This Test is incredible. OK, perhaps not one for purists or those wanting great technical play, but if England can bowl normally to the tail and not give them the usual 100 extra runs, we're actually in with a chance!

Music to Harry Brook's ears, Soham.

Three singles off Brydon Carse's over as Australia's lead moves above 160.

This partnership is now worth 31.

Defensive shots in this Test match have fetched 20 runs off 146 balls for 11 dismissals.

Attacking shots have returned 202 runs off 135 balls for nine dismissals.

Interestingly, a wicket has fallen every 13 defensive shots on average, while for attacking shots, it is 15.

Of the 804 Tests in the database with more than 100 defensive shots, this Test has the worst dismissal rate for defensive shots (one every 13 shots on average).

That lead is looking quite happy.

Australia are just trying to squirt their way to some decent total.

    Slips too deep again.

Just short of the slips again!

Steve Smith edges Brydon Carse, with Harry Brook collecting the ball on the dive at second slip after it dropped just in front of him.

Stephan Shemilt, our man in the ground, said England's cordon wasn't close enough in the morning session - is he of the same opinion here?

I'd say Chris at 01:55 is being a bit generous. For all of England's efforts this morning, the Aussies are still 90% favourites in my view. They only need another 40-50 runs to completely bat England out of the game.

Josh Tongue sends down a maiden to Cameron Green.

His second of the day - England have bowled six in total in this innings.

A bit desperate that review. It was missing a fourth stump!

That's heading down leg, Steve Smith survives and England lose their review.

He then defends the final ball of the over.

Prior to the review, a Brydon Carse delivery slipped down the leg side and went for four byes.

    Time for an lbw review!

Not the loudest appeal from Brydon Carse after he strikes Steve Smith on the pad, but Jamie Smith is keen.

England have three reviews to use and Ben Stokes decides to have a pop.

Steve Smith has played it alright, he gets behind it, and he doesn't look to go nibbling outside the off stump.

Cameron Green is the perfect chap to come in and play a counter-attacking knock.

England go for big overs, don't they? They go for 11 and 14. You don't see Scott Boland going for 14 an over.

    Another edge past the cordon!

England saw several chances scud wide of the slips in the morning session, and Josh Tongue has Cameron Green send a thick nick past the second of two men in there.

The all-rounder follows that up with another four from the next ball, turning Tongue's delivery down to fine leg, before Jacob Bethell's somewhat needless shy at the stumps brings a rebound second run for Green.

That's 12 off the over, after it started with a Steve Smith single and a Tongue no-ball that brought up Australia's hundred.

Right, time to get going again.

Josh Tongue will resume for England, bowling to Steve Smith.

The Australia number four is on 16 from 19 deliveries, with Cameron Green on six from seven at the other end.

In the MCG, nobody is confident of England chasing this down. At the moment the win chances for both teams I’d say are: 70% Australia, 30% England.
