  1. Postpublished at 17:57 BST 18 April

Hants 126-1 v Somerset (lead by 76 runs)

Nick Gubbins looks to pull a short ball with the first delivery of Jake Ball's fourth over but it is well stopped in the field.

The following delivery, Gubbins has to hurry and Alfie Ogborne has a shy at the stumps - a direct hit and Gubbins would have been a goner, but the left-handed opener lives to fight another day.

  2. Gimme from Jimmypublished at 17:56 BST 18 April

    Gloucs 8-0 v Lancashire - trail by 96

James Anderson - who else - takes the new ball for the Red Rose but an inauspicious start.

His first ball is short and wide and Cam Bancroft doesn't miss out on a gimme from Jimmy and cuts it for four.

Back in the rhythm and the fourth ball squares up the Australian opener and the fifth almost takes the edge but flies off the pad and through the slips for four leg byes.

  3. 'Gloucs have fought back'published at 17:53 BST 18 April

    Gloucs 136 v Lancs 240

    Ed Seabourne
    BBC Radio Bristol commentator

Bohannon kept Jennings company for a while and Sutton with his 19 did a really important job to keep Hurst company.

There was applause for Matt Taylor when he was walking off the field, leading Gloucestershire off.

Williams didn't get the pay off but particularly in the afternoon did such an important job.

They'll [Gloucestershire] be under pressure when they come out to bat but they have fought back in this innings.

  4. Postpublished at 17:52 BST 18 April

Hants 125-1 v Somerset (lead by 75 runs)

Archie Vaughan is back on and there's a shout for lbw as Jake Lehmann is trapped on the pad but there might have been a bit of bat or glove first on that one.

  5. Gloucs begin second inningspublished at 17:52 BST 18 April

    Gloucs 0-0 v Lancashire - trail by 104

A big final 20 overs for Gloucestershire who are in danger of a third successive defeat after surrendering a 104-run deficit on first innings in a low-scoring match.

They have failed to exceed 216 this season but may need to if they want to get anything out of this game - aside from the three bowling points.

  6. Postpublished at 17:47 BST 18 April

Hants 123-1 v Somerset (lead by 73 runs)

Jake Ball continues around the wicket to Jake Lehmann who is 2 not out off nine deliveries.

The sun is starting to go down at the Utilita Bowl in what has been a second successive glorious day on the South Coast.

    Sutton c Price b Taylor 19 (Gloucs 136 v Lancashire 240)

James Anderson gets off the mark first ball to extend his impressive record of avoiding ducks.

The hosts bring back Matty Taylor in an attempt to mop up the tail, but Anderson pushes nicely into the offside for a second single.

    But his fun is short-lived.

Ollie Sutton drives airily and edges to Ollie Price at first slip who takes a comfortable catch.

There are 20 overs left and Lancashire lead by 104 on first innings.

  8. Postpublished at 17:42 BST 18 April

Hants 121-1 v Somerset (lead by 71 runs)

A hint of reverse swing by Jake Ball around the wicket as the ball almost dies as it goes on the way through to wicket-keeper James Rew.

Ball was looking at the ball before the over with 11 overs remaining in today's play.

  9. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:38 BST 18 April

    Hurst b Bell 39 (Gloucs 136 v Lancashire 238-9)

    Breakthrough at last!

Matty Hurst plays down the wrong line and misses a straight 'un from Gabe Bell.

A tame dismissal but important runs, picking up 39 off 131 balls in a touch over an hour-and-a-half.

The Burnley Lara, James Anderson, strides to the crease.

  10. Lancashire lead reaches 100published at 17:36 BST 18 April

    Gloucs 136 v Lancashire 236-8

Graeme van Buuren into his seventh over and gives the ball a bit of flight.

Matty Hurst drills it along the ground to pick up another single and take the Lancashire lead into three figures.

That looked highly unlikely a few hours ago.

Next stop, a first batting point.

  11. 'Important breakthrough for Somerset'published at 17:35 BST 18 April

    Hants 238 & 119-1 v Somerset 288

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

    It's the umpire's call.

It wouldn't have gone over the top. If we had DRS I think Prest might have reviewed it but it's a very important breakthrough for Somerset.

  12. Postpublished at 17:34 BST 18 April

Hants 119-1 v Somerset (lead by 69 runs)

Bit of a top edge from Nick Gubbins but when your lucks in, your lucks in.

He throws his hands at a wide one from Jake Ball and the ball races away to the boundary fine of third man for four more to take him onto 58 not out.

  13. 50 runs

    50 partnershippublished at 17:30 BST 18 April

    Gloucs 136 v Lancashire 232-8

    Ollie SuttonImage source, Shutterstock

Ollie Sutton drives Graeme van Buuren and they scamper through for two, with Matty Hurst having to race a little to make his ground.

That brings up a rapid fifty partnership off just 51 balls.

Really valuable runs from this ninth wicket pair and painful ones for the home side.

The lead is approaching three figures.

  14. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:30 BST 18 April

    Prest lbw b Ball 43 (Hants 114-1 v Somerset - lead by 64 runs)

Somerset make the breakthrough and it's Jake Ball with his very first ball into the attack!

This one keeps a little low and looks to be clipping leg stump - Tom Prest is a little bit unlucky on this occasion.

Terrific stuff from Ball though who makes the immediate impact captain Lewis Gregory was looking for.

Jake Lehmann walks to the crease for Hampshire.

  15. 50 runs

50 for Nick Gubbinspublished at 17:26 BST 18 April

Hants 109-0 v Somerset (lead by 59 runs)

50 for Nick Gubbins and what a timely innings it has been for Hampshire.

He times this absolutely perfectly on the back foot, dissecting the field to find a boundary through midwicket.

  16. 'Very calculated shot'published at 17:25 BST 18 April

    Hants 238 & 109-0 v Somerset 288

    Simon Hughes
The Analyst on The Cricket Social

That was a really good shot by Prest.

He was very calculated and beautifully executed to bring up the Hampshire 100.

  17. Postpublished at 17:23 BST 18 April

    Gloucs v Lancs 223-8 (lead by 87)

A handy ninth-wicket partnership is forming for Lancashire.

A textbook cover drive from Ollie Sutton sees him move onto 12 not out and Lancashire's lead rises to 87 runs.

  18. 100 runs

100 up for Hampshirepublished at 17:21 BST 18 April

Hants 103-0 v Somerset (lead by 53 runs)

100 up without loss for Hampshire who have dominated the first 28 overs of their second-innings.

They reach three figures in fine style too with Tom Prest reverse sweeping Archie Vaughan for four down at third man.

  19. Postpublished at 17:17 BST 18 April

Hants 92-0 v Somerset (lead by 42 runs)

Glorious use of the feet here by Nick Gubbins.

He comes down the track to meet Jack Leach and sends one over wide mid-on for a one-bounce four.

That means Leach goes around the wicket with his next ball and Gubbins dabs a single to move onto 40.

This is a real opportunity for Hampshire to extend their lead with some quick-fire runs in the final session of day two.

  20. Bad light stops play at Northamptonpublished at 17:16 BST 18 April

    Northants 229-4 v Middlesex 341

Disappointment all round as the umpires take the players off for bad light at Northampton.

We lost a fair chunk of the evening session yesterday to bad light and let's hope that isn't that for day two.

We still have 30 overs outstanding.
