    Sporting finally break through!

Goncalo Inacio comes up with the much-needed opener as the hosts turn their early dominance into a goal - the centre-back heading home from a Francisco Trincao corner.

One down, at least two more to go for the Portuguese side if they are to book a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Bodo/Glimt continue to soak up the pressure in Lisbon.

Sporting have had 11 shots inside the first half an hour and almost 75% of the possession while the Norwegians are yet to register a shot on target having only attempted one so far.

You can feel a hint of impatience creeping in among the Sporting players and supporters, despite them dominating the stats.

    Barcelona 6-1 PSG (last-16 second leg, 8 March 2017, 6-5 on agg)

    Champions League

Arguably the greatest comeback of all, this one is so iconic that it has its very own title in France and Spain - La Remontada (The Comeback).

PSG were clinical at home, winning 4-0, but the Nou Camp sensed something special when Luis Suarez scored after just three minutes in the second leg.

Barcelona were two goals to the good at the break courtesy of a Layvin Kurzawa own goal, but still trailed by two goals on aggregate.

Lionel Messi scored a penalty soon after the restart but Edinson Cavani hit back to silence the home faithful, although it wasn't the pendulum-swinging moment PSG hoped for.

Barcelona, now trailing 5-3, needed three goals in fewer than 30 minutes to achieve a miracle. Neymar scored a free-kick in the 88th minute to offer further hope, before the Brazilian stroked home a 91st-minute penalty to level the tie at 5-5 on aggregate.

But PSG were still heading through on away goals.

Then, with 20 seconds of added time remaining, La Remontada came to fruition when Sergi Roberto turned home Neymar's chipped pass, with Barcelona becoming the only team in history to overturn a four-goal Champions League deficit.

Bodo fans in one corner of the stadium and sporting their bright yellow kits are a nervous lot at the moment.

Sporting's Maxi Araujo has been menacing against their side on the left wing early on and he almost sets up team-mate Pedro Goncalves for the opener with a header across the goal.

It's a surprise that the Portuguese champions haven't opened the scoring yet.

The good news for the travelling supporters, though, is that their side have looked dangerous on the break .

Mikel Arteta has warned against Max Dowman being burdened by hype and stressed he will take a cautious approach to the 16-year-old’s future first-team opportunities.

Dowman became the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history on Saturday when he beat two players before sliding the ball past Jordan Pickford late in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Everton.

Arteta said: “He is knocking on the door at 16, saying ‘I am good enough and I can impact this team whenever it is needed’. And he is doing it when he is playing.

“We just need to bring the temperature down and understand what is the best thing for this boy at his age.

“He’s doing something phenomenal. We all know that. Let’s keep it down a little bit and respect his nature to do what he has to do, which I’m sure is going to be something really good.”

Looking to overturn a 3-0 deficit, Sporting need to make a fast start in this second leg.

And that is what they almost have as Francisco Trincao gets on the end of two gilt-edged chances early on in Lisbon.

First, the Sporting forward heads over a cross from Maxi Araujo before he almost capitalises on a mix-up between Bodo/Glimt goalkeeper Nikita Haikin and his defender but once again fails to find the target.

The hosts are well and truly on top in the early stages.

    Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona (semi-final second leg, 7 May 2019, 4-3 on agg)

    Champions League

Liverpool's hopes of forcing their way back into the semi-final after a 3-0 loss to Barcelona at the Nou Camp looked slim, especially with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino unavailable because of injury.

But Divock Origi got the ball rolling on seven minutes, before the tie really turned in the space of 166 seconds after half-time when substitute Georginio Wijnaldum scored twice.

A moment of quick thinking saw Liverpool complete the job as Trent Alexander-Arnold spotted Barcelona's defence switch off from a corner, whipping the ball in low for Origi to fire home and spark wild scenes at Anfield.

The ball is rolling in this evening's first Champions League tie.

A small but loud pocket of travelling Bodo/Glimt fans - around 2,000 of them - are in attendance at Estadio Jose Alvalade.

There's plenty at stake as we get under way.

  15. How did Bodo/Glimt get here?published at 17:43 GMT 17 March

    Sporting v Bodo/Glimt (0-3 agg) (17:45 GMT)

    Bodo/Glimt Champions League results

Bodo/Glimt did not win any of their first six marches in the 2025-26 Champions League.

The Norwegian side's European campaign began back in August when they defeated Austria's Sturm Graz 6-2 to qualify for the league stage for the very first time.

But it was not an easy start to life among the big names as draws against Slavia Prague and Tottenham were followed by three consecutive defeats by Galatasaray, Monaco and Juventus.

A creditable draw against Borussia Dortmund came on Matchday 6 before they pulled off one of the biggest upsets in Champions League history by stunning Manchester City 3-1.

They have since then proved that result was not a mere fluke as a win against Atletico Madrid in their final league stage fixture helped them squeeze into the knockout phase play-offs in 23rd place.

With wind firmly in their sails now, they beat last season’s finalists Inter 5-2 on aggregate before dismantling Sporting 3-0 with relative ease in the last-16 first leg.

And that takes us to today's clash - 90 more minutes with a three-goal cushion and a place in the quarter-finals within reach of the side from the edge of the Arctic Circle.

There are four changes for Sporting as Eduardo Quaresma, Maximiliano Araújo, Hidemasa Morita and Pedro Gonçalves all come in.

Subs: Virginia, Callai, Debast, Nuno Santos, Vagiannidis, Faye, Braganca, Simoes, Couto, Nel, Diomande.

Consistency is key for Bodo as they are unchanged for a sixth successive Champions League game.

Bodo/Glimt XI: Haikin, Sjovold, Bjortuft, Gundersen, Bjorkan, Evjen, Berg, Fet, Blomberg, Hogh, Hauge.

Subs: Lund, Nielsen, Aleesami, Auklend, Saltnes, Helmersen, Klynge, Riisnaes, Bassi, Maatta, Mikkelsen, Sjong.

As well as those three games featuring Premier League clubs, there's an early match about to start over in Portugal.

We're kicking things off with a remarkable underdog story.

Bodo/Glimt arrive at Lisbon's Estadio Jose Alvalade finding themselves on the brink of creating Champions League history.

Even a defeat against the Portuguese giants would still be enough to send the Arctic outsiders into the quarter-finals of the competition, having won the first leg of their last-16 clash 3-0.

But nothing about this Bodo story has been ordinary.

They have already strung together five straight Champions League victories - a run that includes triumphs over Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.

It is easy to forget this is their debut season in Europe's premier club competition.
