The 50 partnership between Blundell and Mitchell has been reached in 9.2 overs.

  3. NZ 158-4published at 45 overs

Here is Jofra Archer, for the first time in this session.

His first delivery is struck sweetly by Tom Blundell past point, bringing up New Zealand's 150.

A further four comes from leg byes off the New Zealand wicketkeeper, and that's the fifty partnership too.

This might be a changover over from Harry Brook, so Fisher can swap ends for Archer to return.

That was a one day yahoo. You'll be disappointed with that stroke if you're England. When you're facing part timers, a hit like that scares them.

  6. NZ 149-4published at 44 overs

Matthew Henry's leading question at 14:24 bears fruit - here is Harry Brook... England's frontline slower bowler?

    He replaces Sonny Baker.

Daryl Mitchell, who now seems to have his eye in a bit, sends Brook flying in the air over the covers, with the ball landing a little inside the boundary and then running to the rope.

This pitch is a really good pitch for batting. It's the kind of pitch where is someone really wants to go, they could go very quickly.

England have bowled well though, a lot of pace out there.

  8. NZ 145-4published at 43 overs

Another powerful four for Daryl Mitchell, thumping Matthew Fisher's first ball through the off side.

As of the end of the over, this partnership is worth 38.

    Russell, Minchinhampton

Professions XI - working hard in the office are Joe Clarke and Lauren Filer.

    Rachel, Leeds

Can we add Amy Hunter, Charlie Dean and Linsey Smith to the professions XI?

    Jim, Haworth

  10. NZ 140-4published at 42 overs

    Oh, hello.

Daryl Mitchell has looked pretty scratchy thus far, but he absolutely flays Sonny Baker's wide-ish delivery through the covers for four.

Tom Blundell gets in on the action off the over's final ball, offering a textbook drive through the same area to pick up his first boundary.

New Zealand have just played. There's been no effort to get after the inexperienced bowlers.

  12. NZ 127-4published at 41 overs

Daryl Mitchell's turn to take two, sending Matthew Fisher out to mid-wicket.

We've got just over half an hour until tea, with the structure of the day adjusted after we started half an hour late.

Have we had Bishop David Sheppard yet? The only person to ever play Test cricket whilst being an ordained priest! Nominative determinism on many levels!

Re: Professions XI. Can't forget the Smith brothers - especially given 'The Judge' and the recent memorial, much missed!

    Jim, Portsmouth

Surely Jordan Cox is the fourth 'professional' in this team - steering the England cricket ship to success.

    Alex, Birmingham

  14. NZ 124-4published at 40 overs

Another two for Tom Blundell, sending Sonny Baker square.

The young seamer's final delivery has some good carry and passes the bat of the New Zealand wicketkeeper.

Meanwhile here's how Baker dismissed Rachin Ravindra.

England have bowled well on a surface that hasn't really given them anything.

    Jeremy Coney
Former New Zealand captain on BBC Test Match Special

New Zealand have basically just played a defensive game, waiting to get into the match. It's cost them a few wickets. They have had some starts but not been able to carry on with any conviction at all.

It's been a tidy effort for the England bowlers.

  17. NZ 122-4published at 39 overs

Four runs off the remaining four balls of the over, with Tom Blundell taking a two in the leg side.

That was an odd one. It was angling down but did straighten up a bit. Close to being umpire's call.

I think the bowler had just felt it got straight enough.

  20. Not outpublished at 38.2 overs

    NZ 118-4

    Ooooh, no.

The ball tracking has it sliding just past the leg stump.

    England lose a review.
