    Van Veen 2-0 Razma (2-0)

Madars Razma has had very few shots at doubles, and when he has, he's had a 25% success rate.

And on Razma's throw, Van Veen starts with four successive T20s to take control again.

GVV can break with 48, and does so with minimal fuss.

    Van Veen 2-0 Razma (1-0)

Back under way, and we await to see if Madars Razma can raise his game again after rather chucking his hand in towards the end of the second set.

He has a shot at 170 here, can't make it, but will follow up as Gian van Veen is unable to finish.

But Razma is well wide of D10, and the number 10 seed holds.

It is more businesslike rather than explosive from Gian van Veen tonight.

  6. Van Veen eases into two-set leadpublished at 19:42 GMT 28 December 2025

    Van Veen 2-0 Razma (3-1)

Both men are averaging around 97, but Razma's inconsistency is badly letting him down.

He is well back again here, allowing Van Veen to tee up an easy finish under no pressure.

Van Veen has three at D12. Again, done in one.

    Van Veen 1-0 Razma (2-1)

We have Madders watching Madars - Spurs midfielder James Maddison is in the Ally Pally crowd tonight.

On the oche, Razma would love to hold now he has the set back on throw. But he's chucking in too many trebleless visits at this stage.

Van Veen has three darts at D8, and nails it in one.

  8. Postpublished at 19:39 GMT 28 December 2025

    Van Veen 1-0 Razma (1-1)

A roar from Van Veen after another maximum to open the second leg.

He gets himself to another 164 finish, but takes time to set up 60 - assuming Razma won't get 145.

The Latvian doesn't, however Van Veen is again dodgy on the doubles!

It allows Razma to break. This could be closer than expected, you know.

Good start for Madars Razma with the darts in set two - a 180. But Gian Van Veen responds in kind!

Then Razma chucks in a 36, with Van Veen hitting 140. Does that set the tone for the set?

Van Veen gets to a finish of 88, but bends in the wire of D16. And Razma nearly sees out a 160 checkout, but he too is just inside.

Van Veen gets the immediate break.

Can't see anybody but Littler winning again this year. Too many upsets and players out of form to trouble him.

  12. Could this go the distance?published at 19:30 GMT 28 December 2025

There have been two matches at this year's World Championship that have needed a sudden-death leg to decide a winner.

Scotland's Alan Soutar, in round one, and England's Justin Hood, in round two, have both won at the last gasp.

If we get to a seventh and deciding set and that gets to 5-5 in legs, the winner of the 11th leg will go through to the fourth round.

  13. Van Veen wins opening setpublished at 19:29 GMT 28 December 2025

A first loose visit of the match sees Madars Razma return just 42 from a visit, and he looks to the sky.

It hands the impetus on the Razma throw to Van Veen, who is first to a finish.

GVV sets up 60, and, despite two successive trebleless visits, he gets it done with tops.

  14. Postpublished at 19:27 GMT 28 December 2025

    Van Veen 0-0 Razma (2-1)

It will be interesting to see how both men attack the trebles tonight - Van Veen has the highest hit rate in T20 at these championships, while Razma is one of the strongest at T19.

For now, 20s are winning out as Van Veen holds again.

Madars Razma is the world number 46, he's no slouch.

Visits of 115 and 137 set up a checkout of 109, which he lands.

    Good start by the Latvian.

  16. Postpublished at 19:23 GMT 28 December 2025

    Van Veen 0-0 Razma (1-0)

Gian van Veen throws first in set one - and opens with 100, followed by 140, then another 100. A strong statement.

He can't make the 161 checkout, but he will return for three at D12.

But he can't do it - single 12, then twice outside the six.

But Razma can't steal with 121, and GVV recovers to hold.

  18. 'It can happen quickly now'published at 19:19 GMT 28 December 2025

    Van Veen v Razma

Gian van Veen talking to Sky Sports: "I've been in really good form this year so I was coming here really comfortable. I'd never won here before so I was nervous in the first game but then I felt really comfortable in the second game.

"I'm just going to take it game by game but it really can happen quite quickly now."

On what he's expecting from Madars Razma: "I expect him to dictate the tempo of the game, slow it down a bit and as long as I'm aware of that I can control my own game."

Gian van Veen has been consistent all year. Now he's a major champion, we've seen the impact that had on Luke Humphries and I think that could be the same for Van Veen.

  20. Postpublished at 19:17 GMT 28 December 2025

Time for the first match of the evening - and the only one not to feature a former champion.

But will it contain a future champ? Gian van Veen has the highest match average of any player in this tournament, is European and World Youth Champion and has produced some electric play.

Will Van Veen continue his form - or can Madars Razma of Latvia cause an almighty upset?
