    Northants 13-0 v Middlesex 341

Middlesex bowlers keeping things tidy at the start of the Northants innings.

Tom Helm claims a maiden before Toby Roland-Jones strings together six dots.

Ricardo Vasconcelos then attacks a Helm delivery on the up through cover point for his first boundary.

The bowler almost takes instant revenge as he induces an edge from the opener which narrowly evades the diving fielder at short leg.

  2. 50 runs

50 up for Lancashirepublished at 12:40 BST 18 April

    Gloucs 136 v Lancs 56-1

Lancashire have brought their 50 up as Josh Bohannon joins Keaton Jennings at the crease.

Their first-innings deficit is just 80 now following their first 14 overs.

  3. 6 runs

    Warks 168-9 v Essex

Nathan Gilchrist narrowly survives the final ball of Jamie Porter's 17th over.

He shoulders arms and the inswinging delivery is uncomfortably close to the off stump as it goes through.

Zaman Akhter sends a delivery well wide of off-stump which momentarily tempts Sam Hain, but it's too wide.

Again he gets down one one knee to wallop the fifth ball over the bowler's head and clears the long-off boundary for his second six.

A short ball then allows Hain to nudge a single and keep the strike. He moves to 74.

    Gregory b Abbott 2 (Hants 238 v Somerset 204-7)

What a fightback it has been in the first session on day two by Hampshire!

A fourth wicket this morning and Division One league-leaders Somerset are struggling now.

Captain Lewis Gregory leaves one outside off stump but it jags back and clips off stump via his right pad - extraordinary!

Another cheap wicket in truth for the visitors to lose but Hampshire's good shift in the field has been rewarded - and then some.

Jack Leach is now at the crease for Somerset at number nine.

  5. 200 runs

200 up for Somersetpublished at 12:31 BST 18 April

    Hants 238 v Somerset 202-6

Captain Lewis Gregory and vice-captain Craig Overton are now at the crease as Somerset attempt to steady their innings once more.

Overton hits Liam Dawson's final delivery over Eddie Jack at mid-on to bring Somerset's 200 up as they reduce their deficit to 36 with four first-innings wickets remaining.

  6. Postpublished at 12:29 BST 18 April

    Northants 5-0 v Middlesex 341

Toby Roland-Jones takes the new ball for Middlesex as they seek to emulate their hosts and take early wickets.

Ricardo Vasconcelos picks up a leg bye from the second delivery before Luke Procter turns a loose ball off his hip down to the fine leg boundary to get off the mark.

He made an unbeaten 261 last time out but will do tremendously well to get anywhere near that.

Tiom Helm to open at the other end.

    Wells c Williams b M Taylor 27 (Gloucs 136 v Lancs 41-1)

Gloucestershire grab their first wicket of the day!

It's not a wicket which Luke Wells will look back fondly on.

He slaps a half-tracker from Matt Taylor straight to Will Williams at mid-on who makes a simple catch.

Wells had his bat under his arm practically as soon as he hit that - he knew what he had done.

    Warks 160-9 v Essex

Sam Hain takes matters into his own hands as Zaman Akhter runs in for his 12th over.

The Bears batter is down on one knee to pull Akhter over midwicket and deep into the Hollis Stand, clattering into the plastic seating.

A single off the fourth ball gives Nathan Gilchrist two to survive.

  9. Postpublished at 12:22 BST 18 April

    Warks 153-9 v Essex

Nathan Gilchrist may not be around for too much longer.

Once again the number 11 is trapped on his crease as he looks to defend against Shane Snater. It flies just past the outside edge.

Snater spears in a yorker which takes an outside edge and goes low to second slip, just out of Simon Harmer's grasp.

    Maiden and job done.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:22 BST 18 April

    Abell c Brown b Dawson 49 (Hants 238 v Somerset 193-6)

    Now then...

Tom Abell is dismissed one run short of his half century.

Beautiful bit of bowling from Liam Dawson who gets the drift and turn just right and Abell can only edge behind to wicketkeeper Ben Brown.

