out three players from Saturday's FA Cup exit at the hands of Chelsea.

Funso Ojo is out while Connor Hall and Ben Waine are among the susbstitutes.

Ethon Archer, Ryah Croasdale and George Hall get the nod to start.

Rotherham boss Lee Clark makes three changes to the side which held Stevenage to a goalless draw on Friday.

Lenny Agbaire and Daniel Gore are missing while Jack Holmes is on the bench.

Into the side come Ar'Jany Martha, Jamal Baptiste and Josh Benson.

  14. No more yo-yoing for Rotherhampublished at 19:27 BST 7 April

You have to go back to 2013 for the last time Rotherham United were in League Two.

In the subsequent 13 years they have spent six seasons in the Championship and became known as a 'yo-yo club' - too good for League One but never quite good enough for the second tier.

Lee Clark replaced the Millers-supporting Matt Hamshaw as interim boss last month but one point from a possible six is not going to cut it in the survival stakes.

With the fewest away points (11) of anyone in the division and having lost their past five away games without scoring, bridging the 11 points to safety with seven games remaining is a long shot if not an impossible one.

"It was always going to be we have to win a lot of games, that's still the same and we still have the same focus that it can be achieved," said Clark after Good Friday's draw with Stevenage.

I guess you can't knock an optimist.

A day out at Stamford Bridge may have been fun for Port Vale and their supporters, until the game kicked off.

Hammered 7-0 in their FA Cup quarter-final at Chelsea on Saturday, Vale return to League One action, not that it has been any easier in the bread and butter.

Just seven wins all season has left them 17 points short of safety with eight games remaining - an immediate return to League Two has been on the cards for a number of weeks despite replacing promotion-winning boss Darren Moore with Jon Brady at the start of the year.

"It's a fantastic achievement what we did, the best FA Cup run [by Port Vale] since 1954. We beat a Premier League team and a Championship team in one week. We know our fate has probably been sealed to League Two and we have to come back fighting next year," said Brady at the weekend.

His thoughts are already on trying to mount a promotion challenge next season.

Defeat for either Port Vale or Rotherham tonight would send them even closer to playing League Two football next season.

Even a win would only leave them with an outside chance of avoiding the drop.
