It will be interesting to see how Joe Root plays these last few overs. Will he look to increase his scoring?

Good early morning! I’m up rocking my lovely daughter to sleep. She has allowed me to listen to more of the Ashes this year than I expected to! I’m going to try putting her down after the next wicket.

Such a shame to have blown the first match. What a match this would be if the series was on the line.

    Barney, Tokyo, Japan

England's performance in perspective. Had a great chance to win the first Test. Blew it with careless batting. Not sure any team will beat Australia in a day/night Test. They have a massive (unfair) advantage. Australia deserved a convincing win in third Test. England look on course to win last the two Tests. Teams are closely matched. England not that far off being able to win an Ashes in Australia.

There is still some bounce in this pitch with the new ball. Australia need to use that to take these last two wickets.

  10. Eng 383-8published at 95 overs

Matthew Potts - who scored an unbeaten 149 as nightwatchman for Durham against Warwickshire a couple of summers ago - takes a single off the final ball of the over to retain the strike.

Cameron Green has taken the role of bowling short previously but in this match he has bowled a lot fuller. That ball was in the perfect spot.

The modern day tactic is to get the new guy on strike and work on him rather than the set batsman.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 94.1 overs

    Carse c Carey b Green 1 (Eng 382-8)

Wickets falling in clumps again for England!

Brydon Carse nicks one and is caught behind by Alex Carey, moving to his right and taking the catch in front of Beau Webster.

Cameron Green, who had a wicket overturned for a no-ball in the first session, turns around to check everything's ok with the umpire before starting his celebration.

    Out walks Matthew Potts.

  13. Eng 382-7published at 94 overs

Joe Root and Brydon Carse rotate the strike to add four to England's tally.

Currently working a night shift at Wexham Hospital loving the TMS commentary. Hoping Root stays in as flying to Aus in 12 hours and have tickets for day 4 on Wednesday.

I was surprised to wake up to snow here in Elston and even more surprised to hear that apparently a Test match of cricket has finally broken out in Australia?

With three wickets in hand and Joe Root on 156, England should still be expecting to get close to 450.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 92 overs

    Jacks c Green b Neser 27 (Eng 375-7)

Michael Neser strikes in the first over after drinks! A good bowling change for Australia.

Cameron Green gobbles up the catch at gully and Will Jacks is on his way for 27 (62).

Now then - can Brydon Carse and co support Joe Root or will this innings be over in a flash?

The game is in a real holding pattern at the moment. It is old-fashioned Test cricket that we have been seeing in the last half an hour or so.
