Ecclestone is finding more turn (2.7° on average) this year compared to any other year of her career. As a consequence her ODI bowling average of 15 this year is among the best of any of her career.

After seven nervy dots, Kavisha Dilhari drives Linsey Smith to pick up a single. She's up and running.

  3. SL 95-2published at 21 overs

    Target 254

A wicket maiden for Sophie Ecclestone and with Kavisha Dilhari beaten a couple of times, she's unlucky not to have two wickets to her name.

Perera's wicket is crucial for England, as you felt the partnership was really moving along. You felt that she wanted to get going. I actually think that the shot was on, but the only issue was that she didn't give herself enough room to elevate the shot.

    A crucial wicket!

Hasini Perera slogs Sophie Ecclestone straight to Alice Capsey at mid-on. Sri Lanka's second-wicket partnership, worth 58 (66), is broken.

    Kavisha Dilhari comes in.

England’s fielding remains average, and the bowlers have looked toothless. Everything is on Ecclestone, I suspect. Otherwise, this should be a cake walk for Sri Lanka.

  7. SL 95-1published at 20 overs

    Target 254

Linsey Smith gets excited about a possible lbw against Hasini Perera. The umpire doesn't blink.

Two balls later, she's dancing down to the spinner and is only denied a boundary by a good stop from Alice Capsey.

20 overs in and Sri Lanka need 159 runs to win.

  8. SL 91-1published at 19 overs

    Target 254

Fielding errors are becoming increasingly frequent. The camera pans to England head coach Charlotte Edwards and she's not looking too happy.

Two singles from Sophie Ecclestone's first over.

Just having a look at the Sri Lankan dugout, there are a lot of players up and about, and they feel very confident at the moment.

Sri Lanka will win this at a canter, very poor bowling from England, giving away too many loose boundaries.

Much better running. Tammy Beaumont misfields and this time Sri Lanka's batters do dash through for two. Nothing reckless about that. More please.

And then the over gets away from England. Harshitha Samarawickrama sweeps Charlie Dean for four, the spinner bowls a wide, and Emma Lamb - undone by the bounce - lets the ball through for another four. A messy couple of deliveries.

    13 runs off the over.

    Here comes Sophie Ecclestone.

  12. SL 76-1published at 17 overs

    Target 254

Poor running from Sri Lanka. Hasini Perera sweeps hard and while Tammy Beaumont manages to cut it off in the deep to save the boundary, they really should have come back for a second run.

  13. SL 74-1published at 16 overs

    Target 254

Another boundary. This time a big edge from Harshitha Samarawickrama off Charlie Dean.

Sri Lanka are holding the required rate steady. It's hovering around 5.2 runs an over.

When Athapaththu went off, it was a real blow for Sri Lanka. Everyone wants to see her out there, and it is something that England could be thinking in the back of their minds - that she is still to come and with possibly only 20 overs left at that point, the handbrakes would very certainly be off then.

  15. Postpublished at 15:45 BST 11 October 2025

We have an update on Chamari Athapaththu.

The Sri Lanka skipper was taken off on a stretcher in the sixth over on seven but she is likely to come back. Possibly a calf injury, possibly a bad case of cramp.

Alice Capsey is having a brilliant year with the ball in ODIs. Her nine wickets this year have come at an average of just 16. Her previous best year saw a bowling average of 34.

  18. SL 62-1published at 14 overs

    Target 254

Five wides! David (@15.27), are you still keeping score? Charlie Dean sends a full delivery down the leg side and it beats everyone and everything.

Hasini Perera finishes the over with a boundary off the bat, sweeping away.

  19. SL 51-1published at 13 overs

    Target 254

    Target 254

Harshitha Samarawickrama gets off the mark with a single and profits from a misfield later in the over to sneak through for two.

Five runs in total off Charlie Dean's second over.
