Virat Kohli looks to be in the mood.

He comes down the track to Gus Atkinson's first delivery and whips the seamer away off one leg to the mid-wicket ropes - a one-bounce four.

He then adds an another four with a classic drive through the covers.

We've reached the end of the powerplay - back go the fielders, here comes Adil Rashid.

Gavin @13.24 - couldn't agree more. Players like Craig Overton can't get in the team (and I'm not just focusing upon last night, he's had a great season) and players like Mahmood seemingly can't get out of the team unless injured.

    Amin, Glasgow

Feel like that’s harsh on Mahmood, who doesn’t have a terrible record in white ball for England.

This is only the seventh time Shubman Gill has been dismissed inside the powerplay in 19 innings as an ODI opener since the last World Cup.

Super start from Atkinson in his 12th ODI. He's previously taken 13 wickets, making his debut on this ground in September 2023 against New Zealand.

  5. Ind 50-1published at 9 overs

A first four for Virat Kohli, timing Jofra Archer nicely and reaching the ropes at mid-on.

A single from the next ball brings up India's 50 - Harry Brook hits the stumps with a throw from the covers, but Rohit Sharma is well in his crease by that point.

I like Atkinson in ODIs. He knows how to bowl a consistent line and length at decent pace and that’s all you really need to build pressure and take wickets. I wish I could say the same for Saqib Mahmood.

It was timed well by Shubman Gill but, so far this over it's been back of the length, back of the length, then it was a bit fuller. It was his head positioning that got him in the end.

    Great start by Gus Atkinson.

  9. Ind 44-1published at 8 overs

New batter Virat Kohli sees out the rest of the over without scoring - that's a wicket maiden for Gus Atkinson.

What a good catch that is from Ben Duckett. It went so quickly, but straight to the hands.

This is a good start from Gus Atkinson, he's finding the right length.

Shubman Gill can't believe he's done that!

Gus Atkinson has a wicket with his fourth ball of the day as India's skipper drives a half-volley powerfully but straight to Ben Duckett at cover.

Gill shouts in frustration as he turns to walk off.

Good start from India, they haven't really taken many risks, just seizing on the bad balls.

Is Jofra Archer the most dropped off bowler ever? Every game his chances seem to go begging. He’d be even scarier with the stats if his chances were held.

  15. Ind 44-0published at 7 overs

A quieter over for England, just two runs coming Jofra Archer's fourth effort.

The seamer's final ball is pulled by Rohit Sharma, but he's through the shot early and top-edges to point, where the ball lands safely.

    Gill 30, Rohit 9

Four fours in a row now for Shubman Gill - having finished the last over with a couple he sends two more shots over the ropes after returning to the strike.

Saqib Mahmood twice drifts onto the legs of the India captain and is clipped fine and then sent away through mid-wicket.

Gill is denied a fifth consecutive boundary when another shot to mid-wicket is cut-off - he runs three instead.

Rohit Sharma has been dropped nine times in ODI cricket since the start of the last World Cup, the most for any Indian batter (next highest - Gill, dropped six times).

There is a length here that if you find it, it's perfect. England are just searching for that length.

England haven't bowled badly, it just feels like there might be a few runs in this pitch.
