Have your say on the Men's T20 World Cup

  1. WI 33-0published at 6 overs

The final over of the powerplay is bowled by Mark Watt.

The left-arm spinner mixes up his bowling wonderfully well to push West Indies onto the backfoot and gives away just two runs.

Very impressive from Watt and Scotland in general so far!

Scotland's fielding has been on it today. For many of them, they have been in the indoor centre and snow in Scotland this winter.

You always think when teams are a bit under cooked, the fielding can be sloppy but they've been on the money.

  3. WI 31-0published at 5 overs

Another bowling change for Scotland - this time Richie Berrington turning Safyaan Sharif's pace.

He begins with three dot balls and only concedes four off his first over.

With one more over left in the powerplay, a hint of pressure growing on the West Indies batters perhaps?

  4. WI 27-0published at 4 overs

First signs of real aggression from West Indies in this over.

Brandon King goes after Brad Currie's first ball and it's in the air but drops just short of the fielder at deep backward point.

The opener then gets it right three balls later as an edge runs away for four.

It's a fantastic opportunity for Scotland. The players have been very forthcoming in saying how lucky they are to have this opportunity and that their thoughts are with the Bangladesh players. It's been a really good start for Scotland.

  6. WI 20-0published at 3 overs

Early spin for Scotland as Mark Watt comes on for the third over.

He starts decently but Shai Hope adjusts, rocking back and cutting the fourth ball away for four.

  7. WI 14-0published at 2 overs

Brad Currie attacks for Scotland from the other end and West Indies keep the scoreboard ticking early.

Shai Hope finds his first boundary of the day, opening the face of the bat to gently guide the penultimate delivery through deep third for a four.

Brandon McMullen really pulled back that first over. I was interested to see him with the new ball, he was getting some really nice away shape. They will have done their homework, I'm not sure on the field setting but it might be a stroke of genius.

There's something in the pitch that will please the Scottish spinners.

  9. WI 7-0published at 1 over

Brandon McMullen comes back strongly after giving away easy runs off his first ball.

Just three more runs from the over, and Brandon King nearly gifts his wicket away off the final delivery. He miscues his shot and it hung in the air for a moment only to drop safely.

What a start from the West Indies.

First ball from Brandon McMullen is an inviting one and Brandon King leans into it beautifully, driving through extra cover for four.

The West Indies openers Brandon King and Shai Hope take their guard.

And Brandon McMullen is at the top of his mark for the first ball, which is moments away.

"We have to focus on today and we need to get this campaign off to a good start."

"It's a fantastic opportunity for us to be. Obviously, it's a quick turnaround but everyone is excited to be here. There's a really positive feel around the group. We were scheduled to have fitness testing today but to be here at Eden Gardens is great.

"There is a lot of experience in this team. We have been here before. We have also got some young players coming into this squad which is fantastic."

It is a big day for Scotland, but it’s an opportunity they probably didn't expect to have.

Remember, they are the late arrivals to this party.

The Scots, ranked 14th in the world, were called up by the International Cricket Council (ICC) by virtue of being the highest-ranked team not already at the tournament after Bangladesh decided to boycott the T20 World Cup.

And now that they are here, they will be desperate to prove they belong on the big stage.
