Four days of sun on this pitch and Nathan Lyon is going to run through England easily. Anything over 270 here and we're toast.

There is a bit of turn and bounce. Nathan Lyon is back in for this Test match and he will be eagerly watching that.

  3. Tea - Aus 194-5published at 50 overs

    And that's the session.

With his tail up, Ben Stokes inserts himself at leg slip to Will Jacks, while Ollie Pope goes in at short leg.

No sign of a wicket though, with five runs coming off the over as we head into tea.

The Aussies are batting like England today. Giving their wickets away.

The arrival of a right-hander might actually help Will Jacks. In first-class cricket he averages 63 against left-handers, but 37 against RHB.

Ooooh, that almost dropped onto the stumps.

Facing his fifth delivery and not having scored, Josh Inglis drops a Ben Stokes ball close to his wicket.

He gets off the mark from the following delivery, getting three through mid-wicket.

Well, I said we hadn't had a maiden in this session, and we get a wicket maiden from Will Jacks straight away.

New batter Josh Inglis plays out the rest of spinner's over without scoring.

England will be happy with them five wickets down. This pitch looks like it is a very good pitch, that one was outside leg stump and Usman Khawaja didn't try to keep it down.

England have to make the most of this now.

Another unnecessary dismissal from Australia's perspective.

    Khawaja c Tongue b Jacks 82 (Aus 185-5)

Oh, where did that come from?

There'll be no century for Usman Khawaja on his return to the side, while Will Jacks has his first wicket of the day.

The Australia number four had looked exceedingly comfortable, but, having seen his bat beaten by Jacks' opening delivery, he stretched for a slog sweep and lifted the ball to Josh Tongue at deep square leg.

The England fielder came in from the boundary and took the ball on his knees - it's a poor dismissal, one of several today.

Is it time for some Joe Root off-spin? These Aussie batsmen are milking Jacks far too easily.

It has been obvious that England have been too short again. Four maidens so far today that on a first day pitch is not enough and there have been too many bad balls.

  14. Aus 185-4published at 47 overs

Usman Khawaja works Ben Stokes' final ball off his legs and takes a single to move to 82.

We've yet to see a maiden in this session.

It will be interesting to see Bazball hitting through the line. This pitch tomorrow will quicken up and maybe it will suit England's style of play.

Great for England to get those wickets, but what pressure are Australia under here? Potentially being all out for 250 against a team that hasn’t put a score up all series. Nothing to stop Aussie scoring 400 odd from here and it’s game over.

It's been a funny old day, but the pitch itself has shown that it has no real demons. England have not bowled consistently in the right area to build pressure, and they really need another wicket now.

  19. Aus 180-4published at 45 overs

Usman Khawaja cuts Ben Stokes away through point - that's his 10th four and takes him into the 80s.

The England captain then scuffs Khawaja's pads sending a delivery down leg - another appeal from Stokes followed by no review.

Again, that's the right decision with ball tracking confirming the delivery was missing the stumps.
