  1. 'We got over the line'published at 17:12 GMT 1 January

    FT: Ipswich 2-1 Oxford

    Mick Mills
Former Ipswich and England captain on BBC Radio Suffolk

You've got to have a way of getting over the line.

We're better as a team if we don't have so much of the ball. Obviously today we were going to have large amounts of possession and it required a lot of patience.

We're not the best at playing a team that plays defensively, and I think we'll need to improve on that as the season goes on.

Robert Bozenik's first goal for Stoke gives them a big three points at in-form Hull City.

The Slovakia international suffered what looks like it might have been a dislocated shoulder in the second half and the away side had to see out SEVENTEEN minutes of time added on at the end.

The Tigers drop to fifth and Stoke go back up to ninth.

  3. Postpublished at 17:07 GMT 1 January

    Hull City 0-1 Stoke City

  4. 'What a start to 2026'published at 17:06 GMT 1 January

    FT: Derby 1-0 Middlesbrough

    Malcolm Christie
Former Derby striker on BBC Radio Derby

Boro just ran out of ideas, it's rinse and repeat for them.

Zetterstrom was player of the match, he made the saves when he was needed. The fact we went into half-time at 0-0 we gave ourselves a chance to believe and we took our opportunity.

It's been a tough few weeks at home for us, but what a start to 2026.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 17:04 GMT 1 January

    Hull City 0-1 Stoke City

The latest of late subs for the away side.

Veteran Steven Nzonzi is on in midfield for Bosun Lawal for the final knockings.

Fair to say the bubble has burst at Coventry and Middlesbrough and the new kids on the block are Ipswich and Watford.

    Frazer, Herts

One win in five for the faltering Sky Blues. And Frank off to his beloved Chelsea tonight...

    Zack Rodgers, Derby

Ipswich deservedly go above Boro and the scrap to stay in the play-offs now begins. Someone needs to tell Hellberg and the players that if you dont score, more often than not, you lose.

In the final minute of nine added on, Amadou Mbengue halved QPR's deficit when his long-range strike dipped and deceived Vladan Kovacevic but it ended up being too little, too late for the Hoops.

  12. CLOSE!published at 16:57 GMT 1 January

    Southampton 0-0 Millwall

What a huge chance for Southampton to win it right at the end.

Adam Armstrong runs down the right and passes the ball across to Finn Azaz who looks like he just has to tap the ball home but Caleb Taylor makes a brilliant block for Millwall to keep it out.

    Charlton 1-1 Coventry

The league leaders will have to settle for a point in the capital.

Coventry led at the break after Ellis Simms swept home a cross from the right in the third minute.

They were pegged back, however, when Joe Rankin-Costello turned home a rebound with 20 minutes left after Charlie Kelman's shot was pushed into the danger zone by Sky Blues keeper Carl Rushworth.

With Ipswich winning once more, Coventry's lead at the top has been diminished slightly to eight points.

    Derby 1-0 Middlesbrough

    It's all over!

Bobby Clark's second-half strike is enough to land a blow to Middlesbrough's automatic promotion hopes.

The Teeside club have had plenty of chances but have failed to find the net for a fourth straight match and have secured one point in that run.

Just a second win in nine for Derby and fourth home win of the season in the league.

    Watford 3-0 Birmingham

Watford pick up a fourth consecutive victory with a comfortable three points.

First, Ince beautifully volleyed home in the eighth minute before adding to his tally before the break when he turned home a rebound after his shot was initially saved.

The former Derby and Blackpool winger then grabbed the match ball when he thrashed home from a tight angle.

Another bad day on the road for Birmingham.

    Derby 1-0 Middlesbrough

    Neil Maddison
Former Middlesbrough midfielder on BBC Tees

Their keeper has pulled off some great saves to keep them in the game.

You've got to put your chances away or you won't win the game, it doesn't matter how well you've played.

I don't think Derby have much quality but they all work hard for each other.
