A chastening first over for Will Jacks, who batted brilliantly for England earlier.

  5. drinks break

Italy 47-3 at drinkspublished at 6 overs

Spin for the first time for England as Will Jacks enters the fray but Ben Manenti is confidently off the mark with back-to-back fours.

The Italian gives it the heave ho to the leg side for the first then slashes over short third.

Manenti follows it up with another four off the final ball of the over, with a waspish cut behind square.

Justin Mosca looks in good touch here.

Once again the Azzurri opener uses Jofra Archer's pace to thread another boundary through backward point.

    Archer curses under his breath.

Maybe the pitch is actually a bit more challenging than everyone thought. Hard to believe people still need to hear this, but don't judge a track or a total till both teams have batted.

  11. Ita 26-3published at 4.3 overs

Justin Mosca has taken a shine to Jofra Archer's pace.

Mosca powerfully drives the England quick through the covers for four then a couple of balls later whips him through mid-wicket for the same outcome.

A brilliant catch by Jos Buttler.

The batter, Harry Manenti, looking to play the ramp shot. He gets a little glove on it and Buttler has to readjust his feet and he dives high and left.

The ball just settles in his mitt there.

  13. wicket

    Manenti c Buttler b Overton 12 (Ita 22-3)

Jamie Overton responds with four dot balls before the pressure tells on Harry Manenti.

The Italy batter positions himself to ramp Overton over the top but the England all-rounder follows him and Manenti is unable to get enough on it.

Jos Buttler dives to his left to take a superb catch with his right hand.

A really nice shot from Harry Manenti. Jamie Overton is looking to bowl as quickly as he can, but the length is wrong, and it is chest high.

  15. Ita 22-2published at 3.1 overs

More short stuff from Jame Overton but Harry Manenti is equal to it, whipping the England seamer square for four.

Three boundaries in a row for Italy.

A nice push for that first four. Justin Mosca moves his feet towards the ball, and he times it nicely.

  18. Ita 18-2published at 3 overs

Justin Mosca finishes the third over with a couple of boundaries as he intelligently uses Jofra Archer's pace.

The first is a tidy punch through the covers for four off before Mosca works one on his legs fine for another.

    Fast outfield at Eden Gardens.

  19. Ita 9-2published at 2 overs

Not the ideal start for Italy.

Hoping the BBC send me to Milan tomorrow so I can sit with some pastries, coffee and review this performance with the newspapers.

    Gazzetta Cricket Italia, anyone?

Harry Manenti tried to keep it down, but it took a thick top edge. Phil Salt was running around from deep backward square, and he tried to do the jumping, throwing back in kind of catch.