A terrific fightback from Hampshire in this opening session - they have claimed three wickets in the first hour and 20 minutes of the second day.

  11. Postpublished at 12:21 BST 18 April

    Gloucs 136 v Lancs 41-0

A well-timed drive through the covers to the boundary sees Keaton Jennings move onto 14 not out and Lancashire's deficit down to just 95.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:16 BST 18 April

    Smeed c Baker b Yusuf 9 (Hants 238 v Somerset 191-5)

An unconvincing innings comes to an end.

Will Smeed is the second Somerset batsman who is caught on the hook right on the deep fine leg boundary.

Sonny Baker barely has to move to make a simple grab in a carbon copy to Archie Vaughan's wicket yesterday.

The good news for Somerset - the in-form Craig Overton is now at the crease.

  13. 'Gilchrist just keeping wicket intact'published at 12:15 BST 18 April

    Warks 153-9 v Essex

    Phil Britt
    BBC Radio WM

Quite rightly people will say Gilchrist's not here to bat, he's here to bowl but in this situation with Hain at the other end just making sure that he keeps his wicket intact is really the criteria.

  14. Postpublished at 12:14 BST 18 April

    Hants 238 v Somerset 191-4

Will Smeed gloves a short delivery from Codi Yusuf down the leg side to the boundary to move onto 9 not out.

A little finer than Smeed would have liked, but safe enough nevertheless.

  15. MIDDLESEX ALL OUT FOR 341published at 12:14 BST 18 April

    Gohar c and b Conway 83 (Northants v Middlesex 341)

Zafar Gohar looks to go big and takes an almighty swing to a short ball from Harry Conway.

It's mistimed and lobs back towards the bowler who takes a couple of steps to his left and takes his third wicket to wrap up the Middlesex innings.

A fine 133-ball knock of 83 comes to an end.

No third batting point for the visitors, but decent work from the hosts who have taken the final four wickets for 57 runs this morning.

  16. Missed stumpingpublished at 12:08 BST 18 April

    Hants 238 v Somerset 180-4

Huge opportunity goes begging for Hampshire.

Will Smeed (0 not out) is beaten all ends up by Liam Dawson and is caught out of his ground but wicketkeeper Ben Brown stumbles and drops the ball at the vital moment as he attempts to take the bails off.

Dawson has his hands on his hips as he stares at his captain and you can't blame him for that.

  17. Five-wicket haul for Ben Sandersonpublished at 12:07 BST 18 April

    Helm c Conway b Sanderson 5 (Northants v Middlesex 341-9)

    Ben SandersonImage source, Getty Images

A 24th five-for for Ben Sanderson as he gets Tom Helm with the short ball.

The Middlesex tailender goes for a hook but top edges down to Harry Conway at fine leg who takes the catch and sets off on a celebratory run.

Northants one wicket away from batting before lunch.

WICKETpublished at 12:04 BST 18 April

    Bamber c Allison b Snater 0 Warks (145-9 v Essex)

The Bears' good work this morning is unravelling a little with a second wicket inside six minutes.

Ethan Bamber can't resist a nibble at a straight ball from Shane Snater and he gets a feather through to Charlie Allison at slip for a six-ball duck.

Nathan Gilchrist is last man in.

  19. 'They'll stick with sub rule'published at 12:03 BST 18 April

    Hants 238 v Somerset 179-4

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

I think they'll stick with it, I don't think they'll give it up.

I think the sensible thing would be rather than the eight days, you're not allowed to play in the next match because the two Yorkshire men who were replaced last weekend, Yorkshire don't have a game this week.

The other concern about it is a lot of physiotherapists are going to be reluctant not to allow replacements just in case the player has to carry on, aggravates his injury and then makes things worse

  20. Postpublished at 12:03 BST 18 April

    Gloucs 136 v Lancs 20-0

Huge appeal from Gloucestershire's Will Williams and he and the slip cordon are all up.

Williams thinks he has trapped Luke Wells bang in front and height does not look to be an issue here at all.

The seamer is perplexed he has not got his first victim of the day - big call that.

When your lucks out, your lucks out.
