It may not have had the goals of Tuesday night, but the results were perhaps even bigger.

Charlton took a big stride towards Championship survival with a deserved, if narrow win over Stoke, while Swindon and Grimsby boosted their promotion hopes in League Two with wins over lowly Newport and in-form Accrington respectively.

Thanks for your company this evening, after seven straight days of EFL action, we deserve a day off tomorrow, but our FA Cup fourth round coverage starts on Friday night and we'll have a tasty, if rather truncated, programme across the Championship, League One and Two to follow on Saturday.

Rest up and we'll see you then!

Swindon are back in the top two in League Two and within four points of leaders Bromley after inflicting more woe on second-bottom Newport at the County Ground.

The Exiles remain three points from safety but have now played a game more than Barrow.

Grimsby's 1-0 win over Accrington sent them up to eighth place, just a point behind Walsall in the final play-off spot, but left Stanley six points adrift.

  3. 'Newport haven't done enough'published at 22:14 GMT 11 February

    FT: Swindon 2-0 Newport

    Chris Wathan
BBC Sport Wales at the County Ground

Newport may be feeling a little sorry for themselves, but ultimately they haven't done enough to ever really trouble the promotion-hunters.

The game has been pretty low on quality but Hoilett and Holman did enough to take the game away from the Exiles who have now lost their last five on the road.

Swindon didn't look as though they were firing on all cylinders but still picked up a fourth win in a row, which will have made those fans who came out in the rain glad they did.

Newport - who face three games in a row against top six opposition, starting with MK Dons - will be hoping Ian Holloway does them a favour when Swindon head to survival rivals Shrewsbury at the weekend.

  4. 'A game won in five minutes'published at 22:11 GMT 11 February

    FT: Swindon 2-0 Newport

    Phil Smith
Former Swindon Town goalkeeper on BBC Radio Wiltshire Sport

It was a bright start to the second half from Swindon.

The blow for Newport came from Holman, it was game over within five minutes. After that Swindon were very comfortable, and they always had that threat going forward.

It's not the greatest spectacle, but at the end of the day it's three more points on the board.

  5. FULL-TIMEpublished at 22:01 GMT 11 February

    Swindon 2-0 Newport

Two goals in quick succession move Swindon back into the automatic places in League Two.

The Robins' makeshift backline wasn't put under too much pressure in the second half, and thanks to a stunning substitute showing from Fletcher Holman, they take home all three points.

Newport showed signs in the first half, but in the end, they did not do enough to make the game uncomfortable for Ian Holloway's side.

They may have stayed 18th but Charlton now have a seven-point gap over the relegation places and still have a game in hand - at home to Portsmouth - on some of their rivals.

Whisper it but they are only four points behind Stoke, who were second on Bonfire Night.

Mark Robins' men remain four points adrift of the play-offs but have now played a game more than almost all the sides above them.

Their winless run and lack of goals gives little hope of them bridging that gap any time soon, in truth.

  7. 'Swindon killing off the game'published at 21:54 GMT 11 February

    Swindon 2-0 Newport

    Phil Smith
Former Swindon Town goalkeeper on BBC Radio Wiltshire Sport

It's just about killing the game off now.

In this second half we've been defending well and looking to hit Newport on the break. I don't think our keeper has had to make a save in this second half.

    FT: Charlton 1-0 Stoke

Mark Robins can have few complaints about the result, it might have been worse, but the Potters really did not make the most of their own opportunities either, both in terms of shots and a series of fine crosses which went untouched.

  9. INJURY TIMEpublished at 21:51 GMT 11 February

    Swindon 2-0 Newport

Don't write off this game just yet, as the board has just gone up and nine minutes have been added on.

Ian Holloway nor the Swindon fans are too happy about that one.

  10. 'Another disappointing evening'published at 21:48 GMT 11 February

    FT: Charlton 1-0 Stoke

    Angela Smith
    BBC Radio Stoke

It's been a disappointing run for Stoke.

You can say that the players have given they're all but they just weren't good enough. We just don't look like scoring, and that is what will stop Stoke from progressing.

It's another hugely disappointing evening. Stoke will have to take a long hard look at themselves and see how they can salvage something out of the season.

  11. Postpublished at 86 mins

    Swindon 2-0 Newport

The pace of this one has definitely slowed since that crazy period of goals.

The wind has well and truly been taken out of Newport's sails as they have had plenty of the ball, but just not managed to do much with it.

  12. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:43 GMT 11 February

    Grimsby 1-0 Accrington

A huge, well-deserved three points for Grimsby Town as they move to just one point off seventh place Walsall.

Tyrell Sellars-Flemming's first goal in EFL football is all that separates the two sides in the end, but the result doesn't always tell the full story.

  13. Postpublished at 21:40 GMT 11 February

    Swindon 2-0 Newport

    Chris Wathan
BBC Sport Wales at the County Ground

    This has escalated quickly.

Newport had been growing in confidence and thought they had found the breakthrough when young sub Tanatswa Nyakuhwa broke into the box and was bundled over.

With played waved on - and a beaut of a pass from Hoilett - Swindon grabbed the opener.

There may have been a hint of offside and it's difficult to work out whether it was that or the penalty shout Christian Fuchs was arguing with the officials about.

He could have no complaints with the second, though. A mountain to climb for the Exiles now.

  14. FULL-TIMEpublished at 21:40 GMT 11 February

    Charlton 1-0 Stoke

Charlton move seven points clear of the Championship relegation zone while Stoke's stumble continues.

The Addicks deserved it too, and might have had more goals to show for it than Tyreece Campbell's cool late goal after a slip at the back by Ashley Phillips.

Harry Clarke's thumping header from a corner rattled the underside of the Potters bar early on and Lloyd Jones volleyed wide from close-range either side of half time while Tommy Simkin also kept out a fine Campbell curler.

At the other end former Addicks man Jesurun Rak-Sakyi thumped the bar after a gorgeous reverse pass from Lamine Cisse and lashed another chance off-target before the break while several Sortba Thomas crosses went begging.

That's six without a win for the Potters, just two points, and two goals in that run.

Their former manager, Nathan Jones, is more pumped up than usual, and that's saying something. He's ruffling a few feathers with these celebrations.

  15. Postpublished at 90+4 mins

    Charlton 1-0 Stoke

The ball is being pinged into the Addicks mixer but the hosts have dealt with everything so far.

  16. Postpublished at 90+1 min

    Charlton 1-0 Stoke

A left-wing corner from the Potters causes havoc in the middle but the yellow shirts are unable to get the crucial touch in a scramble in the six-yard box and the Addicks hack away.

  17. INJURY TIMEpublished at 90+1 min

    Charlton 1-0 Stoke

We'll have FOUR added minutes for Charlton to negotiate, and Stoke are pressing forward.

  18. RED CARD: Devon Matthews (Accrington)published at 86 mins

    Grimsby 1-0 Accrington

A bad evening made much worse for the visitors as Devon Matthews was shown a straight red card.

It was a 50/50 ball in the middle of the park, and Matthews got there too late and saw red.

A goal down and a man down for Accrington Stanley.

  19. 'Stoke lacking a clinical finisher'published at 21:30 GMT 11 February

    Charlton 1-0 Stoke

    Angela Smith
    BBC Radio Stoke

You look at the body language of the Stoke players and it's not good.

It's what I've said all season about Stoke, we don't have that clinical scorer who can take those chances.

  20. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 84 mins

    Charlton 1-0 Stoke

Sonny Carey has had a decent game but goes off to be replaced by Conor Coventry for the last knockings.

Bit of steel to ensure Charlton hold what they have.
