When it is running your way, you have got to make the most of it England.

A little bit of luck going England's way and they needed it!

    It was good tactics.

That's very much a Ben Stokes dismissal, he seems to have that knack.

England are having the rub of the green.

I don't think we will be here for five days.

    Carey c Crawley b Stokes 20 (Aus 91-6)

It's six! Don't you love it when a plan comes together...

Leg slip in place, Ben Stokes bowls round the wicket to Alex Carey and it looks like a bit of a freebie on leg stump.

But the left-hander flicks it around the corner and straight into the hands of Zak Crawley.

  4. Aus 91-5published at 31 overs

Just one from Gus Atkinson's over and there is a strangled appeal for caught behind down leg to end the over.

Nothing doing, Cameron Green missed that by a distance.

The Barmy Army are in full voice at the MCG. This has been another tough series so they're really enjoying the way this Test has started.

  5. Aus 90-5published at 30 overs

Exactly, Josh. There is something to be said for showing a bit of resilience and determination, even when the series is gone.

No doubt 3-2 is better than 5-0 and given England haven't won a Test in Australia since 2010-11, breaking that winless streak wouldn't hurt.

I understand the frustration of performing like this at 3-0 down, but what are they supposed to do get rolled over and beat 5-0? Good opportunity to look at players who might be back in four years' time.

Good disciplined cricket from England is what's got you to this position - keep going.

  8. Aus 89-5published at 29 overs

Come on, Aggers. Snicko has had almost as challenging a series as England but it's got that one right, surely?

Usman Khawaja didn't exactly look shocked when the decision was reversed.

Anyway, Cameron Green is the new batter for Australia.

The word, 'spike' surprised me as it was a murmur.

    Khawaja c Smith b Atkinson 29 (Aus 89-5)

The smallest of murmurs on Snicko but it's enough!

England were adamant and they are proved right, a thoroughly-deserved second wicket for Gus Atkinson.

Round the wicket to the left-hander, angling in towards off stump and then nipping away to take Usman Khawaja's outside edge.

Barely a feather but it'll do.

England were all up in unison. Which is usually a pretty good sign.

England are convinced that Usman Khawaja has feathered one behind off Gus Atkinson here.

The umpire is unmoved so it's back to Snicko we go...

If England comeback and win these last two Test matches, it will be even more frustrating.

  14. Aus 85-4published at 28 overs

Nip-backer from Ben Stokes and it jumps up at Usman Khawaja to rap the gloves but the ball goes straight to ground.

Four from the over with Alex Carey driving the last delivery through the covers for two. This partnership is now worth 34.

  15. Aus 81-4published at 27 overs

After Alex Carey gets a pair of twos to start the over, first through point then backward square leg, Gus Atkinson gets back into his groove.

An inside edge brings Carey a single before Atkinson beats Usman Khawaja all ends up with a wobble-seam delivery that nips away from the left-hander.

England really do have a shout a bowling out Australia for under 200 here, and getting even a 50-run lead could be big on this pitch by the looks of things!

England bowled better. It was just better line and lengths. It doesn't change Test match bowling really.

If you hit the top of off stump, go for the pads, then you have half a chance of bringing in more dismissals.

  18. Aus 76-4published at 26 overs

Just a couple more singles in the Ben Stokes over as the England skipper gets a bit too straight to the two left-handers.

Gus Atkinson will continue his spell, started before lunch, at the other end.

Ben Stokes looks distinctly unimpressed as his second ball is driven towards mid-off by Usman Khawaja for what should be a dot ball... only for Brydon Carse to dive over the top of it.

A couple of bonus runs get Australia up and running in the session.
