  1. Aus 120-6published at 38.2 overs

Brydon Carse is on to bowl after just a solitary over from Josh Tongue in that spell.

I fancy that means Ben Stokes' spell is over and Tongue is going back to the end from which he took three wickets this morning.

An important Australian strength has always been the ability to fight back when under pressure, don’t count on England to win this Test.

That was a peculiar shot from Michael Neser. It was more of a tailender's shot.

One of those where it could have gone absolutely anywhere.

  4. drinks break

    Aus 120-6published at 38 overs

    Green 14, Neser 15

Ben Stokes finds Michael Neser's edge as the Australia number eight attempts a booming drive but the ball flies over gully for four.

It's the second boundary of the over after Neser squeezed a low full toss through backward point to start the over.

A bit of extra bounce to end the over and Neser is hit on the gloves but the ball drops into the off side and he scampers a single.

Time for drinks after another good hour for England.

  5. Aus 111-6published at 37 overs

It's a change of ends for Josh Tongue from this morning and while he ends with four dot balls, he might well be telling his skipper that he prefers the other.

But given it's Ben Stokes himself bowling from that end - and bowling so well at the moment - he is likely to have to make do for now.

It is only the third time since 1912 that England have had Australia six down in this country before reaching 100 runs.

  7. Aus 111-6published at 36.2 overs

Josh Tongue is back into the attack, replacing Gus Atkinson, but starts with a full toss.

Cameron Green gratefully whips it away for four through the leg side then adds four more with a superb pull shot in front of square.

Hopefully, getting a couple of wins at the end of this series will give some winning experience in Australia for some of the players coming here in four years' time.

  9. Aus 103-6published at 36 overs

Ben Stokes is all over Michael Neser here.

He cuts the right-hander in half with one that jags back to start the over then twice nips the ball back to hit the Australian on the pads.

Neser responds well, punching back down the ground for four as the ball bounces over Stokes' head.

That's 100 up for the Aussies.

Two twos for Cameron Green in the over, twice working Gus Atkinson through the leg side as the England seamer targets his pads.

I know plenty of you will have been hoping for it but, barring something really ridiculous, we're not going to have a repeat of 2010-11 and Australia being skittled for under 100 at the MCG.

England's pacers have effected 12 dismissals in that leg slip region in the Bazball era. No other team has had more than five such dismissals.

Looking at how Ben Stokes has bowled, I can't believe he didn't bowl in the morning session.

It looks like he is going to get a wicket with every ball at the minute.

  13. Aus 95-6published at 34 overs

Another good over from Ben Stokes comes to an end.

Michael Neser does get off the mark, albeit with a slightly unconvincing drive that hangs in the air for a while but finds the gap at extra cover.

Two more to the total as Australia creep closer to three figures.

I'm enjoying see Australia squirm with six down now. Even though we have lost the Ashes, it shows what England are capable of, I'm certainly not going to bed now.

Doesn't take long. That clearly bounced.

No wonder Jamie Smith wasn't claiming it.

Not sure why the third umpire saw that replay then went back to Snicko to check if there was bat involved.

    It didn't matter, it bounced!

Michael Neser nicks behind off Ben Stokes. But did it carry?

Jamie Smith doesn't seem convinced so I wouldn't get too excited England fans.

The umpires are going to check.

I think this is a big Test match for Cameron Green.

He has had a lot of opportunities in different positions, and he has not nailed it down because he has not been consistent enough.

  18. Aus 93-6published at 33 overs

Beauty from Gus Atkinson, whistling the ball millimetres past Cameron Green's bat as the batter prods forward.

Green is off the mark next ball, though, clipping through square leg for two.

  19. Aus 91-6published at 32 overs

    Wicket maiden from Ben Stokes.

The England captain should give himself a pat on the back for the way that wicket came about.

He brought Zak Crawley into leg slip and next ball Alex Carey flicked it straight to him.

Michael Neser is in at eight, he joins Cameron Green. Two batters yet to score for England to attack.
