On the plus side, as an Ollie Pope fan with Ashes tickets this series is helping me sleep better at night.

Adil Rashid tosses one up and Mitchell Santner sweeps him for four. Sam Curran gives chase all the way to the fence to no avail, much to Kane Williamson's amusement in the dug out.

Next ball Santner is down on one knee and strikes an almighty six on to the roof of the Sky Stadium - aka the Cake Tin - in Wellington.

    A monster hit.

Only twice has Adil Rashid’s first over come later than this in an ODI:

    • 34th over v WI in Barbados, 2019
    • 38th over v WI in Barbados, 2017
  5. NZ 151-5published at 31 overs

Lots of hustle and bustle from Jamie Overton who has shown plenty of character today. Mitchell Santner and Daryl Mitchell just farm the strike, though.

Daryl Mitchell has a superb record against England’s star wrist spinner, Adil Rashid. In ODI cricket, from 65 balls he has 101 runs against Rashid without being dismissed. Only Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal has more runs against Rashid in ODIs without being dismissed (114 runs, 159 balls).

  7. NZ 148-5published at 30 overs

Almost another run out at the non-striker's end following a deflection by the bowler. Daryl Mitchell is well into his ground after Mitchell Santner's love drive is deflected by Adil Rashid.

Final ball of the over and Mitchell attempts to reverse sweep but cannot make contact and it hits him on the pad. Jos Buttler appeals but nothing doing.

Adil Rashid gets a wicket with his first ball!

Michael Bracewell decides to set his stall out and goes down on one knee to slog sweep the England leg-spinner, but cannot get it up and over and picks out Jacob Bethell in the deep.

    Good question, Paul.

You'll note from our colleagues at CricViz at 06:42 he would usually have bowled by now.

Anyway, he's just loosening up to come into the attack.

Jamie Overton replaces Jofra Archer and clocks Daryl Mitchell just above the hip with a brisk short ball. Ouch.

Sam Curran into his fifth over and he largely keeps the pressure on...until Daryl MItchell hoists his penultimate delivery over the boundary at cow corner for six.

Jofra Archer’s average speed today across his 10 overs was 140.8kph (87.5 mph). That is his highest average speed across an ODI where he has bowled his full allocation.

Pluviophile: England want to revolutionise ODI cricket too. They don't want to play 50 overs - they want it to be 40 overs!

EagleEyeStorm: A big issue is the number of dot balls when England bat. The emphasis put on boundary hitting seems to have the players forgetting the value of rotating the strike.

Joe Robinson: A nice little teaser trailer of what's to come in Australia.

Jofra Archer's final over and he finishes with a maiden as Daryl Mitchell watchfully sees him off.

Archer finishes with figures of 0-53.

Good morning. As I read the comments you choose to post from your audience I feel they as a group need a name. How about the Doom Mongers? Apart from a few bright spots they all seem to complain bitterly about having too much salt in their porridge.

Sam Curran attempts to unsettle Michael Bracewell with a short ball, but the Kiwi left-hander calmly pulls it for four.

A nip-backer from Curran next ball hits Bracewell on the pad and there's an appeal. Harry Brook is not interested in a review, though, indicating he thought height was an issue.

No Adil Rashid yet for England, as they continue with this pace barrage. On the 151 occasions Adil Rashid has bowled in ODI cricket, only on nine occasions has his first over come after the halfway point of the innings.

  20. NZ 130-4published at 25 overs

Jofra Archer set to bowl through his full allocation here.

His ninth over is milked for three singles by Michael Bracewell and Daryl Mitchell. These two are in no hurry with 25 overs to play with.
