    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 154-4

Jordan Clark replaces Matt Fisher at the Vauxhall End and his first ball is hooked off the top edge by Jake Lehmann over Ollie Pope to the fine leg boundary.

He's onto 44* after his seventh boundary but survives a strangled appeal after being thumped on the pads and then wafts outside off stump at Clark's third delivery.

Clark's having some problems with the final step of his run-up but carries on as Lehmann dabs into the off-side and the final ball is a dot ball too.

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 150-4

Matt Fisher slings the final ball down leg side with Jake Lehmann showing no interest whatsoever in chasing it.

Reece Topley returns from the Pavilion End and Tom Prest defends the first ball up on his toes.

He shoulders arms to the second and third before defending the fourth and punching the fifth where it's fielded by Dom Sibley at backward point, saving at least a couple of runs.

The final ball takes off and beats Ollie Pope, but Rory Burns saves any extras.

  3. Play resumes at the Ovalpublished at 12:44 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 150-4

We're going to have 25 minutes of play before a 40-minute lunch, when it will no doubt be gloriously hot and sunny.

Jake Lehmann on strike on 40*, Matt Fisher has one ball to bowl, Tom Prest is at the other end on 17*.

We have 78.1 overs left in the day.

The hokey-cokey continues... but we're one step in right now.

  4. Restart at 12:45 BST... really?published at 12:41 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 150-4

The shower has passed and the word is that we could be back out there in five minutes?

    If so that's pretty incredible...

The sun is peeping out again, though the floodlights remain on.

Matt Fisher having a fine day here. In line to play in the Oval test if Gus misses out. He was the spare bowler in the 14 at Lords anyway. Unless Jofra gets back

    Tom, Ilford

Sonny Baker and Matt Fisher were released by England for this game, but Fisher has certainly caught the eye.

BBC Radio Solent's Kevan James thinks he's been trying to repeat his 'miracle ball' of yesterday which cleaned up Toby Albert by nipping back to smash the top of off stump. Certainly one of the deliveries of the season so far.

I don't think it's going to disappear quickly because there is a big dark cloud above us.

But it's raining fairly heavily. So we got 20 minutes of play there, so that was exciting.

We've had the grand total of 28 minutes of play in two sessions this morning.

That will be an early lunch I'm sure now.

    20 minutes we'll never forget.

Hopefully this means an early lunch as it's the only cloud on the radar which is over south London right now.

If they do this efficiently the players can smash down their pie while the ground's crew go about their work and hopefully in 40 minutes or so we might be able to start a proper session of cricket.

  8. 150 runs

up for Hampshirepublished at 12:31 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 146-4

Jake Lehmann produces a glorious back-foot punch through the covers off Matt Fisher for his first boundary of the day to move to 40* and bring up the Hampshire 150.

The Aussie has a big hoik at the next ball but can't connect and Fisher beats the outside edge from the next.

There's a blanket of dark cloud over Kennington which might aid the bowlers here and we've had a light reading... and the rain has returned.

    Here we go again...

Lovely shot through extra cover. Minimum of effort, that just pinged off the bat there.

  10. Postpublished at 12:28 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 146-4

Reece Topley returns from the Pavilion End and Jake Lehmann picks up a quick single from the second ball to bring Tom Prest onto strike.

The third ball takes off a mile allowing Prest to chop a single past gully while Jake Lehmann works another single to third as the floodlights flicker on.

Prest finishes the over with a lovely cover drive to the boundary, superbly-timed again, and the Hampshire run-rate is back above four an over.

    The deficit is 275.

  11. Postpublished at 12:24 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 139-4

Matt Fisher strays onto leg stump for a single to Jake Lehmann and then does so again allowing Tom Prest to pick up the first boundary of the day to deep square.

Prest plays a lovely back-foot drive through cover point for another four two balls later to move into double-figures with sublime timing.

He drives the final ball back to Fisher who makes a fine tumbling stop in his follow through to save at least one run.

  12. 'Never a great sign...'published at 12:23 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 139-4

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

The ground staff - and this is never a great sign - are marching around towards the covers again.

There does appear to be some grey skies coming and the blue skies are disappearing.

  13. Postpublished at 12:20 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 131-4

Tom Prest picks up a single from the first ball of Reece Topley's latest over to move on to 3*.

Jake Lehmann seems to be digging in a lot more than he was in the final hour last night, when he struck five boundaries, but the Australian lefty clips off his pads for a single from the fifth delivery to reach 34*.

Prest plays an identical shot to pick up one from the final ball too.

290 behind. 85 overs left in the day, hopefully. Lunch is set at 13:10 BST.

Frustrating so far. Surrey need 6 wickets today before Hants get another 154. Then there’s a chance to bowl them out tomorrow. Lawrence’s superb 218 has made it possible. Rain do not persist.

    Tom, Ilford

The forecast is definitely better from here on in, Tom, though we might see a shower around lunch and perhaps tomorrow afternoon.

It's hitting above the knee roll. It's hit him on the top of the pad.

I don't blame them for shouting but to actually think you've been on the wrong end of the dismissal... I don't think so.

  16. Postpublished at 12:16 BST 9 June

BIG shout for lbw from Matt Fisher as he beats Tom Prest all ends up to thump him infront.

Too high, it seems, with the right-hander pushing forward, though Fisher isn't a fan of the decision.

A thick outside edge to third allows Prest to pick up a single and brings Jake Lehmann to the crease to defend off a length to the final two balls.

  17. Postpublished at 12:12 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 127-4

Jake Lehmann negotiates the end of the over and Matt Fisher will return at the other end with Tom Prest on strike.

Hampshire are 294 in arrears still, with 272 the target to avoid the follow-on.

  18. 'Double-edged sword'published at 12:11 BST 9 June

    Surrey 421 v Hampshire 127-4

It tests your ability to switch on and off. For the bowlers, Matthew Fisher's 11 overs have been over about four spells.

He gets a break and then comes back fresh. It evens itself out over the season.

It's a double-edged sword really because Hampshire probably want as much time taken out the game as possible because they're not going to win it.

In order to gain a draw, they'll have to bat very low indeed.
