    Liverpool 0-0 Leeds

I'm not one for the xG chat but for those of you that take an interest...

Liverpool's 1.55 xG is their most without a goal in the first half of a Premier League home match in exactly 2 years (2.5 vs Newcastle on New Year's Day 2024).

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was warming up on the field at half-time but so were several Leeds substitutes.

No sign that Daniel Farke is looking at his star striker to come on early in this second half.

Liverpool have been in control, knocking on the door, but it is not working out for them at the moment. They have to be far more clinical.

Liverpool playing style is the football equivalent of painting by numbers. It is not a system going wrong or playing badly, this is the possession game Slot wants to play, so get used to it.

    HT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Fulham

Time for another interesting but ultimately useless piece of information:

Jean-Philippe Mateta is the first Crystal Palace player to score a Premier League goal against Fulham at Selhurst Park since Jeffrey Schlupp back in February 2019.

That seems remarkable given the success Palace have enjoyed over the last couple of years.

  7. Liverpool lacking urgencypublished at 18:28 GMT 1 January

    HT: Liverpool 0-0 Leeds

Liverpool have lacked any sort of urgency in the first half. It's almost like they're waiting for something to happen. Leeds will be more than content with that opening 45 minutes.

Liverpool have improved their results over the last few games but they are very boring to watch. There is no atmosphere created from the crowd due to the slow the build up in play. It's a slog watching them and I'm a Liverpool fan.

As a Liverpool fan, please bring back heavy metal football. I’m not a fan of this side by side slow play. No width and no directness.

  9. Rosenior leading contender for Chelsea jobpublished at 18:23 GMT 1 January

    Sami Mokbel
    BBC Sport Senior football correspondent

Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior is the leading contender for the Chelsea job vacated by Enzo Maresca.

Former Leicester boss Maresca, 45, left his role as Chelsea head coach on Thursday amid internal tensions with the club's hierarchy and ownership.

The process to replace the Italian is under way, and it is understood Englishman Rosenior is the frontrunner, though sources have stressed other candidates are also under consideration.

Rosenior's current employers are owned by investment vehicle BlueCo - the consortium set up to purchase Chelsea in 2022.

Porto's Francesco Farioli has also been mooted as a potential contender.

Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola and Fulham's Marco Silva have also been linked with the role in the past, though it is unclear if they are now contenders.

Chelsea aren't playing today but their decision to part company with head coach Enzo Maresca earlier today means we can't escape them.

We've got an update on the managerial vacancy...

  11. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:22 GMT 1 January

    Crystal Palace 1-0 Fulham

That's it for the first half at Selhurst Park.

Look up slow-burner and the definition could well be this match. A pretty boring first half burst into life once Crystal Palace took the lead through Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Here's hoping the second half continues as the first ended.

    Crystal Palace 1-0 Fulham

Dean Henderson breathes a huge sigh of relief!

The England goalkeeper makes a right mess of Kevin's long range effort, and is bailed out by his defenders as Harry Wilson's follow-up is blocked heroically by Maxence Lacroix.

  13. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:19 GMT 1 January

    Liverpool 0-0 Leeds

That's it for the first half.

It all started so brightly but a lack of clear chances was the overriding story.

  14. CLOSE!published at 18:18 GMT 1 January

    Crystal Palace 1-0 Fulham

Now Will Hughes has a go with a first time effort from Yeremy Pino's cut-back, but he drags his shot a fraction wide.

Are Palace going to regret not taking these chances?

  15. CLOSE!published at 18:18 GMT 1 January

    Crystal Palace 1-0 Fulham

Yeremy Pino whips in a dangerous in swinging cross, but Mateta can't get there and it sails narrowly wide of the back post.

    Fulham are living dangerously.

Lukas Nmecha puts a teasing ball into the Liverpool box but he has no team-mates in there to attack it.

Might we see the introduction of Dominic Calvert-Lewin when Leeds come out for the second half?

  17. CLOSE!published at 18:16 GMT 1 January

Liverpool win their second corner of the game.

It's an awkward deep ball and finds Florian Wirtz beyond the far post. The German slices his volley horribly wide.

  20. Postpublished at 18:16 GMT 1 January

    Crystal Palace 1-0 Fulham

Jean-Philippe Mateta is very nearly played through on goal by a wayward back-pass, but Joachim Andersen is on hand to clear in the nick of time.

Fulham look ragged at the moment.
