  1. Tea at Edgbastonpublished at 15:42 BST 18 April

    Warks 190 v Essex 79-2

From nowhere the hover cover strikes up as rain comes down at Edgbaston and the players go off.

Play was wiped out soon after lunch on day one, but this is unlikely to last.

An early tea is wisely called to allow the shower to blow through.

  2. ouch!

    Warks 190 v Essex 79-2 - trail by 111 runs

Charlie Allison is down on his haunches after Ed Barnard sneaks one through and strikes the Essex batter amidships.

Coukd be worse. At least the lbw appeal was turned down.

The deficit is inching down towards double figures.

  3. 'Four lucky runs'published at 15:38 BST 18 April

    Warks 190 v Essex 78-2

    Don Topley
    BBC Essex

This is a very fortuitious shot. I think he was playing that not where it was going.

No third man down there, four lucky runs for Walter.

One or two of the coaches might've had their hearts in the mouths then.

  4. Postpublished at 15:36 BST 18 April

Hants 22-0 v Somerset (trail by 28 runs)

Toby Albert looks to pull but the ball is well stopped at mid-wicket.

The following Alfie Ogborne delivery is driven by Albert and there is a shy at the stumps. Albert looks like he has pulled a muscle racing through for that single.

Bit of trouble for Hampshire's opener here.

  5. Postpublished at 15:36 BST 18 April

    Warks 190 v Essex 76-2 - trail by 114 runs

Ed Barnard is back into the attack and unleashes a half-appeal with his final ball of the over as he hits the pad of Charlie Allison. Maiden.

Keith Barker (1-10) is also back after his impressive opening spell, replacing Nathan Gilchrist.

Paul Walters picks up a boundary but five dots otherwise.

  6. 50 runs

50 partnership for Essexpublished at 15:33 BST 18 April

    Warks 190 v Essex 71-2 - trail by 119 runs

Charlie Allison is on the back foot again and punches Nathan Gilchrist square of the wicket for four more.

It brings up the fifty stand for the visitors with Paul Walter off 85 balls.

Good bit of rebuilding from the visitors as they look to lay the platform for a lead.

  7. Postpublished at 15:28 BST 18 April

    Hants 238 & 17-0 v Somerset 288 (trail by 33)

Toby Albert works a couple of couples into the off side to move onto 15 not out.

Hampshire have started their second-innings strongly.

    Northants 120-4 v Middlesex 341

Nathan McSweeney drives through backward point for four to bring up his 19th first-class fifty.

It's taken the Australian 77 balls to get to the mark with 10 fours.

A super knock while his team-mates have largely struggled.

  9. 150 runs

150 up for Lancashirepublished at 15:26 BST 18 April

    Gloucs 136 v Lancs 151-5 (lead by 15)

With the final ball of the over, Matty Hurst pulls a short ball superbly to the boundary to get off the mark and put 150 up for Lancashire.

    They lead by 15 now.

'Excellent fightback from Gloucs'published at 15:24 BST 18 April

    Gloucs 136 v Lancs 147-5

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

This is an excellent fightback from Gloucestershire.

I think they've bowled really well since lunch, they barely gave a run away, really disciplined bowling.

They've slowed down Lancashire and have chipped away. They'll feel as though they've got a really big opportunity here now.

  11. Postpublished at 15:23 BST 18 April

    Warks 190 v Essex 62-2 - trail by 128 runs

The sun makes a welcome return at Edgbaston, but the floodlights remain on after the earlier gloom.

Charlie Allison opens his shoulders and cuts a short, wide ball from Nathan Gilchrist for four. The treatment.

Gloucestershire players celebrate a wicketImage source, Shutterstock

The big wicket of Marcus Harris. Gloucestershire are on a roll here!

Four wickets have fallen for just 25 runs.

This one looked dead in front and Harris is walking before the umpire even makes his decision.

Lancashire have seen many a middle order collapse in recent years and another one is happening in front of their eyes today.

Good bowling change as Gabe Bell is back into the attack and the Division Two bottom club have played well after the lunch break.

  13. 'Just about level'published at 15:18 BST 18 April

    Hants 238 & 8-0 v Somerset 288

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

It's just about level I would say.

Somerset have got to bat last on a pitch that's looking a little bit rough around the edges.

Some hints of turn for Liam Dawson, hints of reverse swing as well for Codi Yusuf in particular.

  14. Postpublished at 15:16 BST 18 April

    Northants 111-4 v Middlesex 341

Nathan McSweeney tries to free the shsckles that Naavya Sharma has applied as he pulls a chest-high delivery around the corner for four.

Not perfectly-timed but effective and McSweeney moves within seven of his fifty.

  15. Postpublished at 15:15 BST 18 April

    Hants 238 & 8-0 v Somerset 288 (trail by 42)

An expensive first over for Somerset in the hosts' second-innings.

Two boundaries for Toby Albert sees him race to eight off six deliveries.

  16. 50 runs

50 up for Essexpublished at 15:12 BST 18 April

    Warks 190 v Essex 51-2 - trail by 139 runs

Charlie Allison gets a little lucky to the final ball of Jordan Thompson's third over which squares him up and takes the outside edge. It squirts out to gully and safe.

Nathan Gilchrist now enters the attack after a super spell from Ed Barnard as the Bears again shake things up.

Paul Walter opens the face and plays it down to third man where Zen Malik hauls it in to prevent a boundary. Two runs takes Essex to fifty.

He then plays a straight ball into the legside for another single to go to 29.

  17. 'Valuable runs from Somerset'published at 15:11 BST 18 April

    Hants 238 v Somerset 288

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Well batted Alfie Ogborne. He looks a lot better bat than a number 10 and he looks a lot better bat than his first class average of six.

That's a distinct improvement on his previous best in first-class cricket which was 12.

Very valuable runs those from the last wicket pair and Jake Ball played his part as well.

After initial nervousness he got away with it and then batted very sensibly.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:09 BST 18 April

    Jones c Price b M Taylor 0 (Gloucs 136 v Lancs 141-4 - lead by 5)

Good little period for Gloucestershire and Matt Taylor has his second wicket in around a half hour!

Again around the wicket, Taylor angles one in and Michael Jones can only edge one to Ollie Price at first slip who makes a sharp catch.

Lancashire lead by five runs but will have to be careful here. Matty Hurst joins Marcus Harris at the crease.

    Jennings c Williams b van Buuren 70 (Gloucs 136 v Lancs 140-3 - lead by 4)

Keaton Jennings - moments after Marcus Harris sends a massive six over Graeme van Buuren's head - can only slap a half-volley straight at Will Williams stood at mid-off and the opener has to walk for 70.

  20. 'Bucket hands Robson'published at 15:04 BST 18 April

    Lunch: Northants 102-4 v Middlesex 341

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London commentator

Old bucket hands is back - Sam Robson.

He had a slow start to last season in the catching and running stakes as he became a father for the first time and it was clearly on his mind, but he's holding them again now because that was sharp.

He had to really get down for that one.
