What does being rubbish at ODI cricket really have to do with the Ashes? Still confident we’ll lose 5-0 but I fail to see how the series matters.

Sam Curran with a solid over of left-arm seam. Five dots and a single.

England will take that. Can they contrive a little spell of pressure here?

The Kiwis still only need 96 runs from 156 balls, mind.

We already know the headlines on the 8 January. 'England's Ashes post mortem - where did it all go wrong?' The arrogance of this team to think that this series is any preparation to an Ashes is baffling.

  4. NZ 126-4published at 23 overs

Daryl Mitchell drives straight and hits the stumps at the non-striker's end. This time Jofra Archer cannot quite anything on it.

I think Michael Bracewell's bat was behind the line, anyway.

A couple of balls later and an Archer bouncer goes over the head of Mitchell, Jos Buttler and everyone else and races to the boundary. It's signalled wide as well.

  5. NZ 120-4published at 22 overs

    Behave Michael Bracewell.

A classy way to get off the mark as he times a delivery which is a little full from Brydon Carse and pings it clean as a whistle straight down the ground for four.

    Lovely piece of timing.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 21.1 overs

Latham run out (Carse) 10 (NZ 113-3)

    Twice in the match!

The ball is punched back into the pitch by Daryl Mitchell and rebounds off Brydon Carse's wrists and clatters into the stumps.

Unlike the one from Craig Overton to get rid of Devon Conway earlier, Tom Latham does attempt to get his bat back.

But he's a fraction too slow.

  7. Umpire reviewpublished at 21.1 overs

We haven't got another run out at the non-striker's end off the bowler have we?

Brydon Carse redirects a shot from Daryl Mitchell on to the stumps but has Tom Latham got his bat back in time?

    The umpires fancy a look.

  8. NZ 113-2published at 21 overs

The sun is starting to set at the Sky Stadium in Wellington.

Jofra Archer is round the wicket to the left-handed Tom Latham and beats him outside off stump on a couple of occasions.

The England quick has bowled with good pace -touching 90mph on a few occasions - today.

England have been far more disciplined on their length since the end of the powerplay, hitting a good length with 40% of balls bowled, compared to just 24% when the ball was new in the first 10 overs.

  10. NZ 112-3published at 20 overs

Brydon Carse finds a bit of movement off the pitch, which is keeping Jos Buttler interested behind the stumps.

Tom Latham fishes at a wide one which leaves Carse with his hands on his head wondering what might have been.

I wonder what positive spin will be put on this second rate performance. All this tour has achieved is to ensure we arrive in Australia with most of our Test batters out of form.

    Target 223

A bouncer from Jofra Archer but it's ever so slightly leg side and Daryl Mitchell reacts quickly, spinning on his heels and hooking it for four.

It's the only scoring shot off the over.

    Thanks, Matthew.

It's just occurred to me that today is All Saints' Day.

England have never ever had it so bad...in a pre-Ashes ODI series.

  14. NZ 103-3published at 18 overs

    Mitchell 3, Latham 3

Brydon Carse finds the edge of Tom Latham's bat but the contact is thick enough to keep the ball away from the slip.

Harry Brook is turning back to his trump card. We'll do the same. Here's Timothy Abraham (and Jofra Archer).

  15. NZ 100-3published at 17 overs

    Target 223

England's 50-over team still looks a frontline bowler light but they can hardly drop a batter given their current form.

We all know that NZ will probably fall to 120-5 and then win by 5 wickets. England's inability to bowl teams out has been apparent since last winter but now we can't even post a competitive score to defend either!

  17. NZ 94-3published at 16 overs

Need 129 more runs to win

Brydon Carse gives Tom Latham an early welcome to the crease with a delivery that rises to hit his forearm. That has hurt the New Zealand left-hander who is waving his arm around to relieve the pain.

  18. NZ 92-3published at 15 overs

Jamie Overton has 1-12 at an economy of three runs per over now after his 62-ball 68.

New Zealand are still at 73% on WinViz.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 14.4 overs

    Young c Buttler b Overton 1 (NZ 92-3)

A fifty, a run-out and now a wicket for Jamie Overton! Will Young tries to whack him to New Zealand's south island and gets a towering top edge that is caught by wicketkeeper Jos Buttler.

New Zealand have gone from 78-0 to 92-3.

  20. NZ 90-2published at 14 overs

    Target 223

And Mitchell adds a bit more to that average by driving aerially for four at the end of the over.
