Dan Lawrence is in the mood. He won't want tea to arrive at the end of this over.

He's heaved Delano Potgieter off his off-stump and to the deep mid-wicket fence for four. He's practically toying with the South African now.

A single takes him to 148* and brings Ollie Pope back onto strike.

Pope nudges into the off-side to bring up the 200 partnership from 190 balls.

  3. Postpublished at 16:09 BST 7 June

    Surrey 292-3 v Hampshire

Surrey milk three singles off Tom Prest before Dan Lawrence sweeps beautifully to deep backward square for another four.

He then whips out the reverse to sweep fine past the slip and he has 143* and retains strike after a single into the covers to end the over.

    Surrey 281-3 v Hampshire

Full and wide from Delano Potgieter at the start of his new over and Ollie Pope tucks in with a crack through the covers for four to move to 64*.

A single brings Dan Lawrence back onto strike on 129* - now at worse than a run a ball, tut tut.

He puts that right with a glorious straight drive back past the bowler for four... 133* from 131 now.

Two overs until tea, Hampshire are two behind on the over rate and will need to make amends in the evening session.

  5. Postpublished at 16:02 BST 7 June

    Surrey 271-3 v Hampshire

Four off the Tom Prest over, not bad seeing as how there's nothing in the pitch for the spinners, according to BBC Radio Solent commentator Kevan James.

  6. Postpublished at 15:59 BST 7 June

    Surrey 267-3 v Hampshire

A big swing from Dan Lawrence off Delano Potgieter finds the edge and the ball races through the vacant slips to the rope at third.

When your luck's not in, it's not in, eh Hampshire fans.

He has 20 fours but several of them have been rather streaky.

169 unbroken for this fourth wicket from 28 overs.

Part-time offy Tom Prest is coming on at the other end.

Never mind Pope, Lawrence is ahead of him in my book. A more talented batter and also a more than useful option with the ball. He may have to bide his time before another look at Test match cricket, but he should be given another opportunity before Pope.

    Richard, Singapore

Tony may have been a bit over the top with the Lawrence comment (15:33) but good to see England releasing players for this match so we can have more players with form under their belts for such squad considerations.

    Joshua, Kidderminster

Matt Fisher, along with Sonny Baker, can take part in this match after being released by England.

    Surrey 261-3 v Hampshire

A back-foot clip to deep mid-on off spinner Felix Organ brings Dan Lawrence a single to move to 122 before Ollie Pope plays a similar shot to reach 58*.

Five overs until tea... 37 remain in the day.

  9. Postpublished at 15:51 BST 7 June

    Surrey 253-3 v Hampshire

Delano Potgieter is back into the attack, replacing Kyle Abbott, after a period to clear his head after he was penalised five runs for an aggressive shy at the stumps which Dan Lawrence was occupying.

Lawrence had picked up a couple of boundaries and reached 50 in the moments before.

He picks up a single off the South African's second delivery before Ollie Pope gets away with a cut shot which narrowly avoids the top edge.

Pope drives to cover to move to 57* before Lawrence creams the next ball, outside off stump, through mid-wicket nonchalantly to reach 120* from 115 balls.

A single will keep him on strike for the next over too.

  10. Postpublished at 15:43 BST 7 June

    Surrey 251-3 v Hampshire

Big appeal from Kyle Abbott as he gets one to spit up at Ollie Pope and clip the pad as he offers no shot.

Looks to be a touch high and Pope survives with an elevated heartrate.

Abbott looks to the floor as he trudges back to his mark.

A day which promised so much on a green track under cloudy skies is turning into a nightmare.

Slog sweep from Ollie Pope off Felix Organ to the deep backward square boundary brings up the first batting point and also the 150 partnership from 23 overs.

Textbook footwork from Dan Lawrence to launch Felix Organ over the rope at long-off for his third six.

Glorious straight drive from Ollie Pope off Kyle Abbott brings up his ninth four and a 64-ball half-century.

He's slowed down a touch in support of Dan Lawrence but this stand is closing in on 150 in short order and has changed the complexion of the game entirely.

Dan Lawrence is in sublime form.

He brings up his century from 99 balls with his 18th four to go along with two sixes.

His 23rd First Class century and his fourth of the season. Every half-century has been converted.

    Brilliant player in brilliant form.

Is the door open? On this form, it should be...

  18. Postpublished at 15:21 BST 7 June

    Surrey 224-3 v Hampshire

Glorious cover drive from Ollie Pope off James Fuller takes him to 47*.

Hampshire are leaking runs, and are seemingly toiling in both bowling and the field as the outfield quickens up a tad.

Pope has passed 9,000 first class runs and 5,000 runs for Surrey along the way this afternoon.

  19. Postpublished at 15:16 BST 7 June

Ollie Pope produces a lovely late cut to the rope of Felix Organ and then a couple of balls later Dan Lawrence sweeps from well outside off stump to the deep square leg boundary to move into the 90s.

He has 94*, the same he managed from 47 balls on Friday, this time in a more leisurely 89.

  20. Postpublished at 15:13 BST 7 June
