Please send your suggestions for what system to introduce to prevent this net run-rate protection to the ICC. Sri Lanka block out a maiden to only send the required run-rate shooting higher.

England are very reliant on two or three players; the rest seem to be passengers. This team has not improved from the ashes debacle, but not unexpected, seeing as it is mostly the same players. If the Ashes were played tomorrow, I would bet on the exact same result.

Nat Sciver-Brunt is having a fine day out...

  4. SL 159-9published at 41 overs

    Target 254

It appears these final two batters are going to try and drag it out as long as they can rather than slogging. Udeshika Prabodhani leaves her second delivery outside off stump.

Charlie Dean, especially after conceding over six runs an over, must be thinking that she can relax now after that wicket. I don't think she's bowled badly, but I don't think she's bowled that well.

  6. wicket

    Dasanayaka b Dean 4 (SL 157-9)

Two in two. Charlie Dean gets her second wicket on an expensive day as Sugandika Dasanayaka is bowled.

England need one more for victory.

  7. wicket

    Nilakshi c Knight b Capsey 23 (SL 157-8)

    Sri Lanka's last batter goes.

Alice Capsey has been bowling slow, really slow, and Nilakshi de Silva chips a catch off a leading edge. Heather Knight snaffles the easiest of catches.

    England are closing in.

England’s catching has been superb in this tournament so far, taking 14 catches with just one chance spilled.

  9. SL 152-7published at 39 overs

Need 102 runs from 66 balls

Nilakshi de Silva continues to play, albeit below the rate required for victory.

How do World Cups solve negative batting in these situations when teams protect their net run-rate?

Vihanga was itching. She dropped her back leg the previous ball and showed us a more expansive drive. Then, off the front foot, she tugged it to the on side. It probably went a metre high but Charlie Dean tracked it nicely.

  11. SL 146-7published at 38 overs

    Target 254

There's still plenty of room for improvement with the bat but this is turning into a pretty good day for England. Upset avoided.

  12. wicket

    Vihanga c Dean b Sciver-Brunt 3 (SL 145-7)

Good catch. Charlie Dean, lurking at short-ish mid-wicket dives to her right to take an aerial clip on the dive. It gives Nat Sciver-Brunt a second wicket as she takes a stronger hold of the player of the match award ahead of Sophie Ecclestone.

  13. SL 143-6published at 37 overs

    Target 254

Sophie Ecclestone's supreme spell is done.

Sri Lanka were 91-1 when she came on. She took a wicket with her first ball and finishes with 4-17 from 10 overs.

  14. SL 142-6published at 36 overs

Need 112 more runs to win

Nilakshika Silva's batting average is a respectable 28.29. In contrast, Dewmi Vihanga averages eight. It's an almighty ask from here. Nat Sciver-Brunt gives very little away.

  15. SL 139-6published at 35 overs

    Target 254

Bowling her eighth over on the spin, Sophie Ecclestone fails to nab her fifth wicket. There's turn and bounce, almost too much for the left-arm spinner.

  16. SL 136-6published at 34 overs

Need 118 runs from 96 balls

England will be top of the standings if/when they win this match with all of the teams having played three of seven matches.

One thing Nat Sciver-Brunt does really well is that she cuts the ball really well, and it seemed like it moved in very sharply to Sanjeewani.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 33.3 overs

    Sanjeewani lbw b Sciver-Brunt 10 (SL 134-6)

Sciver-Brunt can do no wrong. It was hitting the top of leg stump - three reds, in fact, with Sanjeewani batting so deep in her crease.

    Sri Lanka lose their sixth.

  19. Sri Lanka reviewpublished at 33.3 overs

Given lbw! Nat Sciver-Brunt has a wicket to follow her century.

It's an lbw shout. That looked a little high. Sri Lanka review.

  20. SL 132-5published at 33 overs

    Target 254

    What have you done...

Sophie Ecclestone, for the first time today, has conceded a boundary and it followed two singles too. Perhaps a little short and Anushka Sanjeewani rocks back to cut.

The over costs seven runs - more than her previous six combined.
