Wyatt-Hodge is strong when it comes to punishing full deliveries, striking at 169 in all T20s since the start of 2023. Punishing width is also one of her a strengths striking at 156 when facing wider lines from pace bowlers.

That early boundary has given Danni Wyatt-Hodge a bit of confidence.

The England opener thrashes Sugandika Dasanayaka through the covers and England run three.

Handy strike rotation from her and Amy Jones.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge was waiting for that. A classic over the top shot and the one we like to see.

Mithali Ayodhya is 19, and played three T20s before this one so England will not have seen that much of her apart from on TV.

Very reminiscent of Lasith Malinga with her action.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge flashes at a wider delivery and the ball flies away in the air, but away from the fielder, and crosses the boundary for England's first four.

England come into this ICC Women's T20 World Cup off the back of successive 2-1 series victories over New Zealand and India. Englandʼs victory over India in the third T20I is perhaps their most impressive win across the six matches - England chased 181 with nine balls remaining, courtesy of Alice Capseyʼs 82 (43) and Heather Knightʼs 70* (42).

Amy Jones with a wristy chip into the leg side off Malki Madara's fourth delivery which brings her a couple.

Solid if not exactly spectacular start off the opening over.

    Six runs from it.

I think this is England's strongest opening pair. There's obviously different varieties, I think Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Sophia Dunkley are our most destructive pair but you've got to go with who's in form and where people are best suited.

It's a sightscreen issue. There's something to do with the automated sightscreen which has malfunctioned.

    Manual override required.

Jones will take strike. Malki Madara has the ball in hand.

Nat Sciver-Brunt was trying not to give much away yesterday but England's XI is what we expected after the two warm-up games. Sophia Dunkley is the batter to miss out and Amy Jones has been pushed up to open.

I asked Sciver-Brunt what it is they like about Jones in that role at the top.

"We've had a few combinations so far this summer and I think the balance she gives with a Danni Wyatt-Hodge, her experience and playing different types of bowling that maybe Danni's strengths aren't as high in.

"That gives a really good combination at the top of the order."

Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu: "We decided to bowl first. I'm pretty confident about my bowling rate, as well the condition is unknown with yesterday's rain so we decided to bowl first."

On what to expect from this team: "We are going with young players because we need to have a good team for the future so we give opportunities to the youngsters, so selectors and the board decided to bring a new team and I accept that and we go with this new team."

On the confidence of the team: "We won more games this year but the most important thing we have to execute our right plan at the right time and we know England are a really good team as well. So we need to execute today's plan well, that's the most important thing."
