    What a half of football!

Desire Doue has made all the difference for PSG here. He comes inside from the left and forces Philipp Kohn into a diving save. He palms into the path of Achraf Hakimi to control and finish.

I think Kylian Mbappe should get on the end of this. The weight of pass, again, Trent Alexander-Arnold has done his job at full-back. Get the ball in the middle and hope someone gets on the end of it. Kylian Mbappe is too slow to react to it.

That was Trent Alexander-Arnold at his best.

Kylian Mbappe was too slow. It's not often you hear that.

Simon Adingra manages to find space after a step over or two but blazes over the top.

  5. CLOSE!published at 20:40 GMT 17 February

    Benfica 0-0 Real Madrid

That should have been 1-0 to Real!

And it's Trent Alexander-Arnold with an early drilled cross which catches Benfica out. Kylian Mbappe is stretching in an attempt to connect but is unable to make contact.

I swear Vitinha is awful at pens. Honestly, he's dreadful.

Benfica's Rafa is down on the ground hurt after an accidental collision and there's a lot of pushing going between both sets of players. Kylian Mbappe is in the middle of it before the Real forward is ordered by the referee to remove himself from the scene.

    Benfica 0-0 Real Madrid

This game might be lacking the goalmouth drama of 20 days ago but it's tight, it's cagey and it's still a good watch. Real Madrid are enjoy a decent spell of possession right now but they are struggling to breakdown a well-organised Benfica defence.

Quite amazing how left-back Nuno Mendes pops up as a centre forward at times.

    What a player.

@Rezaa 20:19 you can’t hope for strong teams to go out to win the competition, it’s about beating the best. Remember we beat both Real Madrid and PSG last year. These are the games we want over meeting another Premiership side on the European stage.

Desire Doue is causing all sorts of problems now. He picks up the ball in the middle and looks to split the Monaco defence with a pass forward to Bradley Barcola but it's well intercepted.

I don't remember Balogun being that proficient at Middlesbrough in 2022. Funny that, can't see what Monaco can offer that Middlesbrough can't.

    Benfica 0-0 Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho is scribbling stuff into his notebook.

He'll be reasonably happy with this start. Remember, there's an awful long way to go with a second leg in Spain's capital to follow next week.

But Benfica are shading possession and they've registered more attempts on target than the visitors.

They will want to be taking a lead to Madrid though.

Maximilian Beier cuts in from the left and finds enough space for a shot but he isn't able to wrap his foot around it as he'd have liked.

  20. 'Doue drills it well'published at 20:31 GMT 17 February

    Monaco 2-1 PSG

    Glenn Hoddle
Former England and Tottenham manager on TNT Sports

Luis Enrique is a genius, that's what they'll be saying.

He's taken it really well. Doue takes it out of his feet and drills it well. You can't save that as a goalkeeper.
