The crowd feels keen to get going but England have never really been able to get them involved.

  3. Eng 137-4published at 19 overs

Tight from Annabel Sutherland, conceding just six runs off the penultimate over of the innings.

    Can England get 150?

Oh, you'd back Beth Mooney to nail that run out nine times out of 10. The wicketkeeper chases Nat Sciver-Brunt down the wicket, picks up the ball, turns to throw down the stumps with Freya Kemp scrambling... and sends the ball about a foot over the bails.

Kemp smacks the next delivery for four. Typical.

    Two overs to go.

  7. 50 runs

    50 for Sciver-Bruntpublished at 17.1 overs

Nat Sciver-Brunt brings up her half-century with a single. The England skipper has taken 45 balls to get there, anchoring her side's innings.

Well, that was some shot from Nat Sciver-Brunt. She turned 180 and looked like she was going to paddle a low full toss. Instead, the ball goes over third for four.

Eight off the over. Kim Garth finishes with 1-20 from her four overs, including the wicket of Heather Knight.

  9. Eng 114-4published at 16 overs

Another positive over for England. Nine from it, including a walloped four through the covers from Nat Sciver-Brunt.

The skipper and Freya Kemp have added 21 runs in two overs since drinks. But they need to up the ante even more.

Taking the pace off for seam bowlers to Kemp is risky.

The left-hander strikes at 260 against slower balls in 2026, compared to just 110 against pace on deliveries.

Not content with being the best batting, bowling and fielding side in the world, the Aussies are also the most enthusiastic, disciplined and positive team in the world. I’m struggling to see a weakness.

100 up for England as Freya Kemp whips through mid-wicket and beats a diving fielder on the boundary.

Annabel Sutherland, ducking in her follow through, throws her hands at one as Kemp goes down the ground but it's not a chance. Kemp and Nat Sciver-Brunt trade singles to finish the 15th.

    Kemp has 22 off 13.

You feel like there hasn't been a real flow to England's innings and there is a couple of reasons for that.

Firstly, the surface isn't as quick and bouncy as what we would have loved to have had here.

Secondly, Australia have been excellent. Kim Garth, you could probably put a handkerchief down with the amount of accuracy she's had.

Well, that's exactly the kind of return from drinks that England would've been after!

Freya Kemp hits Annabel Sutherland for four with a wristy pull.

Australia are so good at squeezing the game. England need to find some moments at magic. I’ve got three hours at Rome airport so hoping NSB can find a partner to build something competitive.

Another close call! Nat Sciver-Brunt is keen for a second run, sprinting through her single, but Freya Kemp is a bit more cavalier. They're saved by a fumble from Nicola Carey in the deep - a clean pick up and throw and that would have been the end of this partnership.

Eight runs off Ash Gardner's over. England are having to run hard to keep the scoreboard moving.

This match looks like a step too far for this England team... Australia are on a different (cricketing) planet than everyone else!

That's more like it from Freya Kemp, driving Lucy Hamilton up through mid-off for four!

There's some good running - coming back for a second as an edge goes under a fielder inside the ring - and some grim running, Freya Kemp coming way down for a single before being ordered back to the non-striker's.

Sciver-Brunt is lucky that her sweep off the back of her bat is just out of reach of a somersaulting Beth Mooney.

We either need some major fireworks here from Kemp and Sciver-Brunt, or a bowling performance like we’ve never seen before - but definitely have it in us.
