    Warwicks v Surrey 263-7

Lovely leg-side clip from Sean Abbott to a wayward one from Chris Woakes and he's onto 20* with his third boundary.

Ben Foakes has 93* at the other end, having been there when Surrey were reeling on 65-6 - they are now 263-7.

  2. Postpublished at 17:33 BST 3 April

    Glamorgan 40-4 v Yorks

This is a vital partnership for Glamorgan, with 19 overs left in a truncated day's play.

Colin Ingram finds the boundary off George Hill, who has now been joined in the attack by Logan van Beek, one of two debutants in the Yorkshire XI.

  3. Postpublished at 17:30 BST 3 April

    Durham 326-9 v Kent

The Kent smiles have long since disappeared.

Kemar Roach is having some fun, walloping an overpitched one from Matt Milnes though the covers for four to move to 16*.

Kasey Aldridge has 42* and that third batting point is very much within reach.

Kent have six overs to wait for a new ball, which seemed an unthinkable proposition half an hour ago.

  4. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 17:29 BST 3 April

    Northants v Lancs 292-4

And it is Michael Jones who gets another life.

Ben Sanderson gets one to leave the tall Lancashire middle order man but the edge goes to ground behind the stumps, Lewis McManus getting a (right) glove to it but not hanging on.

He has now been shelled on four and 52.

  5. 50 runs

50 for Jonespublished at 17:24 BST 3 April

    Northants v Lancs 289-4

This has been a stylish half century from Michael Jones who is timing it better and better as the innings progresses.

An elegant high-elbowed finish to a cover drive off Calvin Harrison teed it up and and a dabbed leg side single sends the bat high above his head.

He was dropped on four (off Harrison) and the bowler might rightly feel this punishment is not particularly fair.

  6. dropped catch

    Som 268-5 v Notts

    Harry Everett
    BBC Sport from Taunton

I shall endeavour to not name and shame, but that was a shocker from Notts' third slip.

The easiest of catches at a nice height off the seam bowler Dillon Pennington, in two hands and out.

Of course two balls later Craig Overton smashes Dillon Pennington through cover point for four.

  7. new ball

New ball taken at Edgbastonpublished at 17:23 BST 3 April

    Warwicks v Surrey 254-7

Just a sniff of a run-out chance as Ben Foakes scampers a single from one run to backward point off Rob Yates but he makes his ground before Kai Smith is able to gather the throw, and the second new ball will now be taken...

    ... by Chris Woakes.

16 overs to come in the day. Three wickets remain. Foakes is 89*.

    Strap in.

  8. 100 runs

for Martin Anderssonpublished at 17:21 BST 3 April

    Derbys 329-4 v Worcs

Martin Andersson made three Championship centuries for Derbyshire last season and starts the new campaign with another. Having been 181-4, the home side have dominated the final session so far, with Andersson's partner Luis Reece now on 62 not out.

  9. 100 runs

    Somerset 261-5 v Notts

    Tom AbellImage source, PA Media

Sublime from the former Somerset skipper.

He gets there the first ball he faces on 99* off Liam Patterson-White's spin.

There should not really have been a single there to point, Notts should have squeezed in closer then, but Tom will not care.

He has four first-class centuries against Notts now, including that phenomenal partnership with James Rew at Trent Bridge last July.

    Carlson c Bess b White 2 (Glamorgan 28-4 v Yorks)

We've seen some great catches by Yorkshire already and there's another. Jack White ends his seventh over with figures of 3-15 as Glamorgan skipper Kiran Carlson is superbly taken by Dom Bess.

The first Yorkshire bowling change follows, with George Hill relieving Ben Coad.

  11. Two batting points for Durhampublished at 17:18 BST 3 April

    Durham 312-9 v Kent

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham have managed to get a second batting point on the board - with the last pair at the crease.

They had been 189-3 earlier today but then found themselves 290-9 after tea, with Keith Dudgeon taking four wickets and Glenton Stuurman three.

But Kasey Aldridge has batted nicely on his debut and has 34 runs to his name, whie at the other end, another debutant in Kemar Roach has 10.

If they could push the score to 350 that would certainly be a bonus. But we are set for a late finish here - probably nearer to 7pm - with 25 overs still remianing of day one.

  12. 250 runs

up for Surreypublished at 17:17 BST 3 April

    Warwicks v Surrey 250-7

From 65-6 to 250-7, this has been some recovery, and thanks in such large part to Ben Foakes, though it's Sean Abbott's single off Jordan Thompson which brings up the 250.

Thompson gets one to tail back in late and it's the best kind of leave from Foakes as the ball glides past the timbers.

  13. new ball

New ball taken at Grace Roadpublished at 17:17 BST 3 April

    Leics v Sussex 330-7

Ian Holland takes the new ball for Leicestershire and it's a tidy over to start with. Ben Green returns at the other end and make an immediate impact as he has Jack Carson lbw for five, reducing Sussex to 330-8.

Green has arguably been the pick of the bowlers today and now has 2-37 for his efforts.

  14. Postpublished at 17:16 BST 3 April

    Northants v Lancs 280-4

That is a glorious shot from Michael Jones who drops down on one knee and crushes a cover drive to the rope.

Good comeback from leggie Calvin Harrison who pins him down for the rest of the over with five dots.

  15. A batting bonus point for Somerset!published at 17:14 BST 3 April

    Somerset 257-5 v Notts

Craig Overton bops Liam Patterson-White over the top, just over Olly Stone's head at mid off for four.

They have missed out on so many points in the first innings over the years, their stand in captain has got Somerset over the 250 line.

  16. Postpublished at 17:14 BST 3 April

    Warwicks v Surrey 247-7

Nudge, nudge, nurdle. Surrey are ticking their way towards a batting point.

Ben Foakes then ends a run of four singes from three overs and moves onto 86* with an uppish but nicely-timed drive off Beau Webster for four.

Two overs until the new ball is available, with 16 left in the day after that.

  17. Postpublished at 17:12 BST 3 April

    Northants v Lancs 276-4

Back to back boundaries off Calvin Harrison for Michael Jones who, let it not be forgotten, was dropped on four by the Northants captain Luke Procter.

He is up to 39 now with Matty Hurst having got his knees under the table has 18 at the other end as Lancs close in on a second batting bonus point.

Price lbw Singh 43 (Leics v Sussex 314-7)

    Yadvinder SinghImage source, Shutterstock

We're not sure why Yadvinder Singh is wearing a shirt with 'Chahal' on the back but what's in a name as the Leicestershire debutant takes his first wicket of the day.

He pins Tom Price on the back foot with one which keeps a little low, ending a stand of 52 with Fynn Hudson-Prentice, who has now been joined by Jack Carson.

  19. Postpublished at 17:10 BST 3 April

    Hants v Essex 185-3

A leading edge off the bat of Matt Critchley just goes over the extended arm of Eddie Jack at mid off and which means it passed over him at an altitude of about 11 feet.

Near miss off Liam Dawson's bowling but Hants need to land one soon with this partnership up to 118 now.

  20. 300 runs

up for Durhampublished at 17:08 BST 3 April

    Durham 301-9 v Kent

After all that, Kemar Roach flashes a drive past backward point off Glenton Stuurman and brings up the second batting bonus point with a boundary.

300+ having lost the toss and been put in on day one is not too shabby, though Kent will be keen to make inroads into that lead in the 26 overs remaining in the day... if they can just find one more wicket.
